I added the Immortal Snail to Minecraft

An immortal snail spawns in roughly 20 blocks from you when you spawn into the world. He is slow and fairly easy to avoid if you can see him coming, but if he reaches you, instant death. Even with full prot 4 netherite with beacons, enchanted golden apples, and turtle master potions, he will kill you in a single hit. He hits so hard, he might break your armor in a single strike.
It's best to avoid him, but should you wish to kill him, there is only one way. By killing the immortal snail's peaceful brothers and sisters in swamps and dripstone caves, you can get 3 new items: Raw Snail, Snail Shell Shards, and Ooze. Following the Raw Snail progression tree in the advancements tab brings you to a food that can give you the immortal snail's immunity for a short time. The Snail Shell Shards lead to a set of snail armor with incredible durability that can survive several hits from the immortal snail even if you don't. The Ooze tree is a little different. The immortal snail's rage grows as he sees you kill innocent, peaceful snails right before his eyes while he is too slow to stop you. The final straw is when you make a potion from the ooze of innocent snails and splash him with it. He immediately transforms into the form of his true full potential, the King Snail, and summons two Snail Knights to aid him in battle. The King Snail boss fight begins.
The snail's increased size gives him a larger reach and a powerful knockback attack. He and his knights hunt you the same way the immortal snail did, so if you are not prepared to finish this fight, be prepared to be chased by them forever. The increased size gave them one single weakness though, they are vulnerable to player melee damage. So buckle up for a long, difficult battle as you dance just outside the snail's melee range while still staying close enough to hit him. When the king finally dies, he drops an item that can be used to make a powerful helmet.
But the fight against the snails isn't over, even with the King dead, another snail may soon take up his charge and become the immortal snail again.
There is also a new snail villager profession just for fun. It's pretty expensive, but uhhh... I wanted it... The knights can also be tamed and ridden, but they're snails so they're slow and there's no real use for it.

  • The mod is updated on CurseForge, I am so sorry to the 6 of you who downloaded v1.0.2, the snail deletes your inventory because of a bug in that one, but I immediately put a v1.0.3 that fixes that. Other fixes include but aren't limited to: - Immortal Snail is now immortal (lol) It used to die by several things that I hadn't thought of like dripstone and iron golems and now it doesn't - Immortal Snail teleports to the world spawn when it falls in the void (I have to teleport it somewhere and I can't teleport it to the player because then it would kill the player, so this is the best I got - Immortal Snail follows you for 10,000 blocks - Immortal Snail loads the chunk he is in and unloads the ones he leaves and can see between loaded and unloaded chunks and still path through them. - Immortal Snail kills you without breaking your armor now (King Snail still breaks your armor, this is intended game design) - Reinforced Snail Helmet has increased durability - Reinforced Snail Helmet has a new ability! When you sneak, it makes you immobile, unable to hit things, and makes you invincible. (So it's immortality at the cost of mobility and actions. It's a little OP but I'm aware most of you guys who play with mods play with multiple mods and this could be a good addition to a multi-mod world) - Re-balanced snail villager trades a little Notes: - Immortal Snail has ways to teleport out of traps that I didn't mention in my video talking about it because it was supposed to be a surprise for those of you who played it, but a lot of comments basically said "you can just trap it, this is dumb." I just didn't want to spoil the fun - And the most commented thing on the video was that the snail armor is useless even though I said it was useful for the Snail King fight. I know it's useless, I just thought it was funny to pretend it was useful. Play the game how you want and you don't have to use the armor if you don't want to

    • I haven't played the mod yet but I think you should remove the snail helmet's ability and add it onto the reinforced snail helmet. That way there's a larger incentive to fight the king snail.

    • You could also use math if you want, estimate the time it would take and have the snail appear in the players chunks after the estimated time of arrival

    • ​@@soup2865eh, doesn't need to be that finicky. Just keep track of the chunk the snail is in, move it one chunk towards the player every so often. Y level might be an issue, but you could probs figure something out for that. Loading the chunk would be fine too

  • This mod should include a way to make yourself immortal, but doing so summons the immortal snail in order to fully create the experience. Or maybe instead of a way to do this in game, “immortal snail mode” is a game mode like peaceful or hardcore

    • But at the same time, what else is there to expand on the Immortal snail? It literally just slowly moves towards you and then kills you on contact. So he decided to just expand on it.     • Why would you even wear armor during the snail fight? It won’t help… I think if you made the snail guards not one-shot you, but do enough damage to one shot you without armor, it might incentivize using snail armor

  • Suggestion: the snail loads 1 chunk it is in It pathfinds 10 blocks at a time in the compass direction of the player (or last portal they entered) If trapped, it takes 5 minutes to mine a block

    • maybe a modpack idea would have the progression result in reaching a method to kill the immortal snail, harnessing the immortality for yourself to which you've completed the pack. And to balance it maybe have it move a bit faster if its farther away so you can't just try to make a base 100k blocks away or something

  • It would be cool if the Reinforced Snail Helmet gave you some kind of resistance to the snail instant-kills. Maybe reduces the damage to kill you in two hits instead of one. Also, it'd be cool if the immortal snail could slowly break blocks and climb walls, to make it properly impossible to escape forever.

