Ignoring all the enviromental effects oil is just going to run out and it'll cause wars unless the reliance on it is reduced or we can make it go further. Engine downsizing is one way of doing that. Going to have to start somewhere. The irony is the idiotic chase for 500+bhp over the last decade to 15 years has made cars heavier and more inefficient. Lighter, cleverer materials actually innovating smaller ICE engines would have made this inevitability around V6 and V8 engines getting binned less of an issue.

  • M3T was destined to be the winner from the start. BMW's engineers knew that it would be now or never to make an M3 Touring. The M3 is the best in class already, making an estate version just brings in that extra level of emotion. RS4 has always been the sensible choice and it has held up really well against the competition. I would definitely consider an RS4 for daily driving duties along the Autobahn. The C63Se on the other hand is a majot letdown and disappointment. The car as clearly said in the review is unfinished. I love the way the new C class looks and it would have been a great car if AMG developed the 6 cylinder engine from the E53. At least the emotional element will still be there and the car would feel more special to drive. Instead, they take the 4 cylinder already developed for A45s and throw that into the C63 thinking that giving it nearly 700 horsepower will not make owners care. The C63 was never great dynamically. What was attractive about it was the engine and how the car made people feel. The C63 now has lost its main appeal. What's more, values of hybrids are gonna drop through the roof, especially on a car that only has 8 miles of range. What a missed oppertunity. I think Mercedes know it

If they feel compelled to downsize massively at the very least a five banger would have allowed them to retain a worthy exhaust note and a sense of specialness to the drivetrain. • I have loved AMG since childhood, those big V8s, sometimes with another 4 banger "bolted" ontop making those gorgeous V12s. AMG is the reason I've been working hard my whole adulthood, working to achieve my goal of being an AMG owner by the time I'm 30 years old. March 2020 was the month I took ownership of my very own S205 C63s, one of the best moments in my life. I could finally be behind the wheel of my childhood dream, enjoy that glorious V8 rumble and roar. I did not care my three pointed star was posting slower laptimes than my friends M cars, because every time I fired up those 8 cynlinders all my worries in life went away. In that moment, it was just me, the open road and that beast of a V8. No matter what people believe, from my own experience, that V8 alone makes the car. My girlfriend who cares less than 0 about cars knows that V8 rumble is special, friends with no car interests keep pointing out a family estate couldn't possibly make those kind of sounds. AMG said they didn't build the new C63s E because they had to, but rather to show the world they could. Then I have to argue that just because you can, doesn't mean you should. What is AMG without a V8? How can AMG stand out and inspire a new generation of car enthusiasts when it has lost it's heritage? Who is this car for? I want to own more AMG cars in the future, the question is, will there be any AMG in the future that I want to own?

  • Thank-you so much for doing and unbiased review on the new C63 S e-perforamnce, by doing it side by side of the M3 Touring and the RS4 Competition Avant. When I say unbiased you are the first person to call the C63 S e-per what it actually is. Not a very good driver's car as it has way too much technology thrown at and trying to be a Performance wagon/car and a fuel-efficient car. Everyone that has reviewed this car gave over-the-moon reviews and emphasized how brilliant it was by constantly quoting the Brake Hosepower numbers. If they had put this drivetrain into the CLA, GLA models they would of had a winner. However putting this into the C63S it's going to be a Parking Lot Marker on the Dealer Lots. Anyone and Everyone that has been an owner or a shopper of the C63 of the first gen or 2nd gen W204 C63 want the Naturally aspirated V8 and would not want to trade-in that for this new 2023/24 Generation. In my opinion, Mercedes will not recoup any money for this car and when the accountants of Mercedes see the numbers of sales v. their completion in class they are going to be very upset/sad. $90k, for this or $80k for the BMW M3 Touring or the BMW M3 Sedan Competiton v. the C63s E-Performance Sedan, will be sold 10 to 1. Also, I believe that the Facelifted 2012-2014 Sedan C63 and the 2012-2015 Coupe with the P31/P30 Package will quickly become a future classic and the prices will increase very quickly. The cars with the P31/P30 gets you Increased horsepower 481with 443 ft lbs of torque and some SLS Black Series engine components instead of the standard 451, Option Code 471 Limited Slip Differential, U70 Red Brake Calipers with 2 Piece Rotors and H73 Carbon Fiber interior Trim Pieces, and rear trunk spoiler. Also with the Face Lifted C63 you get the New 7 spd auto transmission with Race Start (Launch Control)

