This is why I love and enjoy learning languages (though I still have a long way to go). It just opens up a whole new world to cultures and all, and also helps me understand why some groups of people behave or say things they do.
I can relate to almost every 'very british problem' that you mentioned. I'm from Argentina and I thought it was only me, being awkward and weird hahaha. I suppose is quite universal, I mean, a certain percentage of people being born this way, me included, and the culture and upbringing playing its part in making it better or worse. Thank you so much! It was fun!
i'm binge-watching all of your podcasts!!it's incredible to understand a conversation between two native speakers,as a english learner!
I've recently started to watch your podcast and I'm already in love with it! Thank you so much for helping us to learn English! 😊
Hi Luke i would like to say you are doing great job for everyone who is learning improving english with your podcasts.I want to say Thanks a lot
In Turkish, we say to the taxi drivers something like "Leave me at the corner." Great podcast and very entertaining. Thank you all.
This episode is really entertaining, I already listened to it on the podcast and came here to 'watch' it again. This is that good.
I have found this episode so funny and entertaining. Time flew while I watched it and I have let out quite a few loud laughs!😃
it's normal be awkward, but no so much like English people! your videos are the best, you have a gift to communicate how your language goes...I feel more confy in English since I listen to you, thanks a lot
wow, I would have never imagined you feel award. I've always admired your calm way of speaking and communicating. You're super clear and precise when you teach. ❤
starlight, the correct spelling is awkward ;) an award is a prize
I listened to the podcast version before. And I've just re-listened to this episode here. And I know it felt better to listen while watching. I enjoyed it more. Or maybe because it's the second time I listened to it I understand it more. I laughed so much for a part of the British tweet. Thx Luke.
Thanks Luke for this lovely conversation. Really enjoyed it.
Another great episode! Very interesting conversation.
Thanks a lot! You host the best English podcast on the internet)
39:00 I'm Italian and I always feel like a criminal every time I pass trough the nothing to declare gate...so no, it's not just a British thing! The tweet is very accurate 😅
Love your podcasts as always, dear Luke! 💙😃
Thank you for the great podcast and the topic ❗ It made my day 😊 So many familiar situations have been arisen. I'm not British, but as I see, feeling awkward in some circumstances is a universal trait
Hello from Ukraine and thanx a lot for your podcast, Luke! Somehow it turned out that I've answered all the tweet-questions as the native English. I hope it is a good sign and my English learning will be successful )))
Great episode! Loved the tweets! It's so good to see I'm not alone! I am from Austria and know almost all of these situations. I always say the same thing in the taxi! I also always feel strange when I leave a shop and haven't bought anything. And I get high blood pressure from unknown calls. :D
Thoroughly enjoy your podcasts Luke. Thank you😊
Thank you, I just love your program.
Thank you for this beautiful podcast
Thank you , teacher Luke and Michael, always love listening to your podcasts, I am learning.
Your audio quality is unbelievable! Love it
Wow, what lovely guys you are! My responses were exactly the same! Nothing to declare, zebra crossing, and so on. The feeling of not wanting to disturb anyone at any time is always with me. I'm happy that I'm not alone with that. Love from Poland.
The same answers . I' m from Kazakhstan. Thanks for great time with you. You are so warm and friendly.😊
Wonderful lesson. Thanks ..pls keep it up.
I came to your podcast from Mr.Keith KZhead channel after I watched your interview. Firstly, your work is really admirable, you do a lot of effort to make it so special and distinguish. Secondly, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart and sorry for being most the time like the Ninja but I ensure to put like which is actually love to your all podcast.
Hello, Luke! I love your superb and excellent podcast! Thank you so much for your incredible work! You are the best English teacher in the universe! Have an excellent day!
Standing face to face in front of a class of students Is another awkward Situation. I remembered what my teacher Said: smile...always smile. You are both beautiful human beings! I had learnt a Lot! Thanks and good luck!
Hello. Truly I have he a good luck when I was a beginner in french. Every time I tried to say something and I said incorrectly there was a smart girl that she understands almost all my mistakes and she always explained me She tells me thé correct way. I never forget this girl. I always said thanks Christine from Belgium.
Thanks, I learn a lot english from your Posdcast Luke
Fantastic!!! A video with my English teacher Michael!!
Nice. Outstanding presentation.
