  • When I was 8 years old, my dad bought a beautiful new Toyota pick-up. We would go off-roading all over Texas. There was a spot on the San Jacinto River that had water crossings, mud bogs, and a crazy rock climb with roots all over it. We would show up to that spot in the beautiful two tone (blue with the white stripe down the middle of the side panels) Toyota, and there would be guys in big Fords, Chevys, and Dodges, who would all talk some kind of trash when we showed up. Like, "jap crap"and "pussy ass rice burner". But by the end of the day, that little Toyota pulled almost every big bronco, blazer, and truck out of the mud. Always got a kick out of that. There's an off-road story.

Wish my grandpa hadn't flipped it into, and out of a ditch at about 55mph (he survived with minor injuries, but the truck was absolutely totaled. Which is a testament of the safety of the truck). They said that in spite of the maintenance contract they had with Land Rover the vehicles they had kept breaking so much that they switched to Cruisers and only ever had a fraction of the problems afterwards. They're bloody bomb proof.

Most people say to me: "Dude, that´s a very old truck", I say nothing back to them, I just think "Thanks God my truck doesn´t talk". Best 20 years of my life so far: it doesn´t brake down, jam or let you down in street, mud, sand, snow, dirt, rain, nothing will stop it to drive you to your destiny and then back to home, it doesn´t care if you treat it good, normal or baddly, it´s gonna last the same... Is the freaking AK of vehicles.

However, not long after the Landcruiser went on sale, that went down to 2%, yes 2%!! This has already been commented on, but I’m going to say it again because it’s quite funny, that the saying in Australia is, “if you want to head out into the outback take a Land Rover, but if you want to come back again take a Landcruiser”. No disrespect to Land Rover, but that says it all.

  • Hi I am from Venezuela a country full of Toyota lovers. My Grandad himself had a black Land Cruiser model 80. It was a wonderful vehicle. These were nicknamed "Burbujas" (bubbles) and "Autanas" (the name of a tepui, a rooftop-shaped mountain common here) I really loved to drive it. And the model 60 are called "Samurais". The model 80 was so popular that in my country they were produced as late as 2007. The newest model's nickname is "Roraima" (another tepui). But unfortunately they're so unaffordable that only corrupt politicians can get them. Anyway, I loved your video bro. Keep up the good work.

  • I guess the history lesson followed the US lineage of the Land Cruiser, but definitely not the world's. Toyota decided to split the LC range twice. First, they continued with the 70 Series even though the 80 Series went into production. 70s were seen as the work-horses, while the 80s were the more "lifestyle" rigs. In higher trims, the 70s became known as LC Prado, but this was short lived until the 90 Series was launched in 1996 when the LC Prado became its own model line, rather than just a trim level. Shortly thereafter is when the second split occurred, making the LC range now 3 distinct models: the long running 70 Series, medium sized 90 Series, and full sized 100, Series at the time. This three way split continues to today, with the 70 Series still being in production (albeit slightly face-lifted), then we have the current LC Prado aka 150 Series, and finally the full sized LC 200 Series. Where I'm from, we have all 3 sold here

    • LG COC The Lagging Offencoch I can answer your questions. Why no changes: -For that we will have to go back to WW1. The germans helped Lenin to gain popularity in order to overthrow the autoritarian government and basically make Russia defenseless and then conquer it. Lenin was exiled, he was Marxist, Marx was German(Prussian). It worked, but with a delay. Germany wasn't able to capitulate Russia. . . What does that have to do with all? I am gonna say some bad stuff about commies, so you shouldn't think I mean it against the russians, but rather the fking commies. . . So, the Cold War era: The commies were too busy arming the country and that was costing a lot in both money and human resources. So they were saying "fuck you" to every new project that requires a lot of money. An example is AZLK: They had a project for a family car with RWD, independent rear suspension and DOHC engine. IN 1973 !!! They had 3 concepts and had already tested it against western cars for reliability and comfort. Sounds good, doesn't it? Yeah, but ministry of automobile industry passed a new law that said "all soviet cars of new generation must be FWD". So the project got cancelled. AZLK had put all its money in it. What did the ministry do? -Sent a Simca 1307 to the engineers as a "present". And so the AZLK 2141 came to be. A boring, FWD, SOHC engined PoS that was severely underpowered. It was kinda the same with VAZ(Lada) only that as you may know, after the commies went out, Russia had no money. So the restrictions imposed by the communist government were gone, but now there were no money to spend on development. Even with that, they did make new cars, further developments of the 2108 platform which was developed in conjunction with Porsche. -Priora -Samara 2 -Kalina -Granta And now since Renault-Nissan bought them, they made the Vesta and XRAY. They kept the Riva and Niva in production because they sold reasonably well. But there were changes, and not for the better. Since the mid to late 90s the Riva began to be made of cheaper steel. In the mid 2000s they received fuel injection from GM as a "reward" for making the Chevy Niva(with which they sold the "Niva" nameplate and that's why new ones are called 4x4) So don't take new crash tests seriously. There's one old one where it hits a concrete wall at 50km/h and almost doesn't deform. The new one with the blue 2107 is also a different test- a 40% overlap one, instead of a head-on. On top of that the car is new and is made of the shitty steel.

  • My grandfather said a Toyota is a poor mans military tank. Toyota is the only car brand that I will go with. Just look for the video that top gear created called trying to kill a Toyota where they burned and bashed it to pieces and spoiler alert. It still ran and drove. If you speak of ford or any other American car brand in my household, you will be exiled to a galaxy far far away.

    • That being said though the Toyota Hiluxes from the mid 1990s are/were indestructible. I see them a lot still driving in Peru where they sold a ton of them to that market.

  • I drive an '02 Land Cruiser most days to work in Guatemala, and we also just got an FJ-40 from the 70s here too. I'm having some basic repairs done on my '02 (Window Motor and Headlight that was smashed) I gotta say that for Guatemala older Land Cruisers are perfect for the narrow roads and streets that are poorly maintained and the unmaintained rural roads, and from a mechanical standpoint they never quit.
