NEW Audi RS4 Avant Competition: A BMW M3 Touring Rival? | Henry Catchpole - The Driver’s Seat
In the world of fast estate cars, everyone is talking about the new BMW M3 Touring and Mercedes’ newly unveiled hybrid four-cylinder AMG C63 Wagon. This has clearly annoyed Audi, which has arguably been king of practical performance ever since the RS2, which it developed with Porsche back in the 1990s.
So, to redress the balance, Audi has poached a bit of BMW’s naming strategy and produced the RS4 Avant Competition. Despite its twin-turbo V6 not having more power or torque this RS4 is quicker, doing 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds, and faster, with a maximum speed of 180mph. But even more interestingly it promises to be greater fun in the corners, thanks to a recalibrated quattro Sport differential, new steering, stiffer anti-roll bars and a lovely set of three-way adjustable coilovers.
This new RS Sport Suspension Pro allows the car to be dropped by up to 20mm which lends it an incredibly aggressive stance and should be great on track. But the worry is that it will also compromise the ride quality on the road. After all this is meant to be a practical and useable performance car that you could taking shopping when you’re not setting lap times.
To find out if it’s an improvement or now just a bit niche, Henry Catchpole puts the latest fast Audi Avant through its paces around town, in the hills and on the amazing Ascari race track in Southern Spain. He also puts a dog in the back. We hope you enjoy the film!

Just bought my first Audi , 2019 RS3. Boi i gotta say, once you go Audi you ain’t driving other cars. It’s balance between sporty and comfort. The perfect daily drive, the car that you can bring your family to the cottage and also driving on the B road with your boi in the weekend. I’ve own 2015 A45 before and it no way close to the RS3. Imagine driving the 2022 RS4 must be a dream

This is brilliant -- this may have finally let me forgive this car for dropping the V8. So unexpected too -- much better than an SUV too
I don't have a tv, but I swear content like this makes me really consider buying one.
Speaking of Ascari, I have the ‘21 RS5 Sportback Ascari LE… the dynamic suspension has true difference between the modes (read wife doesn’t complain when in comfort mode). So, the coil-overs are not a plus here. The dynamic steering is also good so meh on that change. Guys this is a sport wagon not an STO. What the RS needs is a thicker rear sway and another 100 hp, 150 lb.ft and no forward resonators. All this we can do for a few grand aftermarket.

Audi is gonna release the b10 next year right? So the next gen rs4 might be more comparable in terms of sheer power to the c63s e performance and the new bmw 3 series touring
Audi stopped developing petrol engines altogether, so chances are the next generation cars are hybrid or fully electric.
Quite sad to learn from this video that the Ascari are defunct. Looking at Wikipedia that was in 2010! Just remember their car being featured on Top Gear and just how amazing it was. One of the best cars ever to feature, quick and absolutely planted.
So happy it is NOT sold in the US. Because if it was, I would be $100k or so poorer, happier sure but also poorer.
I’d be upset if I couldn’t have those seats, they look incredible, strange decision to not supply to UK, perhaps Brexit is to blame. Otherwise a fitting finale for the B9, looks so purposeful on KW suspension.
