  • How to make a dog killer sympathetic, according to Disney: 1: Dalmatians killed her mother 2: She doesn't kill dogs in this movie 3: She doesn't even dislike dogs 4: Actually just make her a different character altogether Nice one, guys. Another slam dunk.

    • well, I guess we are suppose to think of it like an alternative universe kindda thing, This Cruella is totally not the 101 Cruella (it even end with she owning some dalmatians) so if your kids ask "Why Cruella is so mean in the other movie" you can just tell them they are not the same person lol

    • @@Psy_Ro but it didn’t? It just kicked the inexplicably evil villain trope up to Emma Thompson, and the plucky underdog trope to Emma Stone. Then fiddled with names and continuity. Its the same story. Its literally a way to use a recognizable IP for the box office, without actually using it meaningfully in the story,

  • Fun fact: in the original novel (yes, there was a book before the first cartoon film, it was written by Dodie Smith in the 1950s), it was very clearly established that Cruella's birth name was, in fact, Cruella De Vil, and that she came from a long line of De Vils. • Honestly, I really like the Cruella film. It was enjoyable and one of my favorites. That is if you detach it from the original movie. Don't get me wrong, 101 Dalmatians is a classic. But Cruella deVil is not a character that should be redeemed. The character in the movie felt entirely different from the puppy skinner in the original movie. It doesn't give cruella any reason to hurt Dalmatians and I feel sorry that Estelle had to turn into Cruella because it makes the film seem so much sillier. It tries to redeem Cruella, but it comes up with the most basic way of doing it. If Cruella had a differently named protagonist, who turned into a different character, it could have turned out so much better than what it is. Because being connected to the original makes the plot kind of fall apart.