So true about tidying your flat before having guests 😆I always say that , even not realising that I say that actually , it happens subconsciously
Very nice like always 😊 Very fun and useful
You are the best the best best i listen to your podcast every day and i hope it helps me throughout my journey to move to uk as a doctor. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you s much, Luke. I have learned a lot from you. Regarding the situation you have mentioned. I act in the same way. And I am egyptian. I think it is universal attitude. Best of luck
Great video Luke! I feel the same way when leaving a store if I didn't buy anything, as Michael said: “look casual, look like you're not stealing something” 😅 and if I enter the place with a bag I have to tell the employees that it is mine so they don't think I put something inside it before leaving. I'm from Argentina and this is not a common feature of people from my country but whenever I'm near some kind of authority, be it the police, a teacher, etc, I feel the need to be accepted by them as a proof that I've followed the rules and that I'm an ethical and well-behaved person, but it's just my personality
I listened this video by accident this morning, your experience in the process of learning a foreign language really reminds me of the numerous difficulties and embarrassing moments I had faced while on the road towards English learning. Be that as it may, I still have struggles and confusions on how to pronounce in a British way or how to speak British English for foreigners like me while also in America, especially when working or studying together, Americans always talk super loud voice, which will make my British pronunciation influenced by American accents. Another thing I find that when foreigners like us speak British English, Americans often couldn't understand that, even when the speaker standing right in front of them, Americans tend to ask you again in loud voice, make me feel like there is a mountain between us. How to let Americans understand our British way but also not influenced by their American accents.
you are the best!!👏👏
Thank you so much! I walked with my dog listening to this episode and smiled ))
Many thanjs Luke for your English conversations in orden to get a better fluentcy!!! Antonio from Seville.
Nice time,thank you
you are the best teacher ♥️♥️
As to the airport situation, I would have felt in exactly the same way as Michael! And I’m not British. I completely agree with you, Luke. It seems to be human nature…airports always bring me stress even if I have never smuggled anything! 😂😂😂 Thanks for another great podcast! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Love to watch your video to learn English
what a great episode! I feel really British now :D
i m frenc fron Pantin side Paris, i m older, i take a challenge, i want understand english, i think you are one of best for learning with disability, i m autism asperger, i was very sorrox that i can t learn english, i want to communicate with you to invent or prepare together for me is free ; how to understand easily english, the more difficulty is one syllabe word and the verb, i think the best is to make sentences : tree or four word, after with six or eight words and repeat to recognise the word oral i read the novel war of world but the step in french after in english,
Love your voice so much
I can't believe that Luke and Michael are together in this video. At first I only have been listening to Michael's podcasts and i just have discovered Luke's English podcast. Listening their podcasts and also their accents is very enjoyable.❤️
It was a really fun game with tweatter, thanks!
Hello Luke , This was great episode to watch 🤩. Regarding to self-consciousness that you mentioned in minute 31:49 , I trust that the vast majority of people in my community don’t have which is annoying sometimes . In my opinion it is advantageous thing and I will try to be more conscious of myself because I believe this kind of thing manifest one good manners .
I love you both ☺️
Thanks
I definitely share this type of anxiety, awkwardness.
Love it👍
These awkward situations make funny memories. I was laughing out loud. 😂😂😂
Saying some words like (right) before standing to leave is also here in Egypt, I like this. 😂♥️
Regards to Twitter quiz, we have the same weird customs in the Russia. Also, about a paying with debet card like Visa. Usually in a little shop paying process has a little delay after reafig the card, and we patiently waiting confirmation of our purchase, trying to hold pokerface and polite smile))) Thanks for the video, it was very funny and lovely.
I absolutely have no problem getting out a shop without buying anything!
This conversation is so related to me 😹😹😹💙 I'm learning Japanese too.
almost always train tickets are on my phone Thank you thank you:))
Amazing😀
I suppose most of the problems are related to me as a Thai people, except for the strange numbers calling. I work as a doctor, so they are often important calls for consulting that I should answer.
We also in Egypt jogging the zebra road and apologizing the drivers, you aren't alone British people. 😂
I can't believe listen to your podcast twice at 6am when I on my way to go to work, the topic is really fun and the second one, I tried to catch what I missed #mypoorenglish wkwk
Yes I will say something like don’t mind the mess as I can imagine my friends are usually a lot tidier than me!
