When a sadistic serial killer begins murdering key political figures in Gotham, Batman is forced to investigate the city's hidden corruption and question his family's involvement.
Cast:
▶ Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman: A reclusive billionaire who obsessively protects Gotham City as a masked vigilante to cope with his traumatic past.
▶ Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle / Catwoman: A nightclub waitress, drug dealer, and cat burglar who meets Batman while searching for her missing roommate; her moral ambiguity challenges Batman's black-and-white view of good and evil.
▶ Paul Dano as Edward Nashton / Riddler: A forensic accountant who is inspired by Batman to become a serial killer who targets elite Gotham citizens and livestreams his crimes. He seeks to "unmask the truth" about Gotham, taunting Batman and law enforcement with riddles.
▶ Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon: An ally of Batman in the Gotham City Police Department (GCPD). He is the only GCPD officer whom Batman trusts, and they work together to solve the Riddler case.
▶ John Turturro as Carmine Falcone: A Gotham crime lord and Selina's father.
▶ Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson: Gotham's district attorney.
▶ Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth: Batman's butler and mentor, though they have a hostile relationship and rarely speak.
▶ Colin Farrell as Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot / Penguin: Falcone's chief lieutenant who operates the Iceberg Lounge, the nightclub where Selina works. He is not yet the crime kingpin he is depicted as in the comics, and dislikes being referred to as the Penguin.
I love that they actually showed a huge flaw of Batman's detective skills just to show how young Bruce is.
Hey, how ya doin' 😃
@@thehumblepotatoreborn9313 He's "meant to"? Says who? This is a new universe with a new take on the character. You think that beating up thugs for 2 years gives you encyclopedic detective knowledge? God forbid we have a protagonist that makes mistakes and learns from them instead of a power fantasy for 13 year olds lmao
Honestly, Year One Batman is so much more interesting than the Veteran Bat to me.
@@jim4686 every “fan” complained Batman should know everything right off the bat and never make mistakes. They wanted the usual Gary Stu Batman who can outthink Darkseid lol
@@jim4686 Also, I don't think Spanish is very useful or common in Gotham if they don't recognize something that simple. Why would Bruce learn something that's not useful for the "cleaning Gotham" dream?
I like how Batman and Gordon are throwing all their theories at him, he then laughs at them for how wrong they are.
“WoRLd’S gReATeST DeTeCTiVeS…!”
In the comics, Penguin actually gives Batman information every now and then on other criminals because he's savvy enough to know that as long as he's useful nothing can touch him.
@@daigneauray7087 yep
@@daigneauray7087 Penguin was always the type to play ball so his competitors won’t go too long without the Bat’s loving attention.
Yep Batman overlooks some of his activities in return.
I don't know why, but I wasn't surprised that the Penguin speaks Spanish. He just seems like the kind of guy who picks up skills here and there. All the more reason not to underestimate him.
I mean it makes sense running some illegal operations he would pick up a few languages here and there.

Agreed
Colin Farrell was excellent as Penguin
Dude I didn’t even know it WAS Colin Farrell until after the movie, but he really was.
Clueless and blinking like an infant epic scene 😂🤣 penguin was adorable
I completely agree. Colin Farrell definitely stole the show in this scene. And since this is a Batman movie, what’s funny is that he was originally going to play Batman in a movie that was set to come out in 2004 but got canceled. That movie was Batman vs. Superman, not to be confused with Zack Snyder‘s movie with almost the same name.
he is best penguin
I Agreed, Colin Ferrell did an Excellent Job as Oz/Penguin in The Batman.
I fucking love this scene so much, just the "Good cop, Batshit cop", " *OPEN YOUR EYES!!!* " and "No habla espanol?" Got me fucking crying
And don’t forget that “COME ON!!!” xD

also the penguin waddling while handcuffed was a great touch
@@jeanlundi2141 ok beta soy boy
Honestly this was the scene that actually made me respect this version of the Penguin. Most of this scene he isn’t trying to mess with them at all and seems genuinely disgusted when he sees what happened to Gordon’s partner. It’s an interesting little way to inject more complexity into his character while also moving the plot along.
The actor was on point with this Penguin. Also, he stole the whole movie.
@Greg Elchert this goes back to the joke about Gotham villains getting really great employee packages for working for them vs working for something like Waynetech

to be fair colin farrell is one of the most underrated hollywood actors around.
@@viperatech If being a universally acclaimed, international A-list actor that's been in high demand for decades is being "underrated" then count me in, I want to be underrated too.
Good news for you pal, Collin currently has a Penguin series for himself in the making on HBO Max.
Rat with wings. You know what that sounds like? A freaking bat!! 😂😂😂
Oh....... ELLLLL rata...... I am going to start saying that whenever I misunderstand what someone says.
It's da freakin bat
1:01 Is so funny because the Penguin is a mobster and has probably seen horrific deaths, but acts grossed out by the picture 😂
His gang most likely just kill people by strangling, shooting or stabbing them and haven't done it in gruesome ways and not used to seeing faces eaten by rats.
He’s a mobster but he ain’t no psychopath that would kill anyone in a brutal way like the riddler did
There is a difference between the mob and a cartel. A mob will murder you and or your family. A cartel will do it slowly, take pictures, and beat off while it's happening.
@@pavannair6469you guys really have no idea what the penguin is capable of or what he done, he’s not your average mobster lol he’s done way worse things than what happened in the picture
@@AbzinoTheFirstYeah, but I believe Riddler is depicted as more of a murderous sociopath that mutilates his victims whereas it seems like this Penguin is more straight to the point. Maybe he doesn’t like doing his own dirty work 🤷🏻♂️.

