  • Regarding the "No named items" thing, it seems the point is to keep the ambiguity most of the game has, and also accommodate for the infinite nature of the world. All things you can find (With the exception of the dragon egg) can be found multiple times, so it wouldn't make as much sense to get a special named crossbow that just so happens to have multiple identical copies. Minecraft is also very vague about what all of the things in its world are (Every structure is named very straightforwardly after what it is, instead of any of them having specific names) and names could possibly lessen the mystery or open-endedness. All in all, these are some pretty solid game design principles, the kind I don't see a lot of people take into account when giving suggestions or criticisms to the game. Of course I kind of wish some of them were more strict when it came to implementation (Because we totally don't have a huge array of items that have exactly one use and nothing else, right? And the game never devolves into mindless searching either...)

    @TheKnewGreg@TheKnewGreg13 күн бұрын
    • Yeah, I saw multiple mods with named items/mobs/structures, and in an open world it becomes bland very quickly and ends up being an even bigger inventory problem than vanilla. Vanilla doesn't always follow the principles it's supposed to follow, but a lot of things are much worse when they don't even try

      @leochangesnames@leochangesnames12 күн бұрын
    • They also did say that those rules are not set in stone, and they probably broke few with World Edit on Bedrock, and automated crafting (which is fine btw)

    • These would be good principles in Mojang didn't just disregard half of them. For example, "New features should be respectful of existing ones". Ironically, it shows a minecart, which, as a mode of transportation became irrelevant with the elytra, along with horses, boats, and ender pearls. It also seems like the mace is just going to kill the sword and axe as weapons. Then the very next page says "Items should be multi-purpose" as if every item from the past 4 updates didn't have 1 or 2 features at most. Copper is one of the most useful materials in real life, but you only need 6 ingots in minecraft to make every item that uses it. Not to mention every armor trim, pottery sherd, and banner pattern that only exists to clog your inventory. Then the part where it says the F3 menu is bad, and there should be solutions in-game for these details. And I agree, these features SHOULD be in-game... but they're not. The only time a solution was even suggested was the Glare, which was instantly ruled out of the mob vote BECAUSE the F3 menu exists.

The amount of fantasy and stat information from his perspective is really so cool but we don’t really see much of those aspects in MC updates of recent years. Sure we did get the Warden, Sniffer and other such things but nothing really implying this game is keeping the fantasy vibe. A lot of the newer content has been towards realism and taking inspiration from real life things rather than some more fantastical or even mythical books/literature. Not saying it’s bad but I wish they took more creative liberties as they are INCREDIBLE at it. The Warden, Nether Update and mechanics like the Auto Crafting are insanely well thought out and I want more of that!!

    • @LloydTheZephyrian There's more to rules than obedience, my friend. This is a guideline, and just like with all art forms, rules can be broken when you have a good enough justification. Rules in creative projects only serve to reiterate what had worked, not to enforce what should be. Maybe it's because most people here are more familiar with stem or policy based "rules" but artistic rules are entirely different. With art, you can find a way to challenge those rules when there's a good reason for it, and if it doesn't work, you go back to those rules to see what went wrong. Rules in art is important and some rules are followed in the greatest masterpieces, and also rules were broken with them at the same time. Minecraft is not some bank or government where rules are king, it is a long term creative project at the end of the day, and as I had mentioned, rules to creativity serve to challenge than to enforce.

I forgot I was playing in HARD difficulty (I’d switched to see if I could get more mobs to spawn in my spawner, and never switched back), wasn’t even thinking about the zombie/husk spawns in a desert, and was focused on getting some emeralds from a different village. Much later, I returned to the village and looked for residents. I was confused for a long time; I believe I found one shepard, and one zombie villager hiding in a house. The biggest issue was a bunch of the doors were gone… why didn’t the houses have doors? I eventually sorted out what had happened, cured the zombie villager, put new doors on the houses, dropped my difficulty back to easy, and repopulated the village, but that moment when I realized what I’d done was… not pleasant! 😫

    • @@rainbowdash3419 We got promised a release date many, many months ago for this movie only for it to not come out when it was promised. This was due to the movie makers having absolutely no idea behind how or what they would make a Minecraft movie into. If you have no passion or vision behind creating a movie, the only motivating factor that is left is money. Now I will say that having Jack Black and the new developments for the MC movie does look promising. But I still highly doubt this is going to be a passionate project, as they’re still choosing A-List celebrities to act in it, which is definitely cash-grab behaviour. Please don’t rope me in with whatever stereotypes you’ve seen online recently of calling video-game movies bad for no reason, as I am an individual with my own specific reasoning for my beliefs. I mainly think it will just be a cash grab because judging by their casting and past descriptions of the plot, it doesn’t seem like they value the original fan culture all that much.

    @mikeonthecomputer@mikeonthecomputer13 күн бұрын
    • if you've used an editor of any kind, it is very clear that creative mode is not one. It's closer to an experimentation ground. The tools are still too limited to count as such. An editor is when you reach the level of the WorldEdit and Axiom mods, which add a significant amount on top of creative mode to actually be practical. But you do have a point, much of this design bible is oriented to survival mode and how designs inside and outside of minecraft will often riff of that default player experience.
