IGA + finally a quite decent serve = almost unstoppable!
Iga playing level is stratospheric at the moment! Leylah played at quite a good level, but on all critical points Iga just raised her level one more notch. Iga's ability to turn defence into counter attack is at a level that I have never seen on the WTA tour.

On Tv they said : " Leylah Fernandez and Iga Swiatek will have one of greatest rivalries for the years to come." That is laughable. Iga is on an other planet. Leylah is not even close to winning a set against Iga 🤣

Iga, the most cheated-for tennis player in 2022, just so she would get better and the WTA would have their shining white star to be "good for tennis." They gave her all the motivation and confidence she needed to excel and become better with shot-making. Call it hate, but this is intellect and the evidence was ALL over most of 2022.

It looks like Iga is always trying to improve her shot depth and placement, recognizing that it’s not just mindless power hitting that will win out. No question her game most closely resembles a female Djokovic.
Yes, her shots recently reminds me a lot of Novak's. the depth, the strength and the accuracy, it's really amazing

Her favourite tennis player might be Rafa but I agree with you, she resembles way more Novak. Her movement, sliding on hard courts and backhand are very Djokovic-like. Similarly to Novak (at the beginning of his career) her return is also a bigger weapon than her serve. It will be interesting to see what her peak level will look like in the future cause it's clear to me that she's only been improving her game.

@@homeopt Nah, Belinda was tired. She won Abu Dhabi and flew to Doha with very little time to regenerate. To be frank I was surprised she decided to participate, because she had few long matches on her way. Dubai is more important tournament anyway.

I noticed that too. Fernandez was covered in sweat, breathing heavily and then they showed Iga and there was nothing, barely any sign of tiredness.
The only downside was Iga's serve until last month. Now she is serving like bombs. Good luck to the opponents 😄

I always thought her serve was pretty decent, but it does seem to have improved recently. Is she using another racket? I see a different logo painted on the strings now.
The most impressive thing for me is Swiatek's serve - it is normally not her "weapon" but she served up 5 aces in this match! Never thought she was capable of that!

of course, Iga improved her serve, but if today her opponent was a player with a height of at least 170 cm, she'd make no more than one ace. Leilah has very short hands unfortunately...

Credit to Leylah for not being bageled. The score line doesn’t reflect how many close games there were. It was a pretty long match for two breadsticks
Fernandez has so much tenacity and determination, but just doesn't have the weapons in her game to hurt the best players.
I actually think she does have weapons but I’ve noticed her defensive abilities are very limited. It feels like every time Iga played a big, hard shot Leylah couldn’t handle it.
Iga pretty much only plays big hard shots. Her game is basically this: Lean forward, get behind the ball, and hit it hard aiming for the part of the court which opponent has not covered well.
Fernandez has huge weapons. You don't need to denigrate her because she lost to Swiatek.

Glad you posted this match on yt. I always appreciate Leylah for her bravery. Well, there wasn't much she could do today. Iga Świątek is in great shape. She is also a great world number one. After leaving Ash Iga saves the WTA :) Although I see potential in Aryna, Elena and Jessica this season. Iga has someone to compete with and that's what we should care about a strong WTA.
Leylah is Just a petulant little girl.
Iga will continue her form even in 2023 no doubt about it. She will win Dubai, RG, Indian Wells, Miami Open for sure. She is unbeatable now like Novak.
Iga has so many weapons to hurt other players. While the likes of Rybakina, Sabalenka rely on their powerful serves, Iga has spin, accuracy, speed & power as well. Has anyone noticed he biceps recently? Lots of time lifting weights clearly. She's approaching peak-Serena level!

Agree for Iga, disagree for Elena and Aryna. If Rybakina and Sabalenka relied only on serve (like Isner from the men side), we wouldn't see (80+❗winners). Yeah, the serve is their biggest weapon, but that doesn't mean it's their only weapon.

Sabalenka is a cheating sound machine model of Serena Williams and Sharapova and Azarenka and the whooty whoot manly gurlz. She even squeals when she hits a drop shot. Imagine the effort.

Iga so fast and accurate with her shots!!
No one's talking about what's really winning Iga her matches. Its her Western forehand. Barely anyone on the WTA uses or sees it. The entire WTA tour struggles to return her forehands. I remember when I played my first western grip user. I lost 1-6, 1-6 on two different occasions. Its really hard to deal with, you need practice against it to see where the contact point should be. She learned to use that grip bc her favorite player Rafa uses it.
Why didn't the western grip forehand help her to beat Rybakina at the AO and the Cup ?

@@homeopt I was about to say the same lol. Fernandez is a product of the COVID era when all the top players couldn't compete. She will never be on top again. These young players let all the early success go to their heads and don't work on their games/fitness and mental fortitude.
@@mwoz14222 I don't think that's a fair assessment. She broke out at the 2021 US Open. All the favorites were there and she beat a few of them. I don't know if she'll get back to a Grand Slam final but she's a good player.

She still lost to Barty every time they played. She became number 1 because Barty left the game. Dont tell me she got better. No. She grew more confident because she started winning more. Why? Because Barty left.