Hi Im from Poland And exactly have the same as you. situation at the airport when you try to Look normal not like a drug smuggler or someone like that 🤣 even though I have nothing which is not illegal 🤣 great episod guys :) a lot of fun and a lot of learning😁
😁😁😁this was such a good laugh 😆! Thanks Luke and big thanks to your wonderful guest Michael👍❤️! You brightened up my day ☀️😊 When you read that Green corridor tweet, I was like yes, my feelings exactly😂! And yes, to a taxi driver I always say exactly that “Anywhere here is fine, thanks“😉 Also, I start making rustling sounds and micro-movements on a bus before I have to disturb🙃 I sure feel relieved after having shown my ticket to the ticket inspector😆 So yes, I suppose these are universal things. Kind regards from Almaty, Kazakhstan 🇰🇿
When I enter into a shop with no intention to buy anything,I would try to avoid an eye contact with the shop assistant, once I decide to leave ,I will try to pass by the shop assistant if possible with a slower pace, hands away from any part of my body 😂😂😂 Luke was so exaggerating but it’s true 😅😅😅
I enjoyed listening to this episode, and I think the social awkward is a global thing but still u british people take it a little bit to the extreme 😅 thank u Luke.
I did at least 90% what mentioned in the podcast except "I think it's the right amount" coz feel like asking ppl not to count, trust problem.
The situation of skateboard made me laughing as I thought I am only the one who's feeling and thinking that stuff, also I don't know what I do when I wear a sweatshirt or whatever without pockets or when I don't catch my phone in my hand, I don't know what should I do with my hands, and these tiny things are big problems for me actually. 😂💔💔 Enjoying the podcast.. thanks Luke and Michael very much.
😂😂😂it has always been extremely funny to hear our teacher Luke to share his experiences 😂😂😂the poor Japanese guy working in the bank who just disappeared without saying a word so quickly 😂😂😂if I were him at least I would make an excuse to leave however terribly uncomfortable.the scene may also have been unforgettable for him😅I hope he is well❤best wishes to him❤
He looks alike my accounting theory lecture. The gesture and face expression
26:18 'the only way out is through'))
Hi Luke and Michael, thanks for the podcast. Where are you from?
When I walk through "Nothing to declare" I don't feel anything, really. But when Russian police officers are around or traffic wardens, I feel like I've done something wrong and they are gonna get me now.
Hi Luck ! I think, awkwardness is the opposite side of caring for people.
Good luck
Thank you, guys, for nice content and lot of laughs)) And yes, I also say to a taxi driver: anywhere here is fine😅🙈As if I feel awkward to say that he should go ahead a little bit.
Very interesting conversation! In all situation that you have been talking about i would be answered the same. From Russia
Walking across the zebra crossing I tend to speed up a tiny bit but I don’t feel pressured to
That's not just British we also do these things in Hungary :D Thank you I laughed a lot :)
The taxi drivers also expect to take you to the exact location! What a culture shock
I will be nervous on that time.
One of the most help full for me .lam from bangladesh
I’m from Brazil and it’s basically the same, except leaving shopping mall without buying anything.
Let me tell you Luke that l always listen yo you while l am working oyt at the gym great by the way
Hey Luke, where can I buy a mag with your logo? Like the one on the bookshelf behind you
Www.teacherluke.co.uk/merch
No way, I never felt anything walking out the Nothing to declare!!
The vast majority of these situations is relatable to every human being, I guess 😆
I don't know if it's due to the fact that I am French but I never felt awkward 🤭. I tell exactly to the taxi driver where my door is. I do not hesitate to tell the person in the aisle row that I am leaving the train now so that they need to stand up.
It depends on the personality of the person to be awkward sometimes means that the personne doesn't have confidence on himself .
11:30 hahaha interesting
Me in Uk I had an awkward moment. I was in charge of the breakfast in Whatley Manor. One customer ask me, can I have an over easy egg? I did not know what was that. First I said yes but I did not understand. I moved in the kitchen and asked the chef. He told me it's an egg 3 minutes on one side and 3 minutes on the other side. Alright now I know.
I like it 😉
I've always the same problem In the departure, I'm very nervous too, thinking my papers are not all right or I maybe forgot something importante, and they're going to 1sk me to go back home. I think it's human nature.
I will wait for the cashier to count. It makes the cashier feel better, secure and not worried that the amount is wrong
