  • This actually felt like a real car chase, with both Penguin and Batman messing up and getting into crashes with other cars in traffic. It's messy but realistic. You can feel Batman's frustration as well as Penguins' frightened panic. In other movies, it's always perfectly choreographed, smooth driving. Here it felt like a true chase. Props to the crew and stunt coordinators.

My favorite is when Penguin shoots an entire clip into the window and Batman just stares him down the entire time. It’s not a question of IF he’ll catch you, it’s only a question of WHEN. Plus the Batmobile is so damn cool. Nolan’s was an government-contracted project that required an entire R&D department, while this is a frankly insane armored-up muscle car with the equivalent of a jet engine in the back made by one dude in his basement. It’s scary not because it looks like a tank, but because the guy who made it is clearly unhinged, and he’s coming for YOU.

Screaming the revs out in the red zone. - While the Batmobile’s engine sounds deep, throaty, and nowhere close to trying too hard. You start with a wheel-mounted shot of penguin's car getting rammed by the batmobile, then the camera follows the wheel as it starts to fly into the air. Cut to Penguin's interior. You get the sense that he's rotating, but you aren't sure how severe it is. Cut to the wheel-mounted camera on the batmobile, as it swings around and reveals the highway to us, just before you see Penguin's spinning car drop into frame. The chase had a great way of building suspense and awe, even after an initial collision took place, such as with the semi trucks. Great stuff.

    • It is both a throwback to the Adam West vehicle with the turbine, as well as standing on its own. Its by far the most realistic of the batmobiles, even the turbine has been done plenty. Its also a reflection of its driver - incredibly strong, durable, aggressive - but also unwieldly, not fully controlled and like Batman himself who is a warning to watch the shadows, it serves as a warning as well with its ability to terrify and intimidate, which is as useful as its other abilities. Its also a vehicle I can totally see a mentally deranged rich boy building.

  • The sparse diologue in this scene I think is often overlooked, but pairs so perfectly with the visuals. Having penguin say, "I got you, you freakin' psycho" before the batmobile emerges from the flames is utterly chilling - it cements the image of the Batman in the minds of criminals like the penguin. In reality? Batman is an insane person in a bat costume - but that makes him even scarier, espeically to people like the penguin. He can try anything - he can shoot him, stab him, beat him, or blow him up with a tanker trailer (because thats what it takes to kill a man) - it doesn't matter. If the Batman is after you, hes going to get you. He isnt human.