I have said this before and I’ll say it again. Iga is the equivalent of playing an ai robot on those computers. She is that good and flawless. And she paints lines like it’s nobodies business. It’s intimidating. And the opponents have already lost even before stepping onto the court. She’s not my favorite player but giving credit where credit is due. She will remain #1 for a very long time. You go girl 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Iga mocno poprawiła serwis. Wierze, ze w spotkaniach z Sabalenką czy Rybakiną właśnie ten czynnik przechyli szalę na korzyść naszej światowej jedynki!
To nie wystarczy - Iga musi jeszcze głęboko returnować i wykorzystywać okazje, bo big hitterki nie dadzą jej zbyt wielu okazji do przełamań. No i Iga musi zachować spokój, gdy pojawią się BP. Pierwszy set może być kluczowy dla nadania tonu całemu spotkaniu.
@@vojtasjedyny Przede wszystkim return i nie dawać im łatwych piłek do ataku, ale na chwilę obecną to raczej one muszą się bardziej martwić jak ograć Igę w formie.

Good to see Iga continuing to play strong on a fast court. We'll see if she can keep that up against stiffer competition. She hasn't finished further than the 3rd round in this tourney, so hoping she can stay on-point like she was in Doha.
I really hope so! I fear Sabalenka's current form! I feel like Sabalenka 2.0 this year is going to be Iga's biggest threat. (I am not a Sabalenka fan at all, but can't help to notice her form! Iga seems a little more vulnerable in comparison...)
@@effortlesslyfit Not just Sabalenka, but Samsonova could be tough tomorrow (I think it will be very competitive but Iga wins) and there's also Rybakina. The court speed could favor those players, so it will be a good test to see how focused/determined Iga is.
@@postive-vibes rybakina's shape dwindles a lot since AO. Sabalenka played very good today, but she had a rather easy opponent.
@@black.cake1 We'll see about Rybakina. I only say that because she beat Iga convincingly the last two times they met, and Iga is in a different mind space right now. Iga can beat her... just want to see her do it on a fast hard court. And Iga has beaten Sabalenka a few times, so she can definitely win against her. Sabalenka has raised her game, though (just as Iga has over the last week or so), so that could be an amazing match if they both get there.

Great play again 1guś 1genius! The next match is a real test though. Samsonova's game is the antidote to Swiatek's smart, poisonous shots. She plays flat, aggressive balls, but can hit with margin and her rally balls have plenty of spin, penetrating spin that is, due to her high racket head speed! Quite similar to Rybakina. She's not the type of player to struggle with Iga's rally ball like most girls, so should be an interesting match. All I'd like to see as Iga's fan, is her fighting spirit in this match, win or lose. It's amazing she's winning all these matches with a loss of a few games, and a testament to her continued superiority on WTA tour, but I'd like to see her do well when the game is tight too.. Last times she did was against Bencic at United Cup and Niemier at AO. She can do it again though! Good luck 1genius 😎💪🌛

it's getting to the point where you will be asking not if she dropped any sets during the match but if she dropped any games! that was a crazy level, Leylah looked good, as did Collins last week - these aren't cannon fodder, but seriously high level opponents and she is allowing them 1 or 2 games!
And once again..1 and 0 vs Samsonova! Crazy..the interesting thing is that alot of the games are close but she plays the big points so well

This is going to be a problem for Fernandez her whole career. She played relatively well and got bread sticked. There was nothing she could do against Iga.

Not Leylah's day. However any player going against Iga right now is going to have a tough match. Iga is in that zone.
Leylah was hitting very safe shots in the 1st set and those will go for winners. One of the shots Iga hit was a short high bouncer and LF just hit down the middle.
The outcome of the match was easy to predict. Fernandez doesn't have the tools to beat the best players. She is ambitious, smart, but limited by her physicality. But Samsonova is such a "younger" sister of Sabalenka and Rybakina and can hurt Swiatek...Especially on such a fast surface...
Perhaps you are lining up a wish list to throw against "The Gladiator".
I really do not hope Iga get's it in her head to challenge herself to drop less games because it may work against her. She is overpowering opponents dropping less games in a tournament. Queen 1GA!

Some of the women tennis players seem to have raised their games a notch making the game much more interesting. The outcome or the winner are more difficult to foretell now. It also put more pressure on others to meet the challenge or would find it difficult to win another title or championship....a bigger challenge has come. Women's tennis getting more enjoyable to watch.

I see leylah has the tendency to try to out hit players (especially ones her age) she was much more patient but still had aggression during USO21 (up until emma) but this was always gonna be a bad match up anyways. Heavy top spin vs a baseline hugger.
Even with all of that its still 1 and 1. Leyla didn't even played bad its just that iga was just too good.

When Swiatek is playing well only power hitters like Sabalenka, Rybakina, Samsonova will give her trouble. Engage in rallies with Swiatek and you are going to come off second best.
Sabalenka fine technic and powerfull, but on the baseline Iga has the upperhand, Rybakina yes she has theoretical the skills to hurt her
