It's a 4 cylinder crankshaft! That grinding machine looks very new and expensive. Nice to see a modern machine for a change!
Third world Country Hello
Какая разница, 4-6, это плюс минус 2.🤣🤣🤣
@@bobhenry6159 You don't get it.
@@bobhenry6159 two pistons moves so fast, as we don't see it! 🤣🤣🤣
I just kind of wonder with all the ingenuity these guys show between them they could build something. Something extraordinary something called a work bench.
It all boils down to economics. A workbench in the middle of the small workshop they have will restrict their movements. On the other hand, given that they have enough money for them to afford to get a bigger workshop still wouldn't be wise since that would jack up the price of their labor leaving their customers unable to afford their services. That small workshop would probably only be enough for a trash bin in the west. But for them, it's an all-purpose space.
@@edwinso8173 : Rubbish. The lack of workbenches is a cultural thing. As in:- Dad never had a bench, and his dad before him never had a bench. So son simply doesn't think of having a bench. With a bench, which would last a lifetime, they could work more efficiently, saving time and providing a better quality service at less cost. It doesn't matter where you are, rich or poor country - time is ALWAYS money, and tools and benches are an investment. If benches were a waste of money, you wouldn't see them in any country.
@@keithammleter3824 I did not say a workbench is a waste of money. I said it would restrict their movement if they'd put a bench in such a small workshop. So for them to have a bench, they have to get a bigger workshop. And that would mean money, to be passed down to their customers who wouldn't be able to afford their services anymore. So, it is not the price of building a bench but the money needed to get a bigger workshop that could comfortably accommodate a workbench without restricting their movements. Therefore, it's economics. I should know, I'm from a third-world country and my father used to have a benchless shop.
@@keithammleter3824 Estoy plenamente de acuerdo con su observación.
@@edwinso8173 Same thing. Money for a work bench directly, or money indirectly for the space. You missed my point - all things are relative, and if a bench (or the space for one) pays of in the long run in advanced countries, it will pay off in third world counties as well. Having the right tools saves time and time is money. I don't much accept the space argument anyway. Someone squatting down on the ground working on the ground takes nearly enough room as someone standing at a bench. You see cultural influences in every country - that is people are too ignorant to see outside ideas. For example, USA people refuse to use the metric system - they just won't try it, while every other country in the world that used to be non-metric knows for experience that the SI metric saves time and reduces mistakes. I learn another example: I always thought weeding around my house was a lot of backbreaking work. Then a Dutch immigrant moved next door and showed me his imported "dutch hoe" - a thing common in Holland but unknown here. I was so impressed that I got my welder out and copied it, and then another neighbour wants one.

Crank rolling around in the dirt hurts my soul.
I watched tons of those videos and i got used to lots of their working methods over time, but every time they drop the parts into the sandy dirt my stomach starts to cramp 😁 and in my head i hear the sound of sand in a bearing.
Да уж
now imagine that this refurbished crank will be transported same way backwards and with sand installed in engine...
Only the dirt? About the registering before grinding? My master in 80's: work on engines is a very clean and precision work, if you don't like this there are cows to care. Today on youtube: 😨😨😨😨

