DOUGSCORE CHART: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
Horseback Grill serves the finest diplodocus in the world. ;)
Diplodocus (/dɪˈplɒdəkəs/,[1][2] /daɪˈplɒdəkəs/,[2] or /ˌdɪploʊˈdoʊkəs/[1]) is a genus of diplodocid sauropod dinosaurs whose fossils were first discovered in 1877 by S. W. Williston. The generic name, coined by Othniel Charles Marsh in 1878, is a neo-Latin term derived from Greek διπλός (diplos) "double" and δοκός (dokos) "beam",[1][3] in reference to its double-beamed chevron bones located in the underside of the tail. Chevron bones of this particular form were initially believed to be unique to Diplodocus; since then they have been discovered in other members of the diplodocid family as well as in non-diplodocid sauropods, such as Mamenchisaurus. It is now common scientific opinion that Seismosaurus hallorum is a species of Diplodocus. This genus of dinosaurs lived in what is now mid-western North America at the end of the Jurassic period. Diplodocus is one of the more common dinosaur fossils found in the middle to upper Morrison Formation, between about 154 and 152 million years ago, during the late Kimmeridgian age.[4] The Morrison Formation records an environment and time dominated by gigantic sauropod dinosaurs, such as Apatosaurus, Barosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Brontosaurus, and Camarasaurus.[5] Diplodocus is among the most easily identifiable dinosaurs, with its typical sauropod shape, long neck and tail, and four sturdy legs. For many years, it was the longest dinosaur known. Its great size may have been a deterrent to the predators Allosaurus and Ceratosaurus: their remains have been found in the same strata, which suggests that they coexisted with Diplodocus.

Although Doug is methodical in his evaluation, fast forward to 2021 and this SUV should be on the top of the list for 1 solid reason...RELIABILITY. This will NOT let you down unlike any other car out there. "A famous Australian saying goes that if you want to go into the bush, you take a Land Rover, but if you want to come back, you take a Toyota Land Cruiser." Enough said.
Great video! Thank you Doug for highlighting the features of the LC to my wife and I. Living in Arizona, you get harsh weather conditions. In the summer, the heat can exceed 108 degrees. You also get heavy rain monsoon thunder storms towards the end of the summer that result in flash flooded roads and trails. In the winter, it goes down to freezing temperatures in places as far south as Tombstone and heavy snow on the mountains as far south as Mount Lemmon, AZ ( there is a ski resort). So, you can go from rock crawling, mud splashing or flooded road crossings in the middle of the desert to a 3-4 ft of snow on the mountains within a 30 minutes drive. So, when I was looking for a vehicle that can conquer the Arizona trails/roads, offer a comfortable ride on long road trips, good power for long HWY climbs, high reliability, low maintenance cost and high resale value; The Land Cruiser was then only choice. (From the 4Runner to the G Wagon, the LC is our choice) For 2020 the LC Heritage Edition is better configured for the adventurer type. Hopefully, you will review it soon. By the way, I found a good video in KZhead that highlights the off road capability of the LC. Let me know if you would like me to send it to you.

My parents purchased a 1999 LX470 one week before I was born, and I learned how to drive in that same exact car. I am currently 20, and that vehicle continues to run strong with 289,000 miles on it. Toyota did an amazing job with the Land Cruiser/LX line.
Just purchased a similar vintage LC! Very super solid, even all these years later. People (who obviously aren’t car ppl) think it’s only a few years old, especially when they drive it.
I am 19 now, and I drive 2001 LC, some people think that it’s something boring and not cool at all, but that’s because they never had contact with that vehicle. Love this car so much!
I had the exact same maintenance reminder in my 2017 Subaru Outback; love that thing because I can set specific things and at certain mileage for myself
Fun fact, my 1992 sc300 has a first aid kit that was sealed when I bought it. 28 year old medical time capsule. Pretty cool they still do it
One thing you gotta commend Toyota for is how they are still selling a real SUV. Unlike most large SUV's these days that are so focused around the suburbs that they lost their off-road and rugged credentials, this is the real deal, the Land Cruiser is still a rugged and off-road capable machine. It makes a Range Rover seem like a luxury sedan in comparison.

C Crawford That’s awesome. I know if a Toyota cargo van that went just over 900k miles before catching fire. By that point it was burning 1qt per hundred miles. Rear window was always covered in oil slime.
My 2009 Camry with 187K also has all the cluster panel lights burnt, I think Toyota never uses any lights 💩 I've been suspicious on Toyota until I saw the TPMS light 2 weeks ago and turned out I had a bad sensor 😭😭😭😭😂😂😂 I'm finally wrong
@@cuddlyanimals01 It sounds like the sensor got tired of waiting around for something to go wrong and committed seppuku 😁😁
My Toyota Tundra is at 239K miles and you’re right, I think their CELs are broken.
Doug said "This thing moves,..it really hauls!" and then he gives it a 2 for acceleration!
Wow, the Yugo got only a 1 for acceleration!
it's better to move on to something else when he starts talking about the "doug score".
Brilliant
That's why DougScore is terrible.
His acceleration score is a joke. If it's more than 5 seconds 0-60, it's trash to him
Whos here after the older land cruiser review?
I like the way you smile when you offer us your next video link for crawling cruiser lol

