  • 03:33 Here's a fun tidbit. Chris mentions the EVO that Tommi Mäkinen "dominated the sport in". Same Tommi Mäkinen was the chief of the Toyota rally team during 2017 to 2020 before moving on to being a motorsports advisor for Toyota. He led the Toyota rally team to victory in 2018. He actively participated in developing the Yaris GR. I feel like that cements its place in that line up even more.

But he is the biggest name in motoring journalism because of his quality of pulling people in and making you feel this character every car has. Chris can do that as well, it just so happens he has the driving skill to back it up even more. Both are unapologetic in their opinions and will give you the good and the bad of a car in a brutally honest way. But one, that shows the emotions in either category. It’s a very fast road car simply because of the grip and weight, other hugely powerful cars always back off at any bend or roundabout but this car attacks. I’ve just driven my sons brand new 70k vorsprung RS3 which is rapid and is so much more luxurious but it doesn’t have the driving experience of a homolgation GR especially the steering suspension and road feel and he agrees, the RS3 is lovely, numb but with a great engine. • This car, much like the original M2, is one of those instant classics. They are simple, easy to understand, unbelievably exciting… they have been built with a level of love and understanding that seeps through every molecule of bodywork. Not bland numbers, no customer base derived selling points… they are made to be brilliant and invented to be characterful. They are the kind of brilliance we love about all our dream cars, our bedroom wall posters, our heroes. They are - simply put - era defining drivers cars.

      @markos8400@markos84002 жыл бұрын
    • @@markos8400 Yeah, granted Toyota must have been wanted to take the 3cyl engine to competition as well (at WRC2/WRC3 at least), so it's definitely gonna have to be more durable to take all those abuse. There's even an AP4 GR Yaris at Australia made by Neil Bates Motorsport and they're keeping the 3cyl engine. (AP4 is equivalent to R5 Rally cars). If we're talking about tuning then i remember HKS & G-Force also tune their car to reach around 360-400hp and it made the car lapping faster than a Nismo GTR around Tsukuba, all of it with stock internals. HKS did say they wanted to see how far the 3cyl can go before it pop or needing stronger internals.
