  • Your approach to handle this difficult field as the understandig of different accents is Now perfect and enjoyable. Furthemore, I completely agree with Karl that too many things in museums spoil the main Point of them. i was so happy to Hear HIM say that. i also think that it is important to follow common Sense and moderation above all that commercials and ads. This is quite an interesting and challinging episode.thanks a lot.

  • Hi Luke, thank you for everything that you're doing for English learners! I feel so lucky that one day I've found your channel on KZhead and now am having the chance to enjoy the natural speech along with practicing my vocabulary and listening skills. Your podcasts are absolutely fascinating, capturing my attention every time you're releasing a new video. Regarding Karl Pilkington's comments, I find them very honest, a bit sarcastic and in some episodes revealing the truth of our society nowadays, something that worth bringing on the surface. People are never satisfied with what they have so they are making up new ways of entertaining themselves, sometimes those ways are just too much. Anyway, thank you so much for your work and efforts, we all are very appreciative out there. Look forward to seeing new videos!

I particular paid closer attention to the differences between Brittish regional accents; it was releiving to learn there is a guide or pathway se can follow to understand spoken English. And the vocab is highly educational for me. Keep up doing these podcasts. Thank you. God bless hoy!

  • This episode that I listened to before watching the video was a fantastic experience, because I found so clear your explanations about this different accent. Only at the end did I realize that I was listening to you who has been spoken English all the time, but it was as if I was listening to my language. It is so exciting for me, that in march of this year I was not able to understand even children stories in English. I am not so smart, it is just I think that this kind of podcast is really useful, because our brain focuses on a more difficult level of comprehention and flows in some road where the every known part of the foreign languague becomes natural. I really think this mechanism could be effective for many people. Thank you very very much

Also, I have to say since I discovered your podcast a few months ago I have become addicted to it (yes, I have been a ninja all this time 😂). I find it very nice, enjoyable and I feel my English improving. So glad that I have found you. Looking forward to next part 2. PS. I have no interest at all for Karl's opinions/thoughts, but it is helpfulto get to know people who are or have been in the public eye, as cultural references to them appear in conversations with locals or those who have been in the UK for a while.

That would be nice if you do video about a weird Barnsley slang. 😉 I know a few words from my colleagues, but still have problem to understand them sometimes 😅

  • Hey Luke, I hope you’re well. Even though I’m a native English speaker, my interest for British English regional accents has peaked over the past two-three years. Your videos on Manchester’s Accent are informative and I was wondering if you could give precise time intervals where Karl Pilkington structures the following sentences Look, how many do you need? I’m not surprised they went extinct, they’re all in here. She’d had a new lung, a new heart He puts his hand in and goes “Yep, it’s broke” They weren’t doing anything. They weren’t jumping through hoops. I know if it’s cruel or not, to have them in there. I’m 32, I think I’ve got the hang of it. I’ll have a look at the meteorites. If you’re going to eat a live animal, don’t eat one that’s got eight arms that can get hold of your neck. Let me see them again when they’re better. What’s he going on about now? If there were dinosaurs about now and that. If we’ve run out we need to go outside and get some more. You’re not supposed to eat them alive. We’ve got to stay inside if we want to survive. If they were running about fighting and dying and that. Running riot (sounds like “roonin raiyut”) In all these phrases, he applies many of Manchester’s phonological features.

  • What kind of fella is Karl Pilkington 😃 His reflections are quite interesting and ironic, a funny and wacky way of interpreting things that might also make sense somehow (even though I only managed 30% of what he said without your help ☺). Speaking of nature and extinctions, I think it is not right and indeed wrong to interfere with Nature unless....unless interfering means repairing the damage we have caused with our selfishness and arrogance (as for pandas, for example). Thank you very much Luke, I really enjoyed this video lesson which confirms, once again, what a talented and genial Teacher you are 🖖, so I'm ready for the second part 👍

  • The very accent is interesting, but the pitch of Karl's voice, alas, seems rather dull and unimpressive. But the total episode is pepped up by brilliant Luke's explanations. Sorry for sounding a bit at a tangent, but I think more interesting samples of Mancunian accent can be found in TV shows "Life on Mars" and "Ashes to Ashes" with Philip Glenister and John Simm, or in "Mad Dogs". And one more funny accent - what do you think, Luke, about clips of Al Murray's show? Unfortunately the automatic transcription in youtube fails doing them well. Al Murray now is a partner with James Holland in a splendid podcast "We Have Ways of Making You Talk".
