2024 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Review // We Drove It Over 1,000 Miles And Um, Yeah.
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG C63 S ($ not yet announced) may look quite familiar, but it has seen some significant changes over the outgoing model. Gone is the V8, and in its stead is the most powerful production four-cylinder engine in the world - aided further by electric power. This pumps up the new AMG C63 S to a massive 671 horsepower and 752 lb ft of torque. However it has some serious weight it needs to handle along with all of that power.
Thomas and James are eager to share their thoughts after spending over a thousand miles behind the wheel in Europe. We hope you enjoy the episode. Subscribe!

That eco-ball is a terrific idea. Eco-consciousness is famously the #1 priority for C63 buyers, so well done AMG for knowing your customers.

Eco-consciousness would be cool even for AMG cars, if it weren't stomach-turning-ly false.
@ikarugaxx3749 if you are trying to be eco conscious, then you don't build a high-performance car period
It's impressive how much weight they can fit into such a small package.
That's some superior German engineering right there! 😀
I don't get it...a Lexus LC500h, a car universally mocked for being too heavy, is the size of a flatbed with this car on the back, yet this car is somehow nearly 200kg heavier. It weighs more than me driving a previous gen E-Class with my ex-girlfriend in the boot!
It’s fine,at least in the us, this car are for young asshole to drive crazy on straight street road anyways so weight doesn’t really matter
@@peterkkk849 I've known a few people who have bought or leased C63's over the years - they were all over 50 - it's not a young persons car usually. @@peterkkk849, there's no young people with $130k. The ones that somehow do aren't driving this thing.

Quite possibly the biggest mistake AMG will ever make. Let’s thank James and Thomas for bringing us a difficult and 100% honest review. Throttle house did for us what AMG could not. They cared for their audience.
Maybe AMG has noticed that they can't keep making v8s. The planet is getting hotter.
Yes, the planet does that. We don’t have the infrastructure for electrics and hybrids only, as well. It would create more problems than it solves.
@@alcrawford4160as if it will make any difference anyway,we have much larger problems than just putting some v8s, tell me,how are batteries made?
@@alcrawford4160 Doesn't mean they had to make it this bad though. Way too heavy, horrible chassis dynamics even for the weight, and they completely squandered the opportunity to provide a hotter version of the 6 cylinder to compete with the M3 (they already have it in the GT53). Then they dropped the 6 entirely taking a massive L to BMW in the engine department now. Anything under the GT63 and AMG GT is an embarrassment at this point.
@@commonmockery1074problems spark innovation. It’s not ideal to have the product before the infrastructure, but there is a solution to every problem

Thats crazy that merc didnt even manage ti use the hybrid to fill in the turbo lag power gap. Thats like one of the main benefits of hybridising a turbo engine 😅
Bruv! Like I've never see a hybrid engine still suffer turbo lag, what's then the point of said electric engine outside of a faster 0-60 and eco mode
@xelaander8429 because the turbo lag on that 2l 4cyl is insane. Its also why it looses every drag race against it's competitors (a45s vs rs3 and m240i for example).
They literally have an electric turbo And haven’t put it in for this
It's an inline 4 making big power. The turbo must be huge, so long spool times. I think this car suffers from trying to use tech combinations that aren't there yet, if it had a lighter battery and more powerful electrical motors to fill the gap it would be better. Or if it just made less power from the 4 cylinder it could have a smaller turbo and still be a great drive.
@@chrxx4327the point of the hybrid should be that it is full power below the boost threshold then tapers off when the engine has power. this doesn't do that

The emissions of the v8 is what they fixed
I wouldn't say objective. Not at all. But it is a thorough and fair review. I think the car will grow on people, but at the same token I don't think AMG is moving in the right direction with the utilization of the 4 cylinder in a c63. c43 sure, if they could have pumped 500 horsepower out of it. But it still loses to the older b58 in it's current iteration. And barely edges out a W against an S5.