This is my new dream car! love this video!!
Who is here after watching Doug’s video about Toyota making a mistake for canceling the land cruiser?
I worked at a BMW dealership before bck in 2017 and i remembered how hilarious it was to see people driving over to BMW in their Toyota SUVs to come see the new X5!? without knowing jst how much a pain in the ass owning this german cars can be. Yes! the German cars have the looks n feel and all but then its no way near to being as reliable as a Toyota. Not even close!
yeah they are good cars they wont just stop working which means they arnt that unreliable but they got so many features and things that can break even though they might not randomly die on you but keeping everything working is hard and expensive
Why did Toyota choose BMW to design the Supra. I'm sure they did they're homework
Endz Meet Music because bmw are using Toyota hybrid systems
The irony of it is tht, despite building the Supra off of a BMW Z4, it did manage to beat the crap out of it with ease. kzhead.info/sun/lNiHn9eMq5aLlH0/bejne.html
Marked Zenuasia That is not completely true. How well you take care of a car plays a big role in how long your car will last. Yeah Toyota’s are far less complex therefore there’s less maintenance to do whereas in a BMW you have all this fancy stuff that you have to take care of but it doesn’t mean it’s unreliable people just don’t take proper care of them and that’s it.
See these literally EVERYWHERE here in Doha, Qatar.
Noice
Hahahaha exactly in qatar they are littered everywhere
Auditography they are even more common here in Riyadh
its everywhere in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman and Kuwait !!!
Mikael Smith in Saudi Arabia, the Land Cruiser is more common here than how the Corvette is common in ‘Murica
this is my dream car,...love your review so much
Well done review!

If I need to use my parking brake, I want to know 100% that it's going to function. Thumbs up to Toyota for the mechanical parking brake.
Indeed . I never trust electronics when it comes to that
Actually LandCruiser has one of the worst parking brakes ever. I know because I had 5 different LandCruisers and they always need readjustment every month. Wonder if Toyota has fixed this issue for the 200 series.
Right? I really dislike salesmen who cut corners on the engineers all the time to save a few dollars.
That's ironically the LCs weak point, the wire loses tension and needs readjusting periodically
Nobody: Nobody on earth: Doug: I AM THE LAND CRUISER me too Doug.
After driving a land cruiser as a daily driver, driving anything else feels weird and uncomfortable.
Doug is the type of guy who unzipes his handbrake everytime he is alone.
I give this comment 1 huge guffaw up!
How many times you will paste this comment again??

Not in November he don’t
Arabic on the cooler box. Toyota knows its customers.
Easily the market that's keeping the Land Cruiser alive in a time when straight four compacts are dominating the industry.
haha you're right (9:49)
DesecratedReaper most of people have this car is Arab but i don’t like it i like the lexus LX570 more but they same car
Potato Crossovers are super popular here in America for some reason.
You always make it easier what car to choose...👍👍👍
my dad owns the top model and it has 2 screens at the back coming with a remote and headphones, you can watch anything. It also comes with a really cool sunroof.
What some people don't realize is that the Land Cruiser J200 sold in 'murica is only sold in the highest trim level of the Land Cruiser. In the middle east, a base model J200 LC would costs half the price. It starts from $40000-55000 depending on the country in question. The trim levels are the GX, GX.R, VX, VX-R and VX.S. The base model GX is the stripped down land Cruiser, comes only with either the 4.0 V6 Petrol or 4.5 V8 Turbo diesel. Then there's the GX.R which's the most common model in the middle east. The GX.R is the low-mid range model. The engine choices includes 4.0 V6, 4.6 V8 and V8 turbo diesel. You can have it in either automatic or a 5 speed manual. The VX, VX-E, VX.R and VX.S are the more...luxurious models similar to the one in the video. You get all sorts of "luxurious stuff" from things like leather, touch screens, rear screens, climate control, safety like lane departure, blind spot monitor...etc. Engine choices are the 4.5 V8 turbo diesel, 4.6 V8 petrol and 5.7 V8 that was featured in this video. My point is, a base model Land Cruiser costs about similar prices to a Nissan Patrol Y62, a Chevrolet Tahoe and the Ford Expedition (in the middle eastern prices, mind you). While the Tahoe and Expedition are pretty popular over here, the Land Cruiser and Patrol are more popular thanks to the availability of parts, maintain it's prices well in the used market and the famed reliability of course.
This. Also, the (Qatari spec) VXS has more features than the US spec Land Cruisers.
Good info. Thanks.
ToyGTone underrated comment
The U.S. spec'd Land Cruiser has a 5.7L engine. The Middle East, Africa and probably Australia come spec'd with a 4.6L engine.
@@richard112360 In Australia most people buy the 4.5L turbodiesel. There is also a petrol 4.6 available.
This is the Official car of Politicians and Rich People in Africa !
Also in India 🇮🇳
Also in Pakistan, And here it costs almost $300000 and people still buy it
Also Vietnam
You spelled warlords wrong
in africa this car will set you back $170,000 including taxes
This seems like a very different review than what I'd expect as an Australian. In AU Land Cruisers are way popular, but until recently are very spartan inside, with A/C, FM radio, etc. as an option, canvas seats, no frills, most sought after are the V6 and V8 Diesels, they're seen as the ultimate foundation for guys to do up and build an offroad unit. Despite what Doug says the V8 Petrol/Gas is not any more reliable than the Diesel, probably less. Probably one of the big reasons why these are popular in AU, especially as work AND play utes is that we don't have much market for the larger American pickups yet. After left to right hand conversions the luxury car text comes in and smacks the price way up so a Silverado for example will cost $150,000, F250s start over $110,000. Electronic parking brakes, keyless ignition, etc. are for girls and sissies. There are certain things you can do both onroad and offroad with a handbrake and some throttle that you can't do with the service brakes and a button is unreliable and unusable if you want to get tricky.
Just bought a 2013 LC, and am waiting for delivery. So stoked
The old school style is exactly why I love the land cruiser.
Doug is the type of guy to steal scissors from a Toyota first aid kit
What I'm wondering is, he mentioned being bitten by a snake and then the scissors. How would scissors help with a snake bite?... If there was anti-venom in the kit it would have made sense, but otherwise?
@@vtr0104 cutting the snake, maybe?