  • Merc has really put purists off with this move. This would have been better played if they piloted this on a C43 or an "in-betweener" model which closes the gap between the C43 & the fully fledged 63... something like a C63 (without the S). Purists, which are the most that go for these kind of cars, are not only concerned with horse-power, NewtonMeters & 0-60 sprints alone. They also want the sound, the muscle, the rawness, etc.

  • Wow just shows what great car the RS4 is! It definitely wins the looks test. For a model that's hurtling towards the wrong side of towards a decade old to push the BNIB M3 comp touring so close, speaks volumes. There's a lot of love here for the RS4. I just hope Audi builds on its strengths and not ruin its successor like AMG have slaughtered the C63. I still don't like the Beemers Beaver grille, but the car has a good rear end for sure. 2 great cars and a Mercedes then!

  • I have a fast mercedes and owned a fast BMW a couple of years ago. I have always found Audis a bit dull and dynamically inferior but I think AMG road division like the F1 team have gone down the wrong avenue and for the first time ever would go Audis first, BMW, then Mercedes as the normal BMW default choice is spoilt by the dodgy looks.

  • A C63, should have a 6.3 (I know it is actually a 6.2), liter engine. That is the point of the acronym. The 4.0 twin turbo is a better engine, but it should not be called a 63, because it is really a 40 (if following the same logic). At least it was a v8, so it was kind of ok. But this, sorry, it does not deserve the 63 badge. It probably drives rather well, but one of points of an AMG, RS, M car, or any other performance car, is to put a smile on your face already when you start the engine, the enginenoise should be pleasing while cruising, and the feeling when going for it, should obviously be a lot of fun. Most modern cars do not have theese qualities as their predecessors. Oldschool is best, and it does not need insane speeds to be fun either🤪

    • you realise Alfa are going fully electric soon right 🤣🤣. Big V6s and V8s are dead🤷. Unless there's a lot of reengineering to make the amount of cylinders used and fuel consumption much better it's not happening. At which point the argument of a modular engine that you can deploy as a 3 cylinder, 4 cylinder, 5 cylinder and 6 cylinder would make more sense. Especially if you can the deactivate cylinders for example. The issue there is it's probably cheaper just to make a full EV instead.

However, it's expensive and don't like the front grill. The Audi, even though down on power to me looks the best and is the least expensive. Do a software upgrade and it would be my car of choice.

  • Im just a fan of all three of these brands. I get the feeling that MB screwed up when they thought MB customers will buy their product no matter what. I can just hear the salesmen now "But my friend this has F1 Tech in it" forgetting that V8 engine is what made the C63 iconic. Audi & BMW also had iconic V8's but were smart enough to not drop too low, and opted for 6 cylinders and still gave it wonderful sounds at the exhaust. It's the little things that can excite a driver, overtaking another vehicle with a few loud claps from the exhaust to congratulate you and make you feel good getting to where you are going. This two litre 4 cylinder offers coughs to let you know that something is wrong, it lost its powerful voice that cripples the experience for the driver. It's not about the F1 Tech, it's about creating a superior driving experience for your customers who are parting with a lot of money. Who remembers the Audi RS5 V8 engine or the BMW M5 V10 whilst they may not respectively be lightening fast or mechanically reliable, they had souls, they had heart and personality that you come to appreciate years after their heyday. I now believe that the C63s V8 (a legend) has now joined that category. MB customers have this to deal with this... Unless MB comes to their senses and bring the V8 back, borrow tech from Mclaren P1 if you have to go the hybrid way. But for goodness sakes! Don't downplay the essential part that a good engine & exhaust sound brings to the driver experience!

That said...if the only complaint is the grille...is that a compliment to how good the car is? No way previous C63 was better than F80 M3/M4...at about 1500kg..that has porsche like dynamics and nothing can match that or beat that..except a porsche.
