mhmhm, have to agree, i'll wait how the new m5 is, depending on that and some test drives i will get either one. as a long time beamer driver i have to admit i do dig the interior, just not sure about the weird thing in the middle compares to the i drive which i personally find superior, i still didn't like it on the 2017 e series which drove for some time, but we'll see i may be swayed to the benz depending on the new m5 interior

Absolutely. I have owned my fair share of Mercs, like a CLK, a first gen CLS and the previous E class. I now got myself a W213 with the exclusive interior (code P22), and honestly it's the closest thing to a Bentley you can get for under 100 grand. It's so nice, the open wood trim is gorgeous, it beats any Audi, BMW, Lexus and Porsche hands down. And it beats the old W212 E class by a mile. Plus, at least in my opinion, it does one of the best jobs at integrating huge flatscreens without making it look like a bolted on iPad. He is right about the ride though, even in Germany with Air Body Control it's quite busy - the W212 was softer. But the handling is just great. And the PHEV options are even a fun alternative, rather than a diluted rational decision over a 6 cyl. Overall it's just a great car.
Gonna be fun to see the comparison between this and the latest BMW M5.
An AMG and an M Car have never been that close on the paper sheet, it'll be very interesting and probably down to details
+Thr Truth "F1 Experience" doesn't mean much here, for these class of cars you'd be better off with a GT Racing team than anything else. The last gen E63 S was slightly slower on a track despite having everything going for it as it was AWD, lighter and more powerful than the F10, it just had a lesser gearbox. This turn the F90 is lighter but has a power deficit, and they are both 4WD. It will mainly come down to who has calibrated their setup better. But keep in mind this is the E63 S vs the base M5, whatever happens there is still the Competition Package and possibly a CS or even a CSL to come.
TheBimmerMan well your username shows that you are a bmw fanboy so its kind of not surprising for you to say that. Looks are subjective. For me e class has better looking front and m5 has better looking rear. I like interior of e class more but I like the seats of m5 more. Sound I prefer e63 but not by much and handling is on par for both cars alteast for now until we get a proper comparison. So they are actually really closely matched. So prefrence is the ultimate deciding factor.
The Truth 😴😴😴no the amgs are the same and haven't changed for years and it's getting pretty boring: v8 and too much power. Imo the m5 looks better, and it's not greatly overpriced like every other Mercedes for value for money amg is way down the pecking order, previous generation m5s are so much more exciting and at least have a bit of variety. As for going electric, I must of missed something because they've got 1 electric car and 1 hybrid, because Audi and Mercedes hadn't done it yet, besides the new project 1 has electric motors that boost a 1.6l engine to over 1000hp. No excuses being made, Mercedes have just overtaken BMW in the sales category after 12 years at the top. Don't get me wrong if I didn't want the m5 the E63 would be second on the list, this is just my opinion though.
+Callum Penman Lmao dude did you even watch the video? Chris said that the e63 feels a lot like an m car. He specifically addressed your point. Amg are no longer just muscle cars, no they are actually capable drivers car that can handle properly with proper transmissions. He even talked about how this is especially true with the 4wd system which kicks at just the right time to give that confident handling. Looks are subjective and you're crazy if you talk about either of these being overpriced since they are both very expensive and anyone cross shopping these cars won't be worrying about the price difference as much as you are. LMAO you are truely a clueless bmw fanboy. THe m5 and e63 are very closely matched, both v8s, both 4wd, both great exhausts, both sporty and fun to drive. They are very darn close and closely priced too. Mercedes has the B class electric cars as well as the sls e cell to name a few as well as their upcoming eq line up.....and they have had hybrid cars for quite a while such as the s class plug in hybrid. In fact speaking of hybrid they have a project one hypercar which uses an f1 inspired hybrid train. Bmw wasn't the top 12 years first of all. It was top the most within a 10 years span. In otherwords it wasn't always the top for the entire duration, its just that it was mostly at the top during that time. Big difference. Theres nothing wrong with liking the bmw more but your reasons for liking it are very biased and come from simply hating on mercedes.....atleast thats how it looks like from the tone of your comment.
Took possession of my 2018 on March 14 and am still astounded by this vehicle each and every time I engage with it. Unbelievable vehicle.

STR TV the m5 will have a similar system but between us, which car would you prefer to own. I'd pick the e class as it has changed from the older gen.
Kaisuke971 from my experience with bmw, the modes don't change anything at all in the dynamics.
I deleted my comment because i figured it kinda looked like we were talking about two different things, but anyway the AWD mode is 50/50 while by default while the AWD Sport is 80/20 by default (both variable), and with the DSC off it allows slip at the rear but still catches with the front. There are test drives of the prototypes that explain this
The new ///M5 also offers a 100% RWD mode that will stay locked with NOTHING going to the front until you change it back. Tough choice for me!!!

I could never watch the old Top Gear. Now this is my favorite show. The content is creative, well written and naturally presented, and edited in a way which is easy to the eyes. More straightforward love of motoring. Less dramatization and no more forced unnatural mundane humor. Thank you Chris.

Definitely! I've got a 8 year old C63 and I'm LOVING it. In a few years I'll upgrade to a newer C63, then the next step is this one... As long as the electronics show some longevity. AMG engines are built solid so I'm not worried about that.

Clarkson, Hammond and May as a trio made Top Gear a feel good and comedic automotive show. By and large, most people could relate to the show because the three of them were so funny and effectively desaturated the thick technical details of cars to make it palatable for the masses. But for times when you want a genuine, proper, no-messing-around and technically comprehensive review of cars, I think Chris Harris is second to none. The way he effortlessly weaves into the video review all of the nitty gritty stuff from physical measurements of the car to kerb weight to engine specifications is simply sublime. Only Chris Harris could so tastefully incorporate that much of detail into a car review video without making it boring. How he draws parallels with other manufacturers and cars in terms of e.g. the engineering aspects and driving experience is just amazing. It gives the viewer such a holistic impression of the car in review. It’s direct evidence of the man’s vast experience in driving all types of cars. Thumbs up.
