    • Diplodocus (/dɪˈplɒdəkəs/,[1][2] /daɪˈplɒdəkəs/,[2] or /ˌdɪploʊˈdoʊkəs/[1]) is a genus of diplodocid sauropod dinosaurs whose fossils were first discovered in 1877 by S. W. Williston. The generic name, coined by Othniel Charles Marsh in 1878, is a neo-Latin term derived from Greek διπλός (diplos) "double" and δοκός (dokos) "beam",[1][3] in reference to its double-beamed chevron bones located in the underside of the tail. Chevron bones of this particular form were initially believed to be unique to Diplodocus; since then they have been discovered in other members of the diplodocid family as well as in non-diplodocid sauropods, such as Mamenchisaurus. It is now common scientific opinion that Seismosaurus hallorum is a species of Diplodocus. This genus of dinosaurs lived in what is now mid-western North America at the end of the Jurassic period. Diplodocus is one of the more common dinosaur fossils found in the middle to upper Morrison Formation, between about 154 and 152 million years ago, during the late Kimmeridgian age.[4] The Morrison Formation records an environment and time dominated by gigantic sauropod dinosaurs, such as Apatosaurus, Barosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Brontosaurus, and Camarasaurus.[5] Diplodocus is among the most easily identifiable dinosaurs, with its typical sauropod shape, long neck and tail, and four sturdy legs. For many years, it was the longest dinosaur known. Its great size may have been a deterrent to the predators Allosaurus and Ceratosaurus: their remains have been found in the same strata, which suggests that they coexisted with Diplodocus.

  • Great video! Thank you Doug for highlighting the features of the LC to my wife and I. Living in Arizona, you get harsh weather conditions. In the summer, the heat can exceed 108 degrees. You also get heavy rain monsoon thunder storms towards the end of the summer that result in flash flooded roads and trails. In the winter, it goes down to freezing temperatures in places as far south as Tombstone and heavy snow on the mountains as far south as Mount Lemmon, AZ ( there is a ski resort). So, you can go from rock crawling, mud splashing or flooded road crossings in the middle of the desert to a 3-4 ft of snow on the mountains within a 30 minutes drive. So, when I was looking for a vehicle that can conquer the Arizona trails/roads, offer a comfortable ride on long road trips, good power for long HWY climbs, high reliability, low maintenance cost and high resale value; The Land Cruiser was then only choice. (From the 4Runner to the G Wagon, the LC is our choice) For 2020 the LC Heritage Edition is better configured for the adventurer type. Hopefully, you will review it soon. By the way, I found a good video in KZhead that highlights the off road capability of the LC. Let me know if you would like me to send it to you.

  • One thing you gotta commend Toyota for is how they are still selling a real SUV. Unlike most large SUV's these days that are so focused around the suburbs that they lost their off-road and rugged credentials, this is the real deal, the Land Cruiser is still a rugged and off-road capable machine. It makes a Range Rover seem like a luxury sedan in comparison.

It actually handles remarkably well for its size/weight. Anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't driven one or hasn't had enough experience driving larger vehicles to make such a statement. No, It'll never handle like a mid engine sports car. It wasn't designed as such. And yes, it is a thirsty beast, but if you have to ask.....In sum, it has always been and continues to be the benchmark of off roading prowess and near bullet proof reliability, regardless of price range. Yeah Toyota’s are far less complex therefore there’s less maintenance to do whereas in a BMW you have all this fancy stuff that you have to take care of but it doesn’t mean it’s unreliable people just don’t take proper care of them and that’s it.

  • What some people don't realize is that the Land Cruiser J200 sold in 'murica is only sold in the highest trim level of the Land Cruiser. In the middle east, a base model J200 LC would costs half the price. It starts from $40000-55000 depending on the country in question. The trim levels are the GX, GX.R, VX, VX-R and VX.S. The base model GX is the stripped down land Cruiser, comes only with either the 4.0 V6 Petrol or 4.5 V8 Turbo diesel. Then there's the GX.R which's the most common model in the middle east. The GX.R is the low-mid range model. The engine choices includes 4.0 V6, 4.6 V8 and V8 turbo diesel. You can have it in either automatic or a 5 speed manual. The VX, VX-E, VX.R and VX.S are the more...luxurious models similar to the one in the video. You get all sorts of "luxurious stuff" from things like leather, touch screens, rear screens, climate control, safety like lane departure, blind spot monitor...etc. Engine choices are the 4.5 V8 turbo diesel, 4.6 V8 petrol and 5.7 V8 that was featured in this video. My point is, a base model Land Cruiser costs about similar prices to a Nissan Patrol Y62, a Chevrolet Tahoe and the Ford Expedition (in the middle eastern prices, mind you). While the Tahoe and Expedition are pretty popular over here, the Land Cruiser and Patrol are more popular thanks to the availability of parts, maintain it's prices well in the used market and the famed reliability of course.

  • This seems like a very different review than what I'd expect as an Australian. In AU Land Cruisers are way popular, but until recently are very spartan inside, with A/C, FM radio, etc. as an option, canvas seats, no frills, most sought after are the V6 and V8 Diesels, they're seen as the ultimate foundation for guys to do up and build an offroad unit. Despite what Doug says the V8 Petrol/Gas is not any more reliable than the Diesel, probably less. Probably one of the big reasons why these are popular in AU, especially as work AND play utes is that we don't have much market for the larger American pickups yet. After left to right hand conversions the luxury car text comes in and smacks the price way up so a Silverado for example will cost $150,000, F250s start over $110,000. Electronic parking brakes, keyless ignition, etc. are for girls and sissies. There are certain things you can do both onroad and offroad with a handbrake and some throttle that you can't do with the service brakes and a button is unreliable and unusable if you want to get tricky.