After seeing the demo footage and the first time he fully wore the makeup, he actually scared me. Man turned into The Penguin.

To be honest, that scene really gets me with Gordon. This version is really fierce on both sides and kind of human too. And that Spanish error scene made me intrigued with what outcome to that after the interrogation.
the actor playing gordon seems like someone doing a parody of a police commissioner stereotype in this scene. the guy who yells "YOURE A LOOSE CANNON AND YOURE OFF THE FORCE!".

This Gordon is actually competent and you realise why Batman teams up with him and counts on him. Nolan's Gordon was a bumbling incompetent fool.
@@Flameb0Yup, the actor is trying way way waaayyyy too hard with that gruff sounding voice it sounds like he's trying to be batman
The penguin in this movie perfectly captures a lot of the wacky, zany humour that offsets the dark and gritty world of Batman. Hope we get more of him in the next movie.
There's supposedly a serie incoming which depicts him as a main character

“Open your eyes” Gordon requested calmly.
Gordon shouted calmly at the top of his voice.
As a Spanish speaker, I immediately saw through the Rata misconceptions but was pleasantly surprised with this scene. 11/10 movie
Me too. Sadly the latinamerican translation misses some of the game of words you hear in the original.
@@Madheim777 Yeah, sadly somethings aren't able to translate when it involves word play. Not sure how they'd switch that clue and have it still make sense.
@@Igarappappa A lot of times they just change the language completely. I don't know if that was the case for Batman, but a lot of times if there's let's say a Spanish phrase then in Spanish dub they'll change it to French or something. Unless of course there're relevant Spanish speaking characters
Can you explain this to me like I'm 5? I really can't understand what's the difference between el and la... I've read the el is for masculine and la is feminine but how can you tell if it is masculine or feminine? (If it's just a word)
@@grumpyeverytime It's random. Some word are masculine and some word are feminine (in french, rat is always masculine and mouse is always feminine... even when they are the opposite gender). Gordon and Batmam were on a wrong lead : they thought the riddle was about finding who is the "rata alada". Even if "rata alada" was meant for batman, the actual riddle was to find that "you are el" can be read "URL". And the mistakes between "el" and "la" was just a clue
“What is this Riddler stupid or something” 😭😂😂
One thing I love about this scene is at the end of it (which was sadly cut off) is that with Penguin’s feet tied together, he forced to waddle over like an actual penguin.

The most unintentionally hilarious moment in this movie - “CMON WHAT ARE YA SHOWING ME?!”
It wasn't unintentional.
This whole scene feels like ,,video Parody” to Batman. You know, where Bats -Dumb.
Is it helicopter? Harvey Dent... Can we trust him?
I think the funniest thing about this scene, is that it follows right after the big dumb batmobile car chase on the highway. All that property damage (and possible deaths) to catch the penguin, all leading to a dead end cause Batman and Gordon didn't know proper spanish. Its poetic how that chase scene was so pointless.
That's what makes this scene more ridiculous. I died laughing when I was in the theater, The Penguin went through all that for a mistake that's not his 💀

When Penguin teaches Batman basic Spanish I couldn’t stop laughing. 🤣😂😅I speak Spanish and was perturbed when I thought the movie writers messed up something so basic-really pleased when it was part of the plot).
But "el rata" is correct in some contexts lmao if it's a nickname for a guy, which it was in this movie.
Alfred: “his Spanish isn’t perfect but I’m fairly certain this translates to You Are El Rata Alada” Bruce: “a rat with wings?” It’s just now he realizes the grammar mistake was intentional cause you are el sounds like URL

I love how the Batman villains draw direct inspiration from actual criminals. Penguin is similar to Al Capone. Riddler is similar to the Zodiac killer…
I love how batman's title of worlds greatest detective comes as a sarcastic insult in this version
One of the things I think is absolutely brilliant about this movie is, if you think about it, this movie also serves as Penguin’s origin story for how he started his rise as a crime boss.
I love how the prosthetics made Colin Farrell look like Robert DeNiro.
Collin nailed this role. At first I was iffy about his more "New York mob" sounding voice for Penguin but it worked.
"You guys are a hell of a duet here. Why don't you start harmonizing?"

Good cop, batship cop LMAO
I was watching this movie in Puerto Rico and when Penguin said " NO HABLAS ESPANOL FELAS?" the cinema burst in laughter, it was so funny.
that penguin accent is great.
“Good cop/Batshit cop!” The joker would be proud of that joke.
Penguin feels like the exact type of character who would've just had a harrowing car chase and crash that could've killed him, and still would be mouthing off to the guys responsible for it.
Yeah I love Penguin being an unrepentantly mouthy asshole to everyone in this movie lmao
@@jorts_master69And it falls right in line with the universal character traits of the Penguin, chief among them being his inferiority complex from years of bullying and torment for his appearance. It won’t allow him to let any kind of disrespect or insult sit with him without doing something about it. Hence why he was ready to kill Falcone at the end of this film for just a petty insult.
Having both Gordon and Batman talk like they're constantly constipated was a weird directing choice.
“Holy God what are you showing me” has got to be the funniest moment in the movie

I absolutely love his reaction at 01:02 ! Hilarious! I still can't get over it, that this is Colin Farrel under that mask.
Love how the reference of el rata alada shifts from Penguin, a flightless bird, to Batman, who is a mammal that flies, before going to Falcone, who ratted out Maroni. Then finally, to Batman again, because he was Riddler's unwitting co-conspirator who brought Falcone to the light.
