I'm no psycho tree-hugger, just a sportsman and balanced conservationist, but as I grow older myself and gain more wisdom and appreciation for TIME, whenever I see a majestic old growth tree like that felled my heart winces and breaks... What withstood eons of challenges is gone forever in mere hours for a very short term use or profit. Yes trees are "renewable" but at 100-500-1,000+yrs old they should be left untouched. Have areas designated as 'tree farms' where faster growing trees can be harvested, replanted and rotated... Leave the OLD GROWTH for our future children to be in awe of!
I was thinking it, and you said it!
@@petemaravich2245 my thoughts EXACTLY! What is the value of felling a treee that has lived through generations. Makes no sense at all.
I remember watching this old cartoon as a kid ( I think it was Looney tunes) that sums it up. It was a scene where this lumberyard was processing hundreds of gigantic tree trunks through about four or five machines. The end result... a tablespoon.
People they are trees not people , where are your brains in your pocket. Thats how the economy works , or did you forget that part.
Was that tree already dead though?
It's tragic to see a tree like that felled.
You must live in the city
so tragic that people can live in homes from that wood. your stupidity is the REAL Tragedy
The crown was pretty thin, the tree was nearly dead anyway. They are not immortal.
Saya percaya mereka menebang pohon cuma untuk rezeki. Bukan untuk keseronokan.
Inilah sebagian kecil orang perusak alam
Honestly, as much capability, courage, skill and damn hard work as this requires, I'd rather have the tree :)
I couldn't care any less about the tree. Nature destroys trees everyday somewhere with hurricanes, tornadoes etc. and kills the birds and animals that live in them. If nature doesn't give a damn, neither do I. It's the core principle of agency.
And Americans want to get involved in what we do with our Amazon, they will worry about Alaska, which is already polluted and modified. Countries do not want the good of the Amazon, what they want is the Amazon
@@notfiveo they were using hydraulics. the wedges helped the hydraulics and also were to secure the direction the tree would fall.
@@notfiveoI guess you're blond.
Very well, go out and buy property that has those types of large trees on it and be happy protecting them.
This looks like a tragedy to me. We have very few trees like that left in Oregon; there used to be millions.
Did you see how black the upper branches were and the burn scars on the lower trunk. That tree looked pretty dead to me.
Amerika'nın bu agaclarami İhtiyacı var bu ağaç kaç yılda Yetişiyor yazık
And the Americans talking bad about Brazilians, making it worse, I as a Brazilian am of the opinion that we should pass the current and cut down all the trees there in the Amazon and set fire to everything, then it end the world's greed for that forest that is only ours and not the world's ends. I will take care of Alaska that is very poorly maintained
And Washington and northern California.
This is fcking false advertisement if I ever saw one.
People talk about how much hard work this is. I’ve been watching this for 10 minutes and I haven’t broken a sweat.
Thank Goodness they finally tracked down that super dangerous stump before anyone else was attacked by it. Hats off to all the brave men and women lightning fast response. Gladly headlines were not sensationalized.

I can’t believe that, 23 years into the 21st century, there isn’t a suitable, synthetic substitute for construction lumber.
Most of synthetic materials are made from hydro carbons. Is that ok with you ?
HEMP..... could make ALL dimensional framing lumber, Just like Timber Strands, LVL's or Microlams.
Petroleum based products, but they are bringing production to its end. Dopes.
Yup... Hemp is the answer.. Not only can you make strong wood substitutes, but Concrete and most petroleum products.. There is a reason we don't grow hemp, the Barrons of the early 1900s would have not never made a profit. Same reason alcohol prohibition happened, cars ran on ethanol, and standard oil could not have that now. So much corruption
@@fepethepenguin8287 Absolutely, and many of them are long term biodegradable. (Hurst forestry was a big player in getting hemp illegal)

The stump removal was the safest part of the whole video.
And it was not the same tree !

