RARE Axe Restoration - With VIKING engravings
Very rare Axe Restoration. This time I restore an antique axe and add some very awesome viking modifications and engravings to the metal.
ABOUT THIS AXE
I really do not know much about this axe. I had it for a couple of years, waiting for the right time to make the restoration video. I bought it from a guy who found it here in Sweden.
THE RESTORATION PROCESS
I started by sandblasting the axe and removed it from the handle who was “homemade” of some worthless wood. I welded the strange hole there was in the metal. I also changed the form on the head to better fit a real handle. I chose a beautiful and long hickory wood handle to get the Nordic Viking battle axe look. I also hardened the metal and gave it a black look by dipping it in oil.
THE NORDIC VIKING ENGRAVINGS
I made a very cool viking laser engraving of a Nordic Eagle who has a role in the Nordic Mythology. I also did some very beautiful decorations in both ends of the axe shaft also with Nordic Viking engravings. The one attached on the top Is some random Viking knots and the one in the bottom of the shaft is the Valknut “The knot of slain warriors”
I am VERY satisfied with this restoration video and I hope that you enjoy it too. Please subscribe if you want to see more cool upcoming projects 🙂 And DON’T forget to see the OLD NORDIC HAMMER RESTORATION - • Old NORDIC hammer Rest... Thanks for watching my channel. See you soon.

You can't imagine how happy I was to see you reshape the eye from a circle to an oval, my biggest pet peeve with restoration channels like this one is that while the creators are obviously extremely skilled with their tools and knowledgeable of their craft, they simply don't know how to make a weapon and instead just make what is essentially an art object.
thanks for your comment :)

Are we sure the hole wasn’t purposeful? Because that hole looked like it was bored through, and seemed to be perfectly circular.

Even long after the end of the Viking era, Viking descendants stayed famous for their axe skill. The axe symbol stands for strength and bravery. Its deeper meaning can be interpreted as the ability of one's heart or mind to cut through any obstacles on their life path. By the way, I really love this restoration! You work so hard for these cool videos!❤️❤️.
thank you very much for your kind words :)
100% the old stick. Personally for me the handle of the weapon holds as much history, if not more, than the axe head so seeing a truly antique piece modernized is really cool!

I've always wondered if watching welding through a camera is bad for your eyes. I have to assume anything too bright whether it's in person or camera is probably bad for your eyes but the actual ultraviolet light that does damage to your eyes does not come through the camera.
It would not damage your eyes to watch me weld on screen but the blurring makes it easier to watch :)
@@AwesomeRestorations Considering I watch your videos in the dead of night, with my phone brightness at max, with sensitive eyes (I'm not smart I know), it's a big thing for me that you did it, and I thank you
Unless your monitor is as bright as the weld there’s zero danger in watching a recording.
@@ConernicusRex dude we get it there's no damage but it still stings at the middle of the night with a bright screen
This is the first time I've ever seen someone put a screen over the welding sparks. I really appreciate that detail. Also, very talented 👍

@@theburninator888 some people are sensitive to light even if it’s through a screen so good to keep measures

Yeah because everyone's monitor or phone screen emits ultraviolet, and infrared radiation... Lol 🙃
That is an amazing restoration and project. It’s a great addition to an otherwise plain axe, that may have been discarded or overlooked. Now it is a treasure. You’ve truly made something out of almost nothing. Great video.

@@nicolausteslaus How gay friendly? Can you elaborate?
@@nicolausteslaus ?
No, he didn’t. An arc flash can damage your eyes in person but on your screen you’re gonna need to up the brightness around 10,000x to have a danger of any kind.
As someone who only has time to watch youtube right before bed, in the dark, the welding filter is something that not only sets your videos apart and shows you care of your fans, it also puts the quality of your channel in a Superior tier
many thanks :)
I couldn’t agree more, the tint on the welding parts was a life saver.
Or should I say.. an eye saver
I agree. The little specifics make big difference
While i agree that it's nice he does that, facts are there is no danger to the eyes in watching video of welding arcs. But it's still nice he adds a filter though.
I suspect, after years of working as a blacksmith in Sweden, that this axe was made less than 100 years ago.
The Lil black box for the glare was awesome, thank you! I love the sounds from the video. Also, the captions are great. Thank you.

@@teepeeX he already lost authenticity with all the modifications and engravings he did. His goal was to make it badass and it is definitely 10x cooler then what it originally was. Original Viking owner would approve. 👍
I like that you didnt flatten the blades faces. I also like that you dont kill the wood by stabilizing with resin. The wood tskes the oil so thankfully. Great work.

Yeah I agree i was a little sad when he used the new one
Wood warps and decays.. better to make a new handle for centuries to come
I'm just watching this and the comments gave it away which is fine, But the old wood has a better shape (more classical) Than that super straight piece of hickory (which has nicer grains !) So suppose its what you want in the long run hehehe, great job on the Axe looks fantastic !

Nice video. But since the axe is basically an artifact and a “decoration”, replacing the original wood handle was a mistake I think. Keeping the blade a shiny silver would have been cool too. Still nice result.
I agree, the old handle had the sweat of the original owner and life force.
i dont think thats a real viking axe lol. looks like the blade was welded to the round part that connects to the wood
It's a replica, not an actual viking axe. If it was a real viking axe it would be in a museum.

Great job cleaning up a old replica axe. These days we have all sorts of handy tools like Sanders and grinding wheels , the true craftsmen used none of these things theirs was a real skill they had metal and extremely hot coals and a hammer and maybe a grinding stone operated with a foot pedal which would have been a luxury for most blacksmiths.
Ahh lazer engraving, just like the ancient vikings did it. They harvested them from lazer raptors.
yes ;)
Laser raptors, just like in Kung Fury
