$12 Rusty Hatchet Restored into Something Amazing
In this video I restored an old and rusty hatchet and I made some custom to it, called "snake skin". The outcome is priceless , enjoy the video !!
About restoration video :
I bought this hatchet in order to restore it and the price was 10 euro/12$. The time of restoration was three weeks for physical work , filming and editing and the total price for this restoration project was around $60.
About restoration project:
I start the restoration by removing the old handle then I sandblasted the proper hatchet. After sandblasting I saw that was too many pits on the metal and I decided to make a small custom because a complete polishing would have meant losing a lot of material. After I restored the metal I start doing a new handle for the hatchet. I worked to many hours on this restoration videos but the outcome was priceless.
I like very much this restoration project and I hope also you have the same opinion.

I was almost not going to watch this video, because it’s another axe. There’s only so many I can handle. I’m glad I did watch this though. That was outstanding work mate. I especially loved the snakeskin look. 👍🇦🇺
I pined this comment. Thank you very much my friend for confidence 🍀👍🏻🤗
Shed Man X :- "Handle" 😋
@@blueeyeswhitedragon9839 I was thinking the same thing. Lol
Cool Again Restoration It was very cool. Tasty .
Glad you liked sir 👍🏻🍀
I'm not sure if I'm more surprised by how great the finished product looked, or by the fact that someone had the balls to charge $12 for the pre-restoration axe.
12 in local currency? ;)
10€
Rip off.
My first thought
People gotta eat
Step 1: buy old 12 dollar axe Step 2: buy 20k worth of tools Step 3: restore for free
😅😅😅
haha "Well I had the 20k worth of tools just laying around... got a bit bored.. next thing I know, I saw this axe, see..."
Now show us how to turn a $12 axe into $20,000 worth of equipment 😋
@pan pizza because you gave your patients lobotomies and they now work for free?
@pan pizza Well, I do like to peruse the local hospital for left behind stragglers that I can sneak into my white van and secrete back to my dungeo.... lab. I have only got 6 for now, but soon I will have lots of patients. OO
Man this guy doesn’t go to a hardware store, the hardware store comes to him.
😂😂 can be true 🙈
This guy uses $35,000 of equipment to do the same job I do with an electric drill and wire brush.
He definitely has a VERY complete sanding collection...
I was sad and depressed all the day. "Every day smile" made me smile :)

Thanks man 😇
I'm completely heartbroken today and this gave me a brief break to experience joy

Gladly I will reply 👍🏻
Yes absolutely
I love how you have all the steps. And the humor is priceless. Keep up the amazing job. Love watching these transformations. From one restorer to another 👍
Thank you very much Emily 🤗🤗
This video focused me and kept my interest the entire time. The axe was beautiful. Even more beautiful was the skill and care which produced it. I would love to be able to do something similar… amazing.
Multumesc frumos Gabriel 😊👍
Finally someone who doesn't just polishes everything shiny and calls it a day.
Amen!
Thank you guys 👍🏻👍🏻
Well on something very old or historical you need to try to bring it back to its original state without damaging it but on this case this is just amazing he turned a ordinary hatchet into a work of art
Thank you for your confidence Parker 🙏🏻👍🏻🍀
The fact that he used a sandblaster was pretty great. Most just grind and sand and grind and sand or soak it in something. Lot less time and work. Work smarter not harder.
This is the first time I've ever seen that kind of "snakeskin" finish look even decent, and it's gorgeous!
Glad you like it Stephen 👍🏻🍀
Nice job! I spend a lot of time in the bush here in Oz. There are old tools from prospectors all over the place, particularly in the gold fields. Some of them have been lying in the dust and mud since 1898, around the time of the first gold rushes, sometimes even earlier. Old picks, mattocks, pick-axes, hatchets and axes. Shovels are thinner and usually rusted and worn out and pretty useless. With the heavier metal tools, I actually like them as unrestored as I can keep them, excepting repairing edges, heads and points. The absolute best de-rusting is at an atomic level, by electrolysis. It only takes away the rust and no clean metal is ground or polished away. They seem to have acquired an exceptional hardness from years of baking in ground temperatures up to 50C in summers; either that or they were good steel to begin with. I get them back to a nice red-brown patina with all the inherited pits by electrolysis, and without sanding and grinding except for points and edges, which I grind by hand. Then a spot of oil and a new handle and they are done and are scattered all over the house as ornaments which have a practical use as well as talking points.
Nice! That's an old hatchet with bottle opener! My grandfather use to have one when I was young! He was opening our soft drink bottle with it!
Brilliant Idea with this pattern 🤯🥳🥰
Nice to hear that from you 👍🏻👍🏻🤗
Yeah really love the stone pattern.. great work.
Thanks 👍🏻🍀
@@CoolAgainRestoration gave me tryphobia
I hear about this issue . Sorry for that 👍🏻
Watching sandblasting is always so riveting. If KZhead had only one sandblasting video, that would be enough.
😅😅
In my case, it’s 11:51pm, I have already watched 5 axe sharpening/rebuilding videos and here I am. Either this one will put me to sleep or keep me awake for #7 axe video.
He straight up turned a rusty ole’ hatchet into a daedric dragonskin war axe
I don't think he had played Elder Scrolls games.
still tho
1:37 I honestly wasn’t in the best mood and that genuinely made me smile. Thank you for the reminder😁
Glad to hear that Lebron 👍🏻
There is some small irony here in using so many modern tools to craft a much simpler one. The end result however is very cool, and I enjoyed the journey.
As soon as you were finished sanding the handle….outstanding.
Thank you very much Marlon 😊