You are wonderful. Good luck to you.
Trees of that size are no longer cut in the USA with the exception of cutting trees that serve a larger purpose. (Infestation, disease, potential for structural failure) etc. Our production tree mills have scaled down years ago. Only a small number of lumber producers have the equipment to handle trees of that size.
Thank god. Is is restriction based on tree size or age? Also federal or state regulations?
It’s wonderful knowing that this 200 year old tree is going to turn into something beautiful like an IKEA dining table
Not just a tree, but a huge member of our eco-system.
Not anymore 😔
I think this is in an area that burned, and the tree never recovered. Lot of charring around. Takes from the animals and forest, but better than cutting a live tree,
@David Hall That dying, noncontributing member of our eco-system had to go and add to our economic system.
Every molecule on earth is a member of our eco-system. Go live in the wilderness for awhile.
What about all the crying that we need more affordable housing? Where do you think the materials come from? Magic? EVERYTHING comes with consequences, despite what libt*rds think. Math and facts... the banes of the left.
That tree seemed to have been healthy and well, cutting it should be considered a crime. That was painful to see
Agreed.....why cut down a healthy tree like that? Was it a danger to a home nearby or something?
It looked to me to be a fire Hazzard prime for a lighting strike.
Maybe have a look at the video at the 1:25 mark. The tree was infact damaged at some point in time and likely has bugs or something.
@@JohnSmith-ol2qu Looks like the brush near it may have caught fire and scorched it in that area.
The Sixth Commandment does not apply to just humans. There is no predicate to that Commandment, so this is murder in my humble opinion. Anything that is alive in the universe created by the Lord is a predicate to the Sixth Commandment.
Shouldn’t be cutting this down (Unless they have discovered that it has rotted inside and it poses a real threat)
Did not look rotten, but not sure if it was alive.

Profound words by Molly Tuttle.... Two trees in the forest, one was crooked, one was straight Crimson bark and emerald needles growing day by day And though they looked so different, they enjoyed the rain the same side by side A chickadee had told them of a darkness on the land Spinning blades that came to visit carried by a man And every other tree would see them cut down where they stand by and by Oh, can't you see A crooked tree won't fit into the mill machine? They're left to grow wild and free Oh, I'd rather be a crooked tree Perfect trees were driven down the mountain to the mill They turned them into toothpicks and twenty dollar bills It seemed the more the people took, the more they needed still in the end The crooked trees were left there after all the work was done Now they go for weeks and never witness anyone No one left to tell them if they’re growing right or wrong but the whispering wind Oh, can't you see A crooked tree won't fit into the mill machine? They're left to grow wild and free I'd rather be a crooked tree People say I'm different and my way of life seems strange I took the road less traveled, twists and turns along the way But like the crooked tree, I'm growing stronger day by day as the clouds roll by A river never wonders why it flows around the bend A mountain doesn't question how it rose up from the land So who am I to wish I wasn't just the way I am? Who am I? Oh, can't you see A crooked tree won't fit into the mill machine? They're left to grow wild and free Oh, I'd rather be a crooked tree A crooked tree won't fit into the mill machine They're left to grow wild and free I'd rather be a crooked tree Oh, I'd rather be a crooked tree
Us humans created Nuclear weapons too. We or at least a portion of us are insane.
Reminds me of a paradox I was taught years ago, about how the places on earth with the most natural resources tend to have the poorest people. Because of their natural resources, the governments need people to gather the resources and don’t need to educate the people.. Meanwhile, places with few resources need to try harder to earn money, and their people end up educated and have nice amenities.
I am no Tree Hugger but it is a little sad to see such a beautiful tree fall! that tree was probably over 100 years old
The tree they felled was probably a lot older than that.
This tree had probably more than 500 years
It's extremely sad. Also, "Tree Hugger" is just a slur industrialists use to discredit rational people who care about being good custodians to the land. We have done a terrible job of that in the US. It's embarrassing.
If it is any consolation the tree was probably used to make a lot of homes for people to live in for the next hundred years.
At least the timber was being used properly and not just shredded to create news print.
Сотни лет роста, борьбы за существование....
I dont miss those days of being pulled in, pulled out, pulled sideways driving truck.
Did a few years of tree work ( not on this scale) they did it right! You sleep real good after a day of tree work!!
Would like to hear the thought process during in the minds of each team member during the cut. Such a balancing act.. crazy..
Tough and dangerous work even on a day when the weather is nice.
That logger had some serious skills. Operating a giant chainsaw and swinging an axe with perfect precision. When the right skills meet the right tools, it is fascinating to watch. Not one wasted motion.
It’s lots and lots of practice.
下手くそだと思います。
It's too bad real skills like this don't get much recognition these days.
We need to cut more of that old growth lumber. Help control forest fires and cut it while it’s still valuable.
From just a seed to a magnificent tree like that. Dozen of years to grow up but just a bunch of hours to make it disappear forever. 😢
Dozens? You mean hundreds. But it does leave a nice wasteland behind.
@@peterbreis5407 Not a wasteland, room for another tree to grow.
Look like it will make some really good furniture....and some really thick toilet paper to flush macdonald hamburgers
Dozens of years, probably 10 dozen.
Just like people. Years to grow and mature. One illness, poor decision, or accident and they’re gone forever.
How sad to see such perfectly healthy, large, and old tree be put down.
I am too sad to see trees being cut mercilessly 😢
@@pabitramohangayan1482 What? do you think trees have a heart? They were created by god for our use and enjoyment, but they are not animals or men.
It wasn’t healthy. Had a fungal infection. Look at the slice carved out before it fell.
Tree was fundamentally dead. It went to good use.
there is an ~114 yo white pine (Pinus monticola) behind my neighbor's garage (36" diameter trunk) that, like that tree in the video, has a dead crown. It's first growth post "the big burn". much rathert it be felled and used for finish lumber than just rot.
Using 50" chain saws with the delicacy and precision of a surgeon, awesome, frightening and so skill full.
For every magnificent old-growth tree that is "harvested" a fee should be collected from whoever is profiting off this which would go to buying land with such ancient trees on it which would forever remain in trust. The supply of this kind of tree is not limitless.