  • maybe the king snail ooze could be applied with a snail shell, the helmet, and the ooze in a smithing table? that way it doesnt clear enchants off the helmet

  • I've only seen 3 immortal snail mods including this one, and i think this is the best one, not only because i just generally prefer your snail model over other people's models, but also the fact that this mod adds more than just a single snail, it adds new items and a boss fight, that's pretty cool, this mod is now on my list of mods that i may or may not play with

  • Since the original scenario has you immortal and only die if you touch the snail, if you arent already in hardcore, the snail should be able to kill you permanently

    • Yeah, there are others but I didn’t like their mechanics. You should go on curseforge and try a couple of them on there if you want a good little laugh. My mod is by no means perfect as I’m finding new problems with it still, so I’m not judging too hard, but some of them have really funny bugs

  • if the snail could chunk load around itself similar to the wither storm mod, and had the ability to mine blocks in its pathfinding if it can't find a valid air path, that would definitely add to the intimidation of a mob that could potentially instantly end a hardcore world

    • I am making it so it loads chunks in the next update and I don't want it to break blocks because snails irl can't really break blocks and it's assumed in the original concept that the immortal snail is based on an irl snail and probably wouldn't easily be able to break 1m cubes of anything

  • To make the immortal snail even more dangerous make him a chunk loader so the chunk it is in and the immediate surrounding chunks are always loaded so the snail can't be unloaded. Prevent it from beginning able to be trapped by blocks by phasing/flying through blocks if it can't pathfind to the player. Make sure it can navigate to portals to track them to the other dimensions.

  • This won't be seem or appreciated but.. I clicked on this ideo expecting a more modern video, where the entire premise was playing the game but the snail is chasing you. Amused by the normal snail mob, but them amazed by the fact drops were included. And then it just expanded and expanded Literally took me back to 2012 and made me feel like a kid again, binging mod showcases. It even almost reignited my desire to have a pc, just to download mods. So thanks for the nostalgia

  • This is great work, especially for your first mod! I have a suggestion to make the tameable snails more worthwhile: they could be able to stick to and climb up vertical walls so they can be somewhat useful for traversing large vertical areas. It's probably not super simple to do but I think it'd be cool!

  • the full set of snail armor should make like 50-60% resilient to harmful potions/effects (with more towards slowness, like 25-30% of it resistant to most harmful effects and the rest[25-30%] for slowness) and the reinforced snail helm should have a 75% resistance to most harmful effects (stacks with set bonus) and straight up immunity to slowness. the golden escargot should give a 20% resistance to harmful effects (with a similar split to the snail armor set bonus) and the enchanted golden escargot being the same as the golden escargot but with a 40% harmful effects resistance and gives the slimy effect with a effect time similar to the resistance effect then the absorption effect. also, the slimy effect should allow you to slide down walls (like honey blocks) and give you increased knockback resistance (like 75% of a full set of unenchanted netherite armor) these are just ideas to help give your items more flavor to stand out against the vanilla items (other than SNAIL!!!!), I really don't know how to make mods, but I hope these help, for your first mod is good, but it can always be better, cheers! -random internet stranger

  • Great mod and video! Here are a couple suggestions for the implementation of the immortal snail. I hope they can somewhat inspire you :D Pathfinding across large distances: If it's in unloaded chunks, direct pathfinding would not only be difficult but largely unnecessary. From the moment the snail gets into unloaded chunks, it should practically only exist as chunk coordinates, and it could pathfind on a chunk-based scale towards the last chunk the player was in in the given dimension. Although relatively simple and effective, the system has one major flaw: the snail might skip dimensions if the player travels too quickly. To address this issue, consider storing the player's initial and final chunk positions in each dimension, and maintain a register to track the sequence of dimensions traversed by the player. You should probably randomize the speed of the chunk-based virtual snail, making it slightly faster than its loaded counterpart. If the virtual snail reaches chunks loaded by the player (not by portals or spawn chunks, for example), only then should it actually spawn as an entity, preferably near the outer edge toward the direction the virtual snail came from. Ideas for the entity: First, I'd remove the name tag, making the snail impossible to distinguish from normal snails unless you test it. You could also make it more intelligent: if possible, it could try to avoid direct line of sight. If normal snails are in its vicinity and the player is near, it should pathfind towards the snails to blend in. If it's really close to the player, its pathfinding should look quite indecisive, like it's just a normal snail that happens to travel towards the player. (In order to do that, maybe just use the normal idle AI, but only use a path if its destination is closer to the player.) Finally, it kind of defeats the purpose of the mod if it's easy to build a snail-safe space, like some sort of an island or just an enclosed base the snail cannot pathfind into. To solve this issue, there should be alternatives if the snail fails to pathfind normally. It could maybe climb, jump, chew through blocks, or even fly and teleport. To make it a bit more realistic when it flies, a flying mob - like a bat or phantom - could 'pick it up', and when it teleports it could be held by an enderman. I think these features could really add to the mod, since the concept is not only that the snail inches closer and you will meet your fate unavoidably, but also because you have no idea how exactly it will happen. You always have to keep in mind that the snail is really intelligent and constantly works towards your demise. Anyways, keep it up!
