Exactly. They could've even increased the horsepower/torque in the A-Class and its siblings (CLA/GLA) to the same spec as the C-Class, so 476 hp and 545 Nm. BUT...for the C63, if they were going for downsizing anyways, they could've taken the inline-6 and worked on it, pushing the horsepower to the 500-550-hp mark, then combine it with the hybrid system. People would still be mad because the V8 is gone, but the shock would be less than what they've done by replacing it with a 4-cylinder.
From thunderous V8's to glorified 4 cylinders. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
And remember: It's not the EU's fault. Mercedes CHOSE to not get the V8 Euro 7 ready!
Exactly. There are rumors here in germany that the C Class will get it's V8 back, either as Facelift or PreFacelift, because of numerous sending backs of "unsatisfied" customers with the I4 Engine.

The reasoning is wrong though, it's not because of Euro7 or Emissions, it's becuase "using" a BS reason to sell cheaper cars for the exact same High Price. They saw the CLA 45 AMG & AMG s sale numbers and thought people liked the engine, but it's definitely not the engine, it's Price/Performance. As for engines, people rather would have a C400/C43 Engine, without question.

@@Alexdbre You're late. These rumors were denied months ago by the AMG CEO. It won't happen. And noone really wants this car luckily. I once used to be a Mercedes fan but the way the current CEOs handled these companies (MB and AMG) is just ridiculous. If you would've told me I'll buy a BMW 5 years ago I would have laughed at you but in all honesty BMW currently is just the way better brand.
The 4 cylinder C63 is just ridiculous. This car is the beginning of the end for Mercedes. Competitors like Porsche and BMW are laughing their heads off.

@@notype4838 it should, in theory. AMG made the C63's hood longer, originally to make room for more heat exchangers for the hybrid system. Height shouldn't be an issue, as these are relatively similar to an an E-class.

People who try to justify the change to a 4 cylinder plug-in hybrid because of the horsepower gain, don't realise it also weighs 500kg more.

Problem with this car is that it weighs more than an M5, having less room inside than an M5 while costing the same as an M5. Mercedes messed up with this one.

Well, if you put aside the sound, the 2.0 turbo (or perhaps audis 2.5 turbo 5 cyl) would give those oldschool big displacement machines a run for their money acceleration wise, especially with a simple stage 1 tune. Another positive aspect of a smaller engine is also the weight -> lighter nose = better turning. In the end, small turbo engines are dying too because of all this electric bullshit.
Audi's 5 cylinder 2.5 would smash your old tank, you like sound? Why not buying Ferrari V12...oh you are poor, i see@@MMPICT
Legend says a C63 E-Performance owner once met a W204 C63 on the Autobahn accelerating in front of him. He wrote down his number and regularly calls him to hear the engine.
That 6.2L V8 made me fall in love with the car the second I heard it IRL
Considering the fact that you only get 576 constant horsepower and 671 for 10 seconds, this could’ve easily been achieved with the V8 or V6 with less weight and good mpg.

Finally an honest review on this car. It's got great performance, but it has lost some of it's magic. I was shocked to hear how bad the fuel consumption was during this testdrive! It does look the business tho, holy crap what a beautiful car to look at!

I wouldnt call the performance great as the old c63s with the v8 had the same power/weight ratio because this car is so heavy. So i dont see the point of the complicated hybrid system when its not even economical. Seems super pointless and heavy for no reason.

@@KK001 The main reason I said the performance was good is because of how much faster this is from 100-200 compared to the M3. I didn't mean dynamic handling, I know it's too heavy for a racetrack.

