Not naming this movie "De Vill wears Prada" was a lost opportunity
Yeah, I'm surprised Screen Junkies didn't make fun of strong Miranda Priestley vibes.
It's all but certainly one of the rejected titles. I mean, it was right there.
“De Vill wears Panda”?
But at least they used the butchered Invincible meme, right?
Oh yeah they totally could've go with that one
How to make a dog killer sympathetic, according to Disney: 1: Dalmatians killed her mother 2: She doesn't kill dogs in this movie 3: She doesn't even dislike dogs 4: Actually just make her a different character altogether Nice one, guys. Another slam dunk.
I fail to see the problem with that. That is the point of this movie just like it was in maleficent. Retelling the story and changing it in order to elaborate on the villan now protagonist.
@@Psy_Ro you must have liked that 'cats' movie
@@jeremywoods770 never watched it. But i do wanna see the musical
well, I guess we are suppose to think of it like an alternative universe kindda thing, This Cruella is totally not the 101 Cruella (it even end with she owning some dalmatians) so if your kids ask "Why Cruella is so mean in the other movie" you can just tell them they are not the same person lol
@@Psy_Ro but it didn’t? It just kicked the inexplicably evil villain trope up to Emma Thompson, and the plucky underdog trope to Emma Stone. Then fiddled with names and continuity. Its the same story. Its literally a way to use a recognizable IP for the box office, without actually using it meaningfully in the story,
"It's a good thing Emma Stone picked a random car on London street with the wheel on the proper American side. " 😂🤣
Yaaaaaasss I didn't notice
Just 1 more reason I'll never watch this lol
I feel like earlier in the movie it was the right side of the car though. I could be remembering wrong
@@DARTHNEWS it was actually pretty good
Awkward 😂
Fun fact: in the original novel (yes, there was a book before the first cartoon film, it was written by Dodie Smith in the 1950s), it was very clearly established that Cruella's birth name was, in fact, Cruella De Vil, and that she came from a long line of De Vils. Heck, Mrs. Dearly went to school with her.
The book is fricken weird and I love it
Dearly? I thought their name was Darling?
i guess they wanted to change it up
Anita Darling Is also a childhood friend of Estella, they didn't change that part all that much
Also her ancestor is a serial killer son of Satan Right? I didn't read the book, I watched the Film Theory about it...

In fairness, the Fashion Kombat sounds exactly like a prequel story about Cruella d'Eville. It's only the plot that makes no sense.
Cruella was a cartoon villain, who's fun because she's over-the-top evil for no reason. The last thing she needs is a sympathetic origin story.

Turning henchmen into a hench family in a villain prequel is TIGHT!
I mean, it *does* make for fun character dynamics... Watching your main character abuse a decent portion of the cast without any other dynamics to spice things up can get boring pretty quickly, and minions are a good way to get that.

These remakes are an excuse to renew the copyright for old movies that would otherwise pass into the public domain and no one can convince me otherwise
That's exactly why
That's probably one of the reasons, but they still want to make money from these movies.
Bro that's true. Disney has actually been trying to get that law about the time limit removed. But I don't think it's going to happen
You just blew my mind! I totally forgot about the copyright renewals! I swear, Disney will do anything to prevent its properties from falling into public domain.
1000% why
You know… if this movie just chose to be its own movie, like just a movie about a fashionista fight that wasn’t Cruella Devil, but was it’s own character… it could’ve been a fine movie. Heck, a good one. Why do we need to make these dumb origin films? Just make new stories! Please!
Would require more money to market, would be a start from zero pitch... thats why they do these things
Because then fans of the original movie wouldn't flock to watch it
I think it’s a case of rewriting what we think of villains to make them sympathetic characters. Not sure exactly why that’s a thing but I’m am certain it’s a psychological game.
Next prequel movie they're gonna make: Origin story of the missile from the Iron Giant.
Origin story of the iceberg from Titanic
Lol it going to be evil queen in the snow white, or the step mother in Cinderella

yeah Cruella really was such close friends with Horae and Jasper : 3 that's why in the original film she yelled at them, berated them and treated them like garbage, right?
Yes. None of this, oh they're a complex character with a troubled past, everyone's a special snowflake, crap. Batman proved that sometimes the best villains are the ones who just want to watch the world burn.

Not gonna lie, I was there for the dress fighting.
Honestly, I really like the Cruella film. It was enjoyable and one of my favorites. That is if you detach it from the original movie. Don't get me wrong, 101 Dalmatians is a classic. But Cruella deVil is not a character that should be redeemed. The character in the movie felt entirely different from the puppy skinner in the original movie. It doesn't give cruella any reason to hurt Dalmatians and I feel sorry that Estelle had to turn into Cruella because it makes the film seem so much sillier. It tries to redeem Cruella, but it comes up with the most basic way of doing it. If Cruella had a differently named protagonist, who turned into a different character, it could have turned out so much better than what it is. Because being connected to the original makes the plot kind of fall apart.

Hollywood in general, and Disney in particular have NO Imagination or ability to create something truly new and original.
Tenet and Knives Out were original films with big budgets. Original films still exist, just few and far between.
Does every villain need a cliched, "sympathetic" origin story? Like, they took Maleficent- the only Disney villain so evil she summoned the "demons of Hell" - and made her wishy washy while pissing all over the good fairies (the main heroes of the original). Now they've done the same thing with Cruella... stop. Just stop.
Best comment on here!
Does very villain need a cliched "I'm just evil" story? Because Disney just had to do twist villain Hans and Elsa's Evil Grandfather... They should stop with that too.
Next I want a pre-prequel explaining the sympathetic origin of Emma Thompson's character.
I mean this comment makes no sense. Cz Maleficent was not exactly a villian in the movie. You are mixing the character from the book and the movie. The character in the movie is completely different. She is more of an anti-Hero than a villian while in the books or the fairly tales, she was a complete villian.
@@DrDiabolical000 I am not mixing up the book and the movie. I am comparing the original animated Disney classic film with the live action film. In the original animated movie, Maleficent was a baby killing villain. She did not have a single sympathetic element to her character- and that was what made her great! The live action version completely changed what was once one of Disney's most fearsome villains, while vilifying most of the heroes. It's frustrating for fans of the classic Disney films.
I just want a documentary about the fashion in the movie, tell me about the designers, coming up with the themes, specific style choices to reflect character etc
