  • Big Collins fan. Unlike most of the stars of tennis, she doesn't come from a privileged background and has an incredible work ethic. And it's always perversely enjoyable when such a partisan crowd is shut down. Of course the local favorite gets cheered, but the crowd's reaction was a bit over the top. Maybe the few Canadians who aren't nice are the ones who showed up here. 🙂

    • Fernandez was a bit outclassed by Collins in this match (kind of like a light-heavyweight against a heavyweight, in some ways). Also, the same goes for Raducanu; the 2021 championship match was really something of an aberration. Both players are top professionals, but there are so many other women that can serve bigger, hit harder, and are more consistent that it was really a surprise women's final that year. Leylah (and Emma) are both great tennis players, but I doubt either one of them will ever see a slam event final again.

  • This crowd is irritating. Can you not even respect the other player just because of the bad skills from your home player? Sometimes people dont understand how hard it us to play agiainst weaker players. It takes some tenacity to finish a point, which Collins did well here. The crowd should be rethinking their decisuons. 😒

    • Come on. It's Leyla's hometown and her crowd. As as a player, you should have self respect, not need it from the crowd.

  • Leylah just wanting to sit back with way too much of a swing motion and play the teenage baseliner game. Doesn't work against stronger, more capable women. Juniors tennis is over, move on from the Raducanu loss already.
