This is the ultimate BMW vs Mercedes showdown. We wanted to find out which is quickest - the new 2018 F90 BMW M5, with its 600hp 4.4-litre twin turbo V8, or the Mercedes-AMG E63 S and its 612hp 4.0-litre twin turbo V8. Both have loads of space, both are super luxurious, both cost almost £90,000 and both have clever all-wheel-drive systems which can be switched into rear-wheel-drive only mode. But we didn't use that for this carwow challenge. This video is all about acceleration and stopping performance. Mat Watson will be driving the new BMW M5 - and he likes to win at these things. So which will take the glory - the BMW M5 or the the Mercedes E63 S? Watch the drag race to find out.

    • TheHudlm For me today, the E63s must at the same time be measured against the M5 and the M5 comp. It is necessary that mercedes produce a version equivalent to the competition (can be with the facelift). But this E63s is formidable, it is older than the Bmw and can be equivalent to two M5 😈

  • Well, first M cars were never about straight line speed, that's always AMG and RSs' selling point. Second, there's no doubt the E63s will be faster, just look at the numbers. Third, Sport Auto magazine and their pro driver tested these two cars on Nürburgring. M5 did it in 7:38.92 and E63S in 7:45.19. Enough said. We live in a wonderful time where we can choose from many great cars based on our preferences, why argue and talk down to others?

  • Love the AMG. An amazing machine and brilliant interior. But the M5 comp in the other video, got it off the line, and seemed to be pulling on the roll. Plus Mercs blew it by not offering a 6 speed. We all know the auto is more efficient now, but c'mon, offer a damn manual!

I prefer the looks of the BMW but I prefer the interior of the Mercedes. But you're here trying to claim that the BMW is better in every way and it only lost because it had a shit driver and that's completely false. It was a straight line in semi-auto cars for fuck sake. Plant your foot, click a button when you're close to the rev limiter, simple. He done exactly that, the BMW still lost.. twice. The Merc was clearly the better performing car here, and that's ok because this is an E63S, not an E63. Arguably, it wasn't a fair fight. The BMW still has a chance for redemption with an M5 Competition package, so go get the cream, rub it around your bunghole, and wait patiently for the rematch to satisfy your fanboy ego.

  • People were saying the M5 will be faster but there you go, E63s is still faster even if it was introduced much earlier than the BMW. I still think the M5 is a great car and there's really just a very tiny difference between them but you have to give it to AMG because it was the first: twin turbo V8 with 600hp and AWD with optional RWD.