I would suggest open your online store where people can buy the antique articles from you.
I want to make this but in the near future. Thanks Shahid 👍🏻👍🏻
@@CoolAgainRestoration Good thought. It would be my pleasure if I could helping you on setting up an online website.
I second that idea and would buy your wares.
I wonder if auctioning it could also be a good idea? It might get you a higher price, I imagine it's a lot of effort/materials that really exceeds the market price of the axe, lol
It's so clean, looks brand new, never used. The hatchet came out nice too!
Thank you very much Steve 👍🏻
That snakeskin texture is beautiful! Very fun and inspiring to watch.
I was initially skeptical of your decision to dimple the sides because most people get an inferior-looking result. But your results were spectacular.
Glad you liked it! Thanks again 😊
The key to restoring a tool is knowing how it was made, and what it was used for. An axe is a simple thing, but many of the things done here have removed functionality. Granted, it was in the scrap pile, it was designed to do certain tasks that it can no longer do.
Not to mention that a “restoration” should return an object to its previous condition, a lot of extra work here
I feel it took away the original character. Clean it up, sharpen and a new handle. If your going to add to it then just find a newer ax head and have at it. Still beautiful work👍
Thanks Gary
I’ve never seen pitting dealt with in such a unique, beautiful and clever way... snakeskin eh? Really wonderful workmanship! 👍
Thank you very much Tim 👍🏻🍻
.....absolutely GORGEOUS!!
Thanks a lot 😊
I like the patina. Worth the meditation and reward.
I am still amazed by his cleaning the workshop skill everything is so clean as its new either machinery he used was so perfectly clean ....

"Sorry, but this is the longest finger." It's alright man. Do what you gotta to give corrosion the "finger." XD
😅😅😅👍🏻
No he had to finger the head 😅
Luckily, you still have ALL of them.
Sex!
When you made the “snake skin” on the axe my first thought of that was... The peopole that have the fear of holes are screaming!
And after I posting the video I heard for the first time about people who have fear of holes. Triphobia or something like that...never heard until now 🤷🏼♂️
@@CoolAgainRestoration i sort of have it. it's just that the holes look wrong so we get a disturbed feeling. I saw a vid where someone had holes in her hand and I just imagined feeling what her hand felt. eygh
Exceptional work, kudos to the artist...
Thanks 😊

Good to see someone who knows how to put a handle on an axe or hammer, let alone make one. Your scaling is amazing, great work.
Glad you liked and thank you very much Tom 👍🏻
The axe itself looks very similar to my grandfathers axe that was used in Norway for ship building and cabin making. Next time the handle is out, check behind the blade side in it for markings. Beautiful job!
Thanks and glad you liked it 😊

Dude I just love people. Like. This dude goes to a flea market and goes woah. I can make this hatchet into an even cooler hatchet. I go to a thrift store and I see a curtain and I’m like woah. That’d be a coolest fucking jacket. My friend finds old books and refurbishes them. Like. We’re all little gremlins trying to get our grubby hands on random things and I think that’s amazing.
The "Broke, but crafty and a lot of time on their hands," archetype.
I usually try to make things befofe i buy one from the store. Had some cool sucesses and some fails. Lol always learn something. Worth it to try every time.
Another piece of work. The ax snake print is beautiful. I'm a fan.
Glad to hear that Olga 🤗

It's NOT a creation...it is a restoration. He did a grand job of it but did nothing "new"... With a shed full of nice tools he would've struggled to produce a failure. Good job though!
Thanks Patrick 👍🏻👍🏻

I recently cleaned up a 62 year old knife that one's the rust was removed the petina and piting wouldn't affect the strength so it just looks like a well take care of but we'll used old knife
Same with a hand axe i pulled outta my grandparents garage, i couldnt bring myself to fully remove the patina because it has no adverse effect on the axe, and you can see the history on it, as it was used by my granparents and great grandparents. Took a lot of time on the decision though
Beautiful. Glad to see there are people that appreciate quality and craftsmanship.
Thanks Charles 😊