Good grief. I was employed (as the engineer) for a Caterpillar dealer. Cat watches its dealers so no dealer will damage Cat's reputation. If a Cat man discovered someone working on a crankshaft in the dirt, the guy doing it would be instantly sacked. Probably the foreman sacked for letting him. Probably the dealer would lose its dealership. But this definitely is not a dealer and it's not a Cat crankshaft anyway. (4 cyl and not 6 too). Where I worked, the floor was so clean you eat off it, and nobody would put a crankshaft on the floor anyway - it would have to rest on wood (clean wood). I know that our competitors (Cummins, Detroit/MTU etc) are no different. Working in the dirt like that means a probability of grit in the oil passages. Most likely left there to chew up bearings as soon as the rebuilt engine is started and the oil flow pumps the grit out. They probably wash the shaft again after grinding, but you can't be certain no grit remains in the passages. The machinist consistently used his micrometer incorrectly, winding it in by the barrel and not by the clutched end knob provided for the purpose. This destroys accuracy. The clutch ensures a consistent low load on the micrometer threads giving a consistent true reading and making wear negligible. If I saw an apprentice bypassing the clutch like that, I would have him on the mat and he would be left in no doubt that he committed a sin. If I saw an older worker doing that I would sack him. It is however a not uncommon error by untrained amateurs.
When in Rome , as they say in France .
Whether the crankshaft is placed on the floor or on a clean workbench, after grinding, the oil passages will be filled with grinding wheel abrasive, so it is assumed that it will be washed before reassembly. Despite appearances, the final result could be very similar to that made in an official CAT workshop, but at a price 4 or 5 times lower. Just a check and accurate measurement could tell us if the result is good, the rest are just opinions.
@@paolomonti2754 You are correct i have ground many crankshafts in a uk workshop and i dont see the engineer in this film doing much wrong . I would say that he takes pride in his work as his grinder is well cleaned and looked after and his coolant is nice and clean . I have seen much worse in UK workshops

I’m glad to see at the other end of the world how skilled skilled you are!
Being a Toolmaker, I struggle watching precision parts being worked on in the Dirt, Also watching the man using the crankshaft grinder, I never seen him look at the dial when he feeds in the grinding wheel.
When I ground crankshafts size was determined while actually grinding through the use of a flying micrometer since tolerances of 0.0002" needed to be achieved.Slight pressures on the steady will change the cut including producing out-of-round.
@@bb21again.67 I also wonder he polished the journals after grinding.

And end up with a Dodgy big end .
Why don't you have some tables to work on instead of working in the sand.
Its all part of the drama of these videos. The more comments they get about appalling working conditions, the better the ratings and consequent earnings from KZhead. If everything was neat and clean, there'd be no mystery to it, and viewers would go back to watching "Ocean Sailing" videos.
All these would be a lot more interesting if they provided some explanation /translation of what they’re doing. That grinder/lath looks pretty expensive tho!!👏👏👏👏
Before they reground it to get rid of any out-of-round due to wear, they crack tested it - that's what the white power was for. When you hit it, any crack becomes visible as an oil line.
They're rolling engine parts around in the dirt, then doing some machiing to try make everything work
put crankshaft grinding into the KZhead search engine and I'm certain you'll find all the information you desire.
They used the dirt for grinding compound !
То есть, я напрасно ждал, что вот шас будут пристукивать булыжником с помощью провалки, и индикаторы часового типа у них всё таки есть.
what is the machine type? didn´t see it. working for a cnc- grinding machine maker in Europe. But this is really impressive, great job how long do you need to rework one crankshaft like this 4 cyclinder?
Thin oil, powder and hammer used to detect any cracks, an old technique that predates modern methods by many many decades if not millennia.
I work in a steel forge where we make CAT cranks. I don`t do it but they magnetize the crank and pour magnetic ink over it. Stuck in a dark room all day looking through yellow glasses with a UV lamp.
I`ll post a video of my works. :) kzhead.info/sun/jaupn5ysgXyCqKM/bejne.html

I wonder how expensive are tables or workbenches that you have to put the crankshaft in the dirt?
They just think is ok to do that. Ive seen many videos where other mechanics do use work benches to work or clean parts.

Pero en estos videos nos demuestran una vez mas lo equivocada que puede estar la gente y la gran profesionalidad que existe. ole por ese tornero, me ha parecido de lo mas profesional que he visto.
So painful to see that crank in the dirt. If they didn't get lathes on a base, I think they would be on the ground too. They could double their GNP with a few thousand benches.
You've undoubtedly seen a few of these videos, it just has to work, you're not getting perfection here. I think as a machinist, we all shoot for perfection in an imperfect world, but it feels good when we succeed. 😎
