    • It is not funny. It shows how the rules are different when color is involved. This woman physically tried to fight Sloane and had to be restrained. She didn't lose a penalty point, she didn't receive a warning, she didn't receive a fine, she didn't default the match. If that had been Serena Williams, she would have been disqualified for inappropriate behavior. It is not funny. It is actually sad.

    • @@AinSoph73 You’ve just watched this video and you honesty think Pavlyuchenkova smashed a ball at Stephens “strategically”? I’m well aware of the rules, but this isn’t someone hitting a passing shot at a player to win a point. She did it through anger with the sole intention of hitting her which is not ok. Do you not remember Shapovalov destroying someone’s eye with a tennis ball when he was angry? And that was an accident! If Pav had actually hit Sloane’s stomach with a smash from less than a few metres away (as she was intending to) it could have caused a serious injury.

      @milvao3400@milvao34002 жыл бұрын
    • @@milvao3400 Stephens should not have acted how, exactly? I see many players calling out very suspect medicals, because many humans are cheats, we all know it, and with a lot at stake many resort to very dishonest behaviour. It happens all the time in tennis, players calling a medical hoping to break the opponent's momentum and are suddenly 100%. Stephens\players have the right to address it to the umpire and if it is said loudly enough for the opponent to hear then that's just too bad. Not only did her opponent displayed a guilty conscience, but knowing Stephens called her out she then proceeded to deliberately smash balls at her to hit her and revealed that in that moment she harboured desires in her heart to do physical harm to her opponent on the court. All these things are not coming from a nice place and hang together as the actions of a cheat who gets nasty when called out. I say this as a fan of neither of the players, but only as one viewing this incident for the first time.

  • Greeting to all. I wanted to make a couple of key clarifications for the people who are not experienced tennis players themselves. 1.Overhead in tennis is a pretty wonky shot. Especially if you are way inside the court, you oftentimes just want to hit it hard, roughly into the middle of the opponent's court, regardless of where the opponent is; there are too many things that can go wrong and you want to concentrate on executing the shot properly rather than on avoiding hitting the player. If you are in the position where you don't want to risk getting hit, you just turn around and give up on the point - that's all. In fact, there are situations (usually when you are somewhere in the vicinity of the service line and your opponent is guarding the net), where the best play is actually to go right at the player; in this case you want to aim at the right hip if they are right-handed, which would make for the most difficult volley. It you try to pass, there is always a chance of a reflex volley winner and, in the aforementioned situation, you want to take that option away from the opponent at the net and ignore the invariable boos from unsophisticated spectators. 2. The subtitle "I was going to hit her with the racket" is a horrible translation, as it implies intent where there was none. You can run it through google translate or ask someone who has studied slavic linguistics. What she actually said was "I THOUGHT I WOULD hit her with the racket", meaning that N.P. , who had developed a shoulder injury and who is not known for "abusing" the medical timeout rule, was so outraged about what she knew to be an unjust accusation that she was not sure she'd be able to control herself. It was also a strange spectacle to see her so worked up and break down mentally, being one of the more balanced and collected girls out there. As one wise player told me long time ago - tennis is game of cool. The one who stays coolest wins in this game. LOL.

The umpire is still climbing down from the chair at that moment. I'm really not concerned about who started it but when Sloane, moments later, claims that she wasn't addressing Pavy, that is absolute nonsense. These quotes by Stephens are clearly being directed straight at her opponent. If it was being done via the umpire then 'she' would be used instead of 'you'. I do get it and have seen it plenty times in tennis matches. Players get emotional when things are going against them. So they feel the need to make some drama to fire themselves up and / or unsettle their opponent. A lot of the time, it's petty nonsense and both players know it. Both her and the interviewer thought it was funny that she wanted to smash her with the racket and then trying to hit her with the overhead????? Show's what her mentality and kind of people they are. She did not gain a fan here, and definitely would not root for her in a match going foward.

  • What’s with this calling a ‘physio’ nonsense? It’s a time-out. If you can’t go on physically….quit the match.

    @terrencecoccoli524@terrencecoccoli5242 жыл бұрын
    • You wouldn't want to lose a match if a physio can actually help you relieve some pain or discomfort. Sometimes a pill is enough for players to play better.

      @anshathani1987@anshathani19872 жыл бұрын
    • It's a reasonable rule. Everyone might need something whether it's taping or tratment for foot blisters or minor things like that. I don't understand why players make such a big deal about their opponents taking breaks or asking for the physio. They know that they can do it. They're used to playing in so many different conditions, in full pack stadiums with all sorts of distractions, can't they just sit down and wait a 3-minute break? And if someone is doing that as a strategy, wouldn't it be better to ignore them? Taylor did it against Nadal in Indian Wells. Nadal called the physio even during the changeovers, but Taylor didn't care and didn't complain. He won the match and that's it.