Not only would I rather have an M3 Touring over this, but I'd actually rather have an M340i Touring too, something that's literally half the price, and on paper has 300bhp less. The 4cyl is a real shame, but that horrid cheap, plastic, tacky interior in all new MBUX fitted Mercedes cars is the worst. Along with a laggy OS that looks like its from a 2013 Samsung Tablet.
seems like you havent been inside a new merc, aint no plastic in that interior...its made of metall on all the silver parts, almost everything is leather wrapped and the carbon fiber is real. The OS isnt more laggy then anything else, i find it very smooth and super great actually. 2013 samsung tablet? screen is same quality like audis and bmw if not better.
@@henrik5360 lol what - MBUX models all have plastic. My 2021 A class is a piece of shit inside. The A220, A250e and new C300 I've driven, all the same, put any kind of pressure on any of the dash and it'll sqeak and bend. It's plastic buddy.
@@Shaggy12321 yeah i guess you only drive the budget Mercs, A klass... maybe if you add some leather package and stuff you will think its nicer. I only drive E-klass and GLEs. but if you think A klass is plastic, try a Audi a1 or a3, thats pure chinese plastic, same with any japanese car... Sure BMW do have pretty solid interior in terms of how rigid everything is but its not like you press your A klass vent cover hard when you use your car.
The interior in this c63 is all made out of Carbon fiber and second of all the amg c63 is faster then a m3 comp and m4 comp this car has 200 more horsepower than the m4 but its slower then the m5cs which had the v8 twin turbo
It would be interesting to see the sales numbers on this 4 cylinder. I heard that they are disappointing, but it would be cool to see a number.

It was the first review I've seen from them and other reviewers of this car that starts with... So the issues of this car are...
Max hitting the nail exactly on how i feel about my hybrid. Its fast, its fun, its everything except the feeling. The feeling becomes somewhat fake with that battery. Positive side is that the car is always on edge, ready to go. And Start & Stop works alot better.

They should have added this engine to the C 43, without the hybrid. That would have been okey for a C 43. The extra 500kg hybrid is not needed or wanted.

I remember the days when we used to bash BMW for moving to 3l engine from the 4.0 N/A on the E92 M3...now we've come to love that exact 3l engine from M3 when Mercedes gives us 2l on AMG's...
There is a big difference, the M3 was a V8 for one generation. Before that it was a I-6. The C63 was always a V8.
BMW was always known for their Inline 6 engines.

In theory, the powertrain setup sounds like a cool concept for a car that is quick but also efficient. But when I hear about the fuel consuption of that configuration, I think the R&D VP at AMG should have pulled the plug on it before during testing already..

Would have loved to see how it performs when the battery is empthy bcs seems like this could be a real-life scenario when taking a few-hour trip. I could even imagine that it can't hit 282km/h anymore.
The 450 HP from the 4 Cyl engine is enough to reach the 270 kmh (GPS) top speed. The acceleration will be a lot slower of course.

I actually like this car, if you ignore the C63 Nametag. It has good performance, I like the concept of the quickly regenerating and releasing batteries and it looks nice.
Yea and ignore the c63 price tag that comes with it. Maybe if it was 60,000 euro.
It's what I thought from day one. If they hard marketed this as a C-x or C50 or something wholly separate from '63', it might not have ruffled so many feathers and they could proudly point to all the technology integration and software tuning. The '63' could have had the hand-me-down CLS' inline-6.
Honestly if they put it on the market with a different name and lower price, it might have actually sold better. But this car is just trying to be something that its not, even if it is faster than V8.. C63 shouldnt be hybrid 4 cyl..
Yeah I absolutely love this car, the part they messed up was calling it a C63 honestly. It looks amazing, looks really practical being a hybrid and has insane performance, but its' name makes it sound like it should be a V8.
I think you're forgetting the fact that the C63 badge is simply the most powerful version of that particular generation, and it easily lives up to that. A new car with 680hp is not going to cost 60,000 euros. I don't know where you live to think such nonsense. @@matejzraly5433
Imagine trying to sort out issues with the complicated drive train in 10 years from now. No one would touch this car once it's out of its warranty. The M156 issues with headbolts, wearing camshafts etc seem like child's play to rectify compared to the issues this car may have later down the line. I would find the lowest mileage W204/5 c63 and keep the spare change for maintenance.
I think cars are quickly becoming disposable appliances, unfortunately.

i converted the numbers to around 8 miles per gallon. Same fuel consumption as a regular car but without the horsepower.

It just occurred to me that the turbo might be laggy, where the electric assist should give it instant boost, because of the Euro 7 compliance. I think for the same reason, modern engines are designed with rev hanging, to reduce unburned fuel in the emissions, this might be boost-ramp limited for the same or similar reason.

I own a 2020 E63s AMG and love it, but will never buy an AMG 4 banger. Will buy the 2024/25 BMW M5 as my next car. Will keep the E63s of course. First time buying anything but an AMG V8😢😢
