    • I understand where you're coming from, but there was a few factors that made me decide to include it regardless of its current relevancy. Even though its one of the most popular mods made, a huge portion of the player base has never touched it, and probably never would've if it wasn't just recently updated (an update that came out not long after I finished writing the initial script of the video). At the time of scripting the video, hardly anyone was actually talking about what the Aether mod included, rather any discussion would just be thinking back on its existence or referencing it through memes. My thought process behind "forgotten" wasn't necessarily "mods that no one remembers at all because they were hardly significant", but more "mods that once were a staple to mod the game with that have now fallen out of the public interest". Of course with the re-release of the Aether on current versions, it's not as forgotten in that sense as it was, but it's impact on the modding scene and relevancy to the topic made it a priority to cover in my mind at the time :))

  • Current main developer of Dimensional Doors here. I just was made aware of your video. The segment of Dimensional Doors was nice and I like your style of animated character. I just wanted to clarify a few things that are different in the most recent versions. - Most doors can be placed directly on a rift as they all can have a dimensional door variant. - Gold doors no longer give you a dungeon. Its was debug way to test dungeons easier. The dungeon door is now a stone door. - We have a crafting block for a lot of items and block called the Tessellating Loom. There is a lot more planned and has been for years! Oh and here is probably the best part for pack creators. Almost EVERYTHING is datapackable. The functionality of doors, dungeons, and even limbo decay. Still need on guides for this stuff though.

    • @waterpicker6879 Ayy! Since you're the main dev, I might as well make you aware of what @DonnaPinciot has said in the comments already. They mentioned that they miss a previous feature of the Rift Blade. I'll go ahead and paste a section of their comment here: ~ For Dimensional Doors, I miss the original function of the Rift Blade. It let you charge to open a temporary rift anywhere in the world, leading to an isolated pocket at that position. It left a temporary rift at the position you entered, where the door would normally come out in a regular pocket. However, you didn't have to use that rift to come out. You could charge-open another rift with the Rift Blade, and it would send you out at the relative coordinates of that rift in your original dimension. ~

It left a temporary rift at the position you entered, where the door would normally come out in a regular pocket. However, you didn't _have_ to use that rift to come out. You could charge-open another rift with the Rift Blade, and it would send you out at the relative coordinates of that rift in your original dimension. This let you do things like come up to a wall, open a rift next to it, go inside, walk past the where the wall is in reality (Maybe pillaring up a little to match terrain) then open another rift inside that pocket to escape at your new relative coordinates, letting you walk past the wall without walking past it. It was like Miegakure: You come to an impassable obstacle, then utilize the 4th dimension to walk _around_ that obstacle, and come back.

    @DonnaPinciot@DonnaPinciot22 күн бұрын
    • You can still do that just not with the blade, if you place a wooden dimensional door in a pocket dimension made by an iron door, the exit will appear at those relative coordinates.

      @codebracker@codebracker21 күн бұрын
    • @@codebracker Huh, that's good to know! I'm still sad that the blade has lacked this feature for so long, though. I think the last it had it was back in 1.6.4? Since it was in my first experience with it, it's such a nostalgic part of the mod to me, but it hasn't even been a config option in any version since.

    • @@DonnaPinciot it was a glitch I believe, since making rifts generally costs a stabilised fabric and the sword could just make an infinite amount for free. If the functionality returned it would probably have to be an endgame tool

      @codebracker@codebracker21 күн бұрын
    • @@codebracker It wasn't a glitch, it's just how the blade worked before. It even had a tooltip explaining it! The rifts the blade opened didn't leave behind actual fractal rift things when they closed, they were just a single-use doorway to/from a new pocket dimension.

  • dimensional doors was in the RAD modpack. I was always interested in the concept of dimensions existing side by side to ours, so while my friends cleared dungeons I wanted to learn anything about it. Like you said there is something about it that just pulls you in. RAD offered many other dimensions as well, it must have been well over a dozent. My mission was to visit every dimension, collect rare items from them and somehow link them in one place we called interdimensional railroad station. Together with thaumcraft I felt like some ancient scholar that broke down reality to its very core, trying to understand it. It was the best minecraft run I ever had and I remember the time with my friends fondly. I wish I could play it for the first time again.

    • Back when I had dimensional doors in a modpack, I saw "limbo" and fell in love. More recently, I wanted to make a base in Limbo - as long as it is made of certain blocks, it is resistant against decay, and the decay blocks can be used for very unique interactions and farms (like an automatic gravel farm) I wish i had the time or a server to do it in. I think it would rock, and basically nobody would find me.

  • I remember playing DimensionalDoors back in 1.12.2 and being so sad that they never updated it past that version. I remember checking a few years ago and I still couldn't find anything. I'm glad that it's getting updated finally. This was such an amazing video. The style is perfect and I love your character sitting in the world. It realls adds such a cozy vibe.

  • This really does bring me back to watching my favorite youtubers playing with their friends on modded servers, or playing Hexxit for the first time and discovering a Door, being disappointed like so many other kids my age to find out the funny Glowstone water portal doesn't work. Simple times, not necessarily better times, but much simpler.

  • I'd love to see a part 2 or 3 to this, this is a really good video and I honestly didn't even know that Tropicraft existed. I played an Aether mod pack for maybe an hour in creative years ago, and I knew dimensional doors existed but that's about it. But this has inspired me to actually play these mods.

  • This gave me slight nostilga of remembering my first interaction with the dimentional doors mod. I remember starting the game on a modpack and finding a rift, eventually I figured out how I made a portal and when I entered I got creeped to death. It was probably one of the scariest experiences of my childhood but it was in some way still a very fun memory to look at. Btw love the dedication and the video focus on quality rather than quantity.

It was just so charming and is one of my favorite mincecraft mods. Your video also captures a lot of nostalgia from back when we had creative mod review series' like Yoglabs. I don't know if its your music, style, or simplicity but keep it up 👍

  • Dang, Uberhaxornova - that's some nostalgia... I remember one old dimension mod that I really enjoyed - Mystcraft. Based on Myst series, you needed to find hidden glyphs in treasure chests that you would use to create special books that were essentially keys to custom designed dimensions. The glyphs added or altered features to the dimension, and there were random elements. There was a threat that you could end up making an unstable dimension that deteriorates into the void... or you could accidentally create a dimension of pure void. You would need to collect rare glyphs, and learn how to arrange them, to make stable dimensions. It was pretty neat, but hasn't been updated since 1.12.

  • DD has always been a favorite mod of mine. As well as all the bits you mentioned, it works as a dimension hopper. I made a pack years ago with DD, and disabled all the portals, so winding your way through a door's maze was the only way between dimensions, and it can lead you to them all... randomly... This makes it very useful with a mod like AOA that has the most obnoxious portal in Minecraft to try and build.
