New Mercedes-AMG C63 S: Everything you need to know!
The time has finally arrived for Mat to get up close & personal with the new Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance!
Now there’s no debating that the previous AMG C63 S was one of the best-looking performance saloons on the market, and the new model is no exception! A number of design changes have been made, with a newly designed front bumper that comes fitted with some huge air intakes, while on the bonnet there’s also an all-new outlet vent.
The good looks continue around the back, too, with a new deeper rear bumper coupled with an AMG-exclusive diffuser. There’s also a bootlip spoiler, coupled with the option to add carbon fibre trim, should you so wish.
So it all sounds pretty good, right? Well, there’s one key change that you AMG fanboys & fangirls may not like… The V8 has GONE, and it’s been replaced by a 2-litre 4-cylinder hybrid!! Don’t worry though, it’s not all bad. The power output has increased by 150hp, with the engine and electric motor combining to deliver 680hp and 1,020Nm of torque! It can also fly to 60mph in just 3.4 seconds.

Have to agree on the weight especially when compared to its predecessor. But, as the Mercedes guy has said, the people who buy these cars are rich people who want luxury and acceleration to show off. What they don't want is a lighter oversteery rear wheel drive car like the predecessor.

Hands down the most brutally honest review of a new product model in front of the product manager that I've ever seen. With the last gen C63, Merc was clearly looking to go head-to-head with the M3. Perhaps they discovered M3 buyers weren't seriously cross-shopping the C63, and the car was too 'track focused' for the legacy C-Class buyers. So they switched back to the tried-and-true formula of "Our car makes more power". As noted by many others, most buyers won't even realize they're hauling around 300+ extra kilos.

Well done Mat for being honest and frank with the AMG product manager, it's always nice to see a car journalist sticking to their views and NOT kissing the arse of a brand. Also credit to the AMG guy, he dealt with the push back well and wasn't afraid to have a laugh with Mat and also keep to the typical marketing speak which he'd have to do. Good video, it would be nice to see more with Mat and the car designers in future.
I agree, I was highly curious if this video was going to demonstrate Mat with the ‘stick of truth’ showing how exaggerated the exhausts are on the new C63s given how Mercedes have had the them blocked off for show in their previous models. Glad he called them out on this one.

The AMG guy was really a good sport about everything. A lot of company reps would try way too hard to argue but AMG guy acknowledged the reasonable criticisms.
Everyone talking about how much they respect Matt for being straight forward with the seller/product manager. I loved Matt's honesty and his direct remarks, but I also think that the Mercedes guy should get way more credit/more love and less hatred as he's been extremely professional. He's done an incredible job at representing the brand and his involvment in the video was a great addition. IMO.

Design wise this is the Best Looking C Class ever build for me. Down side is that the Rear Arches aren't Wider then standard. It's a must for me actually. And I would go for the Saloon in Silver definitely really Beautiful. 👌🏼 😍

100% agree - it was all about having a loud and shouty engine, and smoking rear tyres. Europe's muscle car. 4 exhausts - 1 for each pair of cylinders in a V8.

One of the main reasons I bout the old C63S due to V8 engine and the pure sound it generate. The satisfaction you feel when you start it up in the morning is some thing to remember. We gonna miss it no matter how they sugarcoats it.

Ummmm… cars are better than ever thanks to the fact that we can add weight and counteract the impact of that extra weight with raw power and have these slick saloons with awesome features while still getting better performance than just one decade old sports cars/ super cars
What hyper car made 760 …… none 😂 HyperCars were always 900+ and much much much faster. There are 4cylinder and 6 cylinder cars making more power than any amg v8 has ever made. No such thing as too powerful for its motor size.
I love light driver experienced focus cars, but this is a C63. They have always been about excessive power and comfort. Shame about the tiny engine though :(

Exactly! The cars are evolving TOO MUCH in power and size/weight. This is not right. A 2022 C Class is way more powerful than a E or S class from 15 years ago. Same with 3 Series comparing to 5 Series. What will happen with the cars in 2035? Bet they will discontinue a lot of models, it will rest a few ones.

Wouldn’t want a matte with glossy color it’s just really wrong at least if the second color is matte then it will be normal or to be a dry or glossy carbon finish since you can’t go wrong with carbon

One thing everyone is forgetting to mention is the cost of maintenance for this car. With all the new technology and the hybrid system, it will cost a fortune to fix issues given that performance mechanics aren’t used to them. Curious how reliable they’ve made this car.

That's exactly my thought, there will be loads of buyers, but they will never use it's potential. Another missed opportunity for AMG was to ditch the batteries all together and use lighter supercapacitors, which would reduce the weight by a 100kgs at least.
It wont be reliable, most of this is bespoke first gen tech. Its a disposable product meant for modern day rich people who have no appreciation of longevity.

Let's hope Matt doesn't scare away this guy. It would be a nice change that someone is willing to take hard questions and criticism and still do these kind of interviews. Over in the US none of the marketing directors will take hard questions nor the criticism. They'll run away scared. So I hope this AMG rep is willing to come back in the future and take the criticism or possibly stick it to Matt and say hey we fixed this. Complain about it now!
