They somehow managed to make a character turn feel both predictable AND out of character at the same time. It's impressive in its incompetence.
I'm not going to lie, I honestly imagined it as aggressive hopping...

Its just bad writing to require you to look out of the story format in order to understand a basic part of the story. Not even to understand the meaning of the conclusion, just reason for a characters action. Like imagine going, yeah this adaptation of Charlie and the chocolate factory is really weird and bad, but if you look at this other completely different medium by someone else, you will see that the story is good. Like what?
@@alexwilson2268 we're talking about Show Bran, and his story was really boring in the show and as a character he was not developed at all. While in the books, i do agree that his story is interesting and it would make sense for him to be King in the end, but King In The North, definitely NOT IN THE SOUTH. Although Robb apparently did name Jon as his heir,cause he thinks Bran is dead, and Sansa was desinherited (I think ) cause Robb did not want a Lannister at Winterfell, she is still married to Tyrion in the books.

And in Season 5, he wasn't there. What does he do all the time? Rolling his eyes, talk like a robot, sitting in wheelchair and just become a talking Wikipedia.
His story consists of getting transported to a tree, getting some kick ass powers, getting transported back, and never really using those powers in any meaningful way. Instead just kind of sitting there, being weird, and doing nothing. Way better than a story about a guy who had a secret hidden lineage, fought his way from being a bastard/outcast into gaining the respect of so many, earning his birthright on his own despite not wanting it, coming back from the dead, fighting battles against the undead, flying around on dragons... boning his aunt (mentioned just because its technically "interesting"), and having to kill the woman he loved for the good of the 7 kingdoms/world!

Game of Thrones is like an old friend that you fell out with. You’re angry at them because of the way it ended, but you get sad when you remember how close you used to be.

It really could have been the greatest show ever with a 5 minute sword fight with Jon and the night king and a reasonable death for the two Queens.

The fact that Cersei took virtually no action in season 8 isn't talked about enough.
Lena Headey had to sell her character with almost no dialogue. There are only so many faces you can make looking out a bloody window.
For a time you think "maybe she's a great taoist tactician master of wu wei, unfolding some master plan...?", but nope, she ends dying crying like a little girl... As is expected from any great villain I mean, clearly...

This was actually me. I was so hyped before S8 started. I was gonna buy the whole bluray box set of the series. Now I dont even want to see the recommendations in my youtube feed.
My parents have bought me every season for Christmas. After the finale, I told them I'd be fine without this one. My dad said that was good because he wasn't going to buy it.
I got the seasons 1-7 box set for an early Christmas gift. It's a shame they never made the 8th season. Shame. Shame. But at least I don't have to buy a new set now. (Shame.)

Before season 7 aired, people theorized that the Night King would be the one to sit on the Iron Throne in the end, and honestly, I would’ve rather seen that happen, even if it meant killing off all the main characters and leaving Westeros in complete ruins. Still would’ve been way better then what we got.
Indeed. A dark, miserable emding - but well written - would have been a luxury compared to what we got. In fact, that could have been really deep and poignant. The futility of hope and struggle in a universe striving inexorably towards chaos... or whatever. Alas. 'Twas not to be.
One of the things that really pisses me off is how insulting this must have been for Lena Hadley. One of the greatrest actresses (cand characters) on the show gets force to spew nonsense lines about elephants, whine for a bit and stare at a window for 6 episodes and just dies with absolutely no purpose.
How about Conleth Hill and Peter Dinklage, who were dumbed down to please 14yo teenagers about testicles-jokes and dumb moves the whole season?

it's very hard to write competent characters, because you have to write a good plot and story that fits their intellect. On the other hand, if they are stupid, whatever you write the characters will go along with.

Ugh. This is so painful. The amount I loved this show, and books, and the disappointment that filled me... it’s like I can’t even comprehend it
I know. It was like - gaining an ocean of possibility, ready to immerse your viewers with all the depths of creativity and culmination expectations can have... Yet not using the ocean and pissing on your viewers instead, before sailing away with the ocean of possibility while we are all stunned about wtf happened... finally coming awake to realize we've all been screwed out of 9 years of life.
The books can make up for this mess, or at least that's what I want to believe at this point

All the finales for game of thrones from season 1 to season 7 has an IMDb rating of above 9. Season 8 finale has 4.1. Let that sink in. It has never gone below rating of 8. Except for season 8 in which not one episode has above 8, although I think the long night deserved it.

Not a single episode pre season 8 has a lower than 8 rating, except for ‘unbowed, unbent, unbroken’ aka the sand snake episode. By contrast the highest rated episode in season 8 is ‘a Knight of Seven Kingdoms’, also with a 7.9. You could argue some pre season 8 episodes deserve lower ratings but still.

I watched season 8, yet I don't accept this ending. For me, it didn't happen.
I'd advise your friend to watch the first three episodes. They're ok, Pod's song is pretty cool, and Arya killing the Night King is an awesome moment. Afterwards, just assume that they all united, easily kicked Cersei and Euron's butt, that Jon and Danny ruled the 7 Kingdoms together, and they all live happily after, and you're good.

Game of thrones final season is the greatest letdown in television history.
There is a conspiracy theory that Disney is behind it all. HBO said D&D could have had 10 seasons if they wanted, but Disney made D&D an offer to start the new Star Wars trilogy. With a lot of $ and their dreams of creating a new Star Wars universe, D&D had to wrap up GoT and make it bad. That way, it would not become as much of an obstacle for Disney in the entertainment industry.

I recently rewatched the season for the first time since it aired. It hasn't become better with time. It's even stupider. The writers just seemed to forget that 'subverting expectations' (GoT has singularly made me hate that term in much the same way as Brexit has made me hate 'democratic will of the people') doesn't mean making people do irrational things or avoid capitalising on things that have been set up earlier on. Ned Stark's beheading was a subverted expectation because it defied the usual trope, but it made sense - it was justifiable by Joffrey's characterisation. We believe it. Having Dany get ambushed by the Iron Fleet subverts expectations too, because it's unexpected, but it's stupid and indefensible. You can't rationalise it.
