Antique Hatchet Restoration with AWESOME VIKING modifications
Restoration of an antique hatchet with AWESOME VIKING engravings and modifications. See the amazing outcome!
THE ANTIQUE HATCHET
I do not know much about it. I got it in a bundle with 8 very rusty and molded old axes no doubt that this is an antique restoration though. The handle looks like something from an old hammer and is definitely not the original handle.
THE RESTORATION PROCESS
I disassembled the hatchet from the handle and sandblasted the metal. There was a lot of cracks in the metal, so I decided to reshape and cut of some metal instead of welding it. I did go for a more Nordic battle viking hatchet look and I think that I accomplished just that. I also did a lot of grinding and polishing to get rid of all the scars and craters after many years of hard work. I hardened the metal in my hardening oven, and I used a new handle for this hatchet and fitted it to the head very well.
THE LASER ENGRAVINGS
I’d sketched some Nordic Viking symbols, The Vegvisir (which shows the way), the triskelion which symbolize the 3 horns in the myth of Odin and some viking knots with a dragon who was often seen engraved in the Vikings long boats. I used many hours on the laptop to get this design right and after that I engraved it into the metal. I also engraved the viking triskelion on the metal piece inserted in the handle.
I am VERY satisfied with this restoration video and I hope that you enjoy it too.

I absolutely adore how you restore things to truly honour the object - without losing the actual heart of the piece by trying to make them look brand new and completely unblemished. You can see they have a story! And it’s so cool to see you also take on projects where you can be a bit more creative and thrown in your own designs and modifications onto them. Thanks for sharing your process!
It’s absolutely amazing. The laser engraving is a great addition but even without it the ax would be cool
thank you very much Mike :)

Man, this looks amazing. I’ve only recently discovered these restoration videos and would love to learn how to do it. I simply have no idea where to start.
thanks a lot for watching. I am self taugt my best tip is to start with something simple which doesn't require so many tools :)
I'm convinced this man could restore the Titanic if he had a big enough sandblaster
Lol
Probably. They need to build a big tank round the titanic, reinforce it then drain it like in minecraft, lol.
Actualy the titanic is like dust now if you touch it it wil colapse so its impossible to ever get him up again its just like dust
It would be cool if they did like a resin case round it to protect it from further damage.

Just imagine if someone from the 10th Century saw that laser doing the engraving, they’d think it was a gift from the gods themselves. Pretty cool even today.
Wait, you mean it’s not?????? I thought it was Thor’s work!!!
Whose to say this isn't how the gods did it?
He really just broke his pencil so he could show us his cool sharpener and you know what,,, I respect that

AR is the best restoration channel in my opinion...the production makes the process seem both intelligent and easy to understand. Add to that, engaging and fun somehow, though slow moving, keeps the observers interest without flagging... I wish the guy doing them would do workshops for those interested, add competition for restoration wanna be's, and have the winner join him in his workshop and get walked through one complete restoration project... This Viking hatchet was....well..er..well..... awesome..awesomely restored...

Beautiful hatchet. I love how it came out!
thank you so much :)
Respect is due, because you respected the steel. Proper heat treatment so it is still a proper working tool and also the redesign to remove the flaws and imperfections of age that would have weakened it. iI it had just been that it would have been a decent restoration. The added artwork just took it to a whole new level. I love it when a heritage piece is restored to it's former use, but when that is not possible due to age deterioration, then turning it into a whole new tool with added artwork is genius level reworking. Thank you for a great video, and for giving new life to an old tool.
Thank you so much 👍
