I guess the message is clear: Never underestimate Leylah. Scrappiest player on tour. She always seems to adjust and turn the match around her way. Lovely lady!
Leylah is such a fun player to watch. Since I knew about her long before her US Open run it’s nice to see a player make such an improvement. I love her fighting spirit and commitment to improving.
It’s been wonderful to see… I also watched her before the us open and I never expected her to come into herself so quick like she has …. She is amazing …. I’ll always root for her

I fully believe Leylah needs to improve her serve speed. And, her drop shots are a bit high: where Anastasia was not able to get to them, quite a few other players can and will. I love Laylah and I just want her to improve.

What a comeback by Fernandez
Good to see Pavlyuchenkova playing again, but she's clearly not match fit as she gassed 2nd and 3rd set, but still props to Leylah for persevering. Excited to see how deep she goes this tournament.
Oh so you think it was a matter of Anastasia not sustaining her level? I on the other hand think it was Leylah who started playing better and better and played at her best level
I’m happy leylah won. But yes , Pavs did not look her best … and this was her match to win. She’s the better player but didn’t really display that … props to leylah for fighting it out…. She has a bright future
Pretty obvious Anastasia's been snacking again.
Yeah Anastasia was pretty much done after that first set. Which is unfortunate coming off an injury. This was a horrible match up for her there was no way she could keep up with this child. After that first it was just a one sided beating. She was running Anastasia ragged the same way she ran Kerber ragged and Kerber was in much better shape than Anastasia. These older veterans have struggled against her because they don't know how to put her away if they win a set on her.

I love Leylah, especially when she puts pace on the ball like she did after the first set. Those high, soft-bouncing moon-like balls she hits is why she gets her brains beat out, and she does it all too often. Leylah, with some exceptions, HIT THE BALL HARD!
She is so small though😅. It's hard for her to hit it hard. She has to use her brain and her craftiness to win matches

Of course she has lots of talent, fighting spirit and a clever game. IMO she needs to improve her serve and forehand quite a bit if she wants to get into the top 5.

Well fought from Pavlyuchenkova, I love her! Leylah is just a bit too solid and consistent for her, but it was a great battle!
This match didn't have the same intensity as their match from last year. Outside the first set this match was a one sided whooping from Leylah. Anastasia was getting worked out and gassed by Leylah making her chase drop shots. Anastasia was clearly not in the best shape coming off injury. This was honestly brutal to watch seeing how easy Leylah made it look after recovering from that first set.

one more comment to be fair: I did not see the whole match. To be completely fair- Leylah's performance is super gutsy!! well done! hold your head up high! The other girl was schooled at mortageleu academy in france since she was a teen.

Pavlyuchenkova has the weapons but extra weight is a hindrance on anyone in professional sport.
Leylah knew her opponent wasn;t going to hit like that or run like that for the whole match. Stayed confident, started making her run up for drop shots and wore her out instantly. Easy math.
Fernandez has done this to alot of the older players. Look what she did to Kerber at the US Open. Kerber had her in that second set 4-2 but Fernandez picked up the pace and rallied. By the third set Kerber was done Leylah ran Kerber so much and wore her out. You could tell by Kerber's body language she didn't want to play anymore. An 18 year old at the time mentally and physically and physically broke 2 time grand slam champion Kerber. She did the same to Anastasia here. Who ever thought it was a good idea to put Anastasia against Fernandez after coming off injury is a bad person. They knew Fernandez was going kick her butt.

She got killed in the first set. Then at the end of the first set, she changed her hairstyle back for the first time to the way it used to be at USO. Then all of a sudden she played like she did at USO. Funny the variables that affect tennis players. Whether of superstition or not

Leylah might need a another year to two to put on some muscle. Her shots werent heavy as swiatek . Leylah has the skills and tenacity . i hope to see heavy ball striking without giving much time for the opponent from leylah.
I agree, if she produces power like swiatek or just improve in putting more pace per shots then many of her opponents will have a hard time in their rally since she create angles accurately. But her servee is still meeh, hoping for her to have a consistent first serve

She lacks good tennis techniques. She needs to hire an experienced international TENNIS COACH to help her develop great techniques and propel her to the next level. Otherwise she'll keep losing in the first or second round against players with better tennis acumen.
