What Did Collins Say to Ruse at the Net? | "This is Women Tennis, So"

Danielle Collins seemed annoyed when Elena-Gabriela Ruse took a medical timeout before her service game in the deciding set of their quarter-final match at the 2021 Hamburg European Open. When the match came to close in favour of Ruse, a seemingly annoyed Collins seemed to have had something to Ruse at the net, making the situation even more awkward. What did Collins say to Ruse?

  • I lost a lot of respect for DRC after this episode, as she seems to be very displeased when somebody takes MTO on her, but not the other way around. In 2021 she played a very intense match with Simona Halep at the Canadian master, and in the 3rd set when the momentum changed toward Simona Halep in the thris set, she took a long MTO which totally changed the momentum of the match and helped her win. At the end of the match, she was very apologetic at the net, but not sure if Simona bought that, as you could see here, she's realtively nice when things go her way, but very nasty when they not. Of course it's Gabriela Ruse who took what she was told at the net, out of the context. Never her fault. Gabriela Elena Ruse ended up winning her first tournament in Hamburg (the one where she beat DRC in the QF) after she came from Qualies. In Palermo, the met in the final, after GER came agen from the qualies and in the final took a MTO, but it didn't bother DRC this time, as she won, which proves what i said above.

For me she's thé most arrogant wta player. She doesnt deserve à respect at all. Did you see yesterday how mamy times Naomi applaused her game ? • I don’t think she’s spoiled. What I understand is that she had modest training and went to UVA to play college tennis. Big $ players go to IMG or something. She acts like a Prima Donna for sure, more so than Camille Giorgi. She can be witchy, but that’s better than whacking the umpire chair with racket. But she will alienate people from her. I think the ferocity of her competitive nature is externalized into female warrior. Osaka internalizes hers and beats Serena anyway.

  • Collins is retiring? She has had a remarkable run in the past few months and she should be very thankful for all the success she has earned. But, through it all she had had an edge to her game which hasn't been very pleasant to watch. You can call it great determination and focus but..... Even in this video, when it was time for her to speak after her victory at the awards ceremony she 'purposely' didn't mention the other player's name, instead calling her, "her opponent". That's nasty. If Collins thought she might become a tv analysist for the game after retirement, well, I don't know what her chances will be like. But, in today's world, the more outspoken someone is, the more they are heralded as centers of attraction for getting favorable ratings for their 'employers'. Stirring controversy has become an art form and you don't have to like it, but, that's the way it is right now.
