Cornet is a tough player. Halep didn't have an easy match. And next is Collins, another tough player. :) But we have nice matches, good for us.

Halep had some good results this season. She lost to players who went on to win the tournament (iga, ostapenko, ons) with the exception of cornet in Australia. Hope she continues this kind of form

No one uses lob shots as a tactical weapon vs. Halep. Doomed to failure. I'm sure I speak for many when I say I have wished for years that Alize had more attack in her game. Wonderful defender blessed with competitive fire but just not enough counterpunch to beat the top-echelon players. Alize is also such a high-class human being and it's so easy to root for her. Je t'aime, Alize. Wish to see you in the winner's circle more often.

Halep has to bring more power to her first serves and try to end each point as early as possible! She has to go for winners all the time coz the competition is already doing all of that very well this year! If Simo has to win another slam she must impress in these areas! She has to play really tight for every title coz Naomi, ONS and Iga look out of reach these past few months! And these are the three that will stand in her way in every Major! The rest have their on and off days! Oh BTW I’m a huge Simo fan! Love to see her win everything! 👍

Pathetic highlights! They make you somehow believe Cornet dominated the match! Not even remotely! Halep was much better and had many good shots including a few dropshots. She, unfortunately, relaxed too much when she was 5-1, respectively 5-2, and made mistakes that allowed Cornet back into the game.

Cornet's dropshots were horrible and plunged her. Simona must have win this match because Cornet is not Ons Jabeur
Those dropshots were so attackable. Seeing a lot of the ATP+WTP try and hit these since Alcaraz but damn, it's ugly when most of them try.
@@40rods Yes, there are too many players trying to win a match by dropshots and only e few of them are true specialists. For me only Jabeur is a good at it, and in the past Radwanska was.
Congrats to you Simona. Normally Alize is stronger than that, but today those drop shots were just way too high.
With all of the tough competition these days - I don’t think Simona can win another slam in her career.