Why would you want to cut down a majestic tree like this one?
Pause at 9:21 and you will see that Pine beetles have all but killed it. Once the foliage starts to die off, you only have a couple of months before the entire tree starts to die and ROT while still standing. Once it starts to decay, the wood is all but useless for boards and paper.
For the wood.

DANG, couldn't they see that the giant pine tree had been there a very long time and it wanted badly to live? Money can drive some men to do absolutely anything; even serve the devil himself. Also all I can say about the pine tree cutting debacle is that was a darn good chainsaw that fella was using. Also I got very tired watching him hammering in wedges to tip the poor pine tree. 🥺
Money will make otherwise good men do anything. If someone offered you $10 million dollars to cut down a thousand year old tree would you do it? I would like to think I would not do it, but that's the whole conundrum of the thing. I can tell you one thing though, the fat cats, and big businessmen that own these business don't have trees cut down around their mansions, and backyards!

May God place someone in your life now that can help lead you to Him. Take care my friend. 🙏 p.s. No I, like you, would not cut this tree down. 😊
It’s not about the money, it’s an opportunity. People are opportunists, and leaving a tree standing means passing up on the opportunity. Some of us can do that, but it’s hard to expect Everyone to, so unless we have laws forbidding it, stopping it from being an opportunity (or an easy one at least), than someone’s likely to jump on it..

Nice to see the tree win for once
I wonder if anything that was made from this wood, was as useful as the tree was?
It’s dead killed in fire . See the bark falling off .
That bloke is one very skilled operator. To make an accurate scarf (wedge) with such a long bar on such a large trunk takes an immense amount of experience and skill, but to do it when the angle (second) cut is made upwards rather than downwards is even more difficult. Given the plunge cut he initially made, I'm assuming the tree had a significant lean (or amount of weight) in the direction of the intended fall - and he was endeavouring to reduce the tension on the opposite side of the trunk (to his scarf and the intended direction of fall) and in order to reduce any possibility of any barber chair effect when he later made his final (back) cut).
wow..sangat luar biasa👍👍👍🙏
Such a giant tree is a part of history and should be preserved
I was a logger, the cutter’s know how valuable and rare the old growth is. It must be cut to make way for new growth, and to make your house!

Just remember that trees are renewable. We just have to be mindful of how much we take down and be sure to replant areas. Still, does make me a little sad to see a massive tree go down. The old things in life will pave way to the newer things. This tree did survive many years, but it accomplished so much.
Accomplished what exactly? It is a plant. It grew. It could do little else.
@@astroboy483 It's a fricken filter. All plants filter out greenhouse gases (like CO2) and turns it into air we breathe. that, and it helps make more trees further down the road. SO yes, it accomplished far more than you have ever done in your life.

No, it ends up in China, converted into pellets, in case they run out of coal
Try using bricks and mortar then perhaps in the event of a hurricane they would have more chance of remaining intact instead of ending up as matchwood.
5:48 For the people concerned about cutting down such an old tree down, if you look at the wedge he removed you can pretty clearly see a large patch of fungal stain. This tree was already dead or dying. Depending on the surroundings it would have become a hazard to anything around it.