The trouble is a 4 pot just doesn’t feel special, it’s the big engines of old German cars that stood them above the crowd. The engine is now no more glorious than that of a golf.
Yeah I’d claim the engine to be much more important than the actual hp. I’d take the old one detuned to 370hp over this
I think it would've been better if they had used the old 3 liter V6 from the C43 and then slap the hybrid system, that way it sounds a lot better, has some soul, but also manage the weight better, plus the naming would be somewhat better, 6 for V6, 3 for 3 liter instead of a 2 liter 4 cylinder
Wouldn't really work. That 6 cylinder is factory assembled, not hand assembled, which is an even bigger nono for the c63 name. Any top AMG needs to be hand assembled, even the a45. I hate that they couldn't make it at least a 6 cylinder, but thought that maybe one benefit of the 4 banger would be the lower weight. But Mercedes for some reason decided to make this as heavy as a full size SUV. What were they thinking?
bypassing the obvious longterm reliability issues, handling issues, and questionable interior. i think an easy fix for them would be to make the suspension a little better toward spirited driving but most importantly make the 4 cylinder invisible. really dig in to the electrification aspect and get rid of all the sound improvements etc.. just make it really fast and handle just good enough while hearing minimal engine noise
This is the result of what AI would think a car should be like if you gave it instructions to build a hybrid, 2.0T, 680HP, luxury sedan, that used to have a monster under the hood that roared so loudly it would wake the city up in shock, and every car guy would know an AMG just drove by, lol. So here AI, build me that car. The car:
So either M3 or Giulia QV are the main choices for driving enthusiasts in this class.
Or possibly the IS 500. Yes, the Lexus will not corner as a German car would; but, the sound and the feel of the naturally aspirated 5L engine may be satisfying enough to an enthusiast. I am very disappointed with Mercedes and will be switching to another brand.
@@arthurcatalanotto1151 I actually thought about this car for a while. But it just sounds like it's not nearly the driving fun of the Alfa. Gear box sounds like a nightmare in the IS.
@1:50 That Star Wars reference killed me!
Great video guys. I was seriously considering this model, I think I’ll drive the BMW and go from there.
I hope they sell like 10 cars before production is pulled. It is aesthetically pleasing though.
Seems like you guys had a rough trip. Thanks for taking one for the team 👊
Not being shy with your opinion when auto makers put out absolute crap like this is why you guys are still the best in the business.
His description of sand couldn’t be more perfect😂
As a BMW fanboy. Keep it up Mercedes! 😂🎉🎉🎉
they will be doing the same tho
Yeah, it makes me laugh too.
Yeah, it makes me laugh too.
@@twmatica The next gen M3 will be fully electric. They will just skip the Hybrid nonsense on that. The next M5 will have a hybrid powertrain but at least it will keep a V8 and it's a bigger car all around so it can get away with additional weight more easily than the C-Class/M3.
As a Porsche fanboy, lol at both brands.
I was hesitantly optimistic about this new C63, but so sad to see all the expected flaws came to pass. I've had 3 W204 C63s and currently have a W205 C63S, and seeing this just cements the fact Mercedes will never make a car like these again. They've really taken out all the fun, raucousness, and excitement from the car. To anyone who hasn't tried driving or seeing a W204 C63 in person, the 6.2L is hilarious and will make you question how Mercedes ever put such a crazy car out there.
I have a dream that one day Mercedes will wake up and realize their mistakes and then put a M159 in their c63/e63. Then have a supercharged variant. Hey, I can dream right? I don't see why they couldn't go that route. You would think after all these years they could figure out how to make it "pollute" less and be more efficient. I'm holding onto my w211 63 with both hands.
@@bobvance- Great choice sir, the W211 E63 was the pinnacle of styling imo.
i heard they will bring v8 back to 63 in 2026😅😅
Not happening. At least not with the c63/e63.@@qupeter1224
@@qupeter1224 AMG themselves said the only V8 will be present today and for later releases are G wagon, S-class, E-class and GT-class and all of them have to be the highest end of the trim except G-wagon, which comes in any trim (EQG doesnt count for obvious reason) The funniest thing is, reports filtering in from local dealers according to German media, allegedly records "close to zero" sales for the C63SE Performance💀💀💀
The 204 platform and, of course any mb with the 157 were absolute beast. They will be missed...
Nice! You guys found where they filmed that part of Attack of the Clones! Amazing reference joke. 😂
I have a w205 c63s…. And I’ll just put hundreds of thousands of miles/klm on it and rebuild the motor before ever touching e-poop. The future of cars is absolutely soulless. Lastly , most entertaining reviews , don’t ever change .
I applaud you for keeping yours. I'll def have one in the stable soon.
same
If I was a Mercedes engineer I would be in tears after watching this. We would have to recall all of em n start over. Dam MB u messed up.
I think the engineers all knew it was going to be crap.
Thank you guys for being Honest and yes we need the V8 back and lose a lot of weight
Last year I was a the nordschleife and spoke with one of the Amg test drivers for this hybrid c63 and they gave the advice to buy the old one😉
Throttle House's humor knows no bounds 😂 always amazing 🙌
I drop a like for the “quiet reflection” and the sand quote! Marvelous!!! You guys are killing it!
When are you guys gonna review the new AMG S63 E Performance? I’ve beeeen waiting 😢
the past months vids have been insane
I used to think of the C63 as the German muscle car, moreso than even most of the M cars. The W204 just growled in a way that no other car really reproduced. Now it's a hybrid turbo 4 banger. If I wanted fuel efficiency I would get a Prius.
