Flat-Out In The £3.5m Bugatti Bolide!

2024 ж. 9 Мам.

The track-only Bugatti Bolide is deranged. Because as its starting point the Bolide doesn’t take some lithe and lightweight little powertrain, but Bugatti’s juggernaut of an engine - the infamous 1,578bhp 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16.
It’s arguably the world’s greatest hypercar powertrain, and in the Bolide it’s strapped to a true racing car chassis, an entirely new carbon monocoque built to FIA safety requirements.
The mad engine and unique chassis are then clothed in bespoke carbon body panels, which look knee-tremblingly good and generate almost three tonnes of downforce at the Bolide’s top speed. Which is 227mph in the high-downforce setting.
Bugatti is building only 40 Bolides, they’ll cost £3.5m each, and Top Gear is the first to experience it in full flight, besides chief test driver (and Le Mans winner) Andy Wallace...
Over to Top Gear Magazine’s editor-in-chief, Jack Rix, who tries not to be sick in the passenger footwell.

Anyways, it's actually for the best. Insanely fast cars like these *belong* on a racetrack. Driving this car in dense city traffic is killing its essence. Here's another reality: This car is too fast for mere mortals and can only be fully utilized and enjoyed by professional race car drivers.

      @oli_onion@oli_onionАй бұрын
    • @@oli_onion could maybe make slightly more sense than this powertrain but still not viable. There's a reason the engines are smaller these days. The goal isn't to refuel every 15 minutes (time it takes to empty the chiron's tank on full gas). Even as a hybrid powertrain that V16 will consume way too much gas and would probably not be reliable enough for 24 hours of full send

      @icappuccino7477@icappuccino7477Ай бұрын
    • I wouldn't say easily. They would need to do some very drastic changes in order to compete, to the point where the final vehicle wold be radically different: Just some numbers to think about in WEC Hyperclass: - Maximum output: 500 kW (about 671 hp) - Minimum weight: 1030 kg If this thing were to race they will have to cut down a little less than 1000 HP from its original output (1600 ps). Supressing some turbos might do the trick while also lowering weight but they would also need room to install a hybrid system (which adds even more weight!) and on top of that they would need to significantly reduce downforce figures. The resulting car would be underpowered, overweight and tremendously limited in terms of downforce. And that's without going into the specificities of the engine and its reliability.
