I have this since 2013 /2014 and still running; someway somehow, apple should bring this back. The quality is well built and the range and definitely extreme
I have several extremes and time capsules here still... they are insanely reliable and the networking is simple.
After eight or teen years I still use a growing home net of two Airport Extreme and three AirPort Express. A couple of months ago I had to deep clean my older Airport Extreme, since it begun to heat up because of summer climate. My little net keeps six cameras and lights at home, two tvs and our personal devices and quests. Love them ❤
That’s cool, I haven’t heard of many people cleaning their AirPorts out. Did you open yours up, and is it an AirPort with Time Capsule?
Mine is attached to my WiFi via Ethernet. I use it for Time Machine. The rest of my network is Orbi and some MOCA adapters.
I use mine just as a online server for the house. I think they are great. I’m curious if I get a bunch and can make it a nas? I also watched videos of people swapping the hard drives for a bigger one. Looks intimidating.
That’s a really good way to repurpose one of these routers, I’ve seen some people swap the drives out, but it does seem kind of hard to do.
Easiest setup I’ve ever handled I’ve got one on the way and an express 2nd gen as an extender as I live in an attic apartment and need better range for the doorbell… Luckily I have a crawl space that is over the main door so I’ll just get in there and strategically place it Also: USB ssd for Time Machine Can’t go wrong at these prices!
Can you make a video to show how to use this in 2023 behind main router (connect this to one of the LAN ports on main router) and use it exclusively for time machine backup purpose?
Still use mine for the past 6 years! Love the aesthetic and simplicity of set up. Never have issues with streaming video, downloading or uploading speeds…. However, will agree that the range might be an issue if you live in a space larger than a one bedroom ….
I wish Apple still made these things, but with WiFi 6E functionality
I really appreciate that you made this video. I have had an AirPort Extreme for many years now with know complaints but was wondering if I should upgrade. As they say, if it ain't broke don't fix it. So spending money on something I don't really need would be illogical.
Routers are something that can be used for years, if taken care of properly, and Apple made good routers, so if taken care of, you can keep these for years without issues.
Ten years. Still functioning well.

I mean yes but since there’s no security built in I’m using it as a wireless AP and not as a router
I have the time capsule and since Catalina onwards broke time machine I’m using it as a nas
The last time capsules ((2016) came in 2/3tb
You mentioned you attached the AE to your router with Ethernet. Was it just as simple as that? Did you need to tweak any settings? Did you need to download any apps? I seemed to remember an airport utility when I had an express. Thanks. These were truly beautiful routers. So sad not to many companies care about that.
I want to use mine just as the hard drive and not router is that possible?
I believe that Snazzy Labs was able to do this, with some settings changes in the AirPort Utility app.

I have had mine hooked up at my place in Hawaii for 5 yrs . I had Picassa as well as well as Mac photos . Hope my stuff is on here . My wife just got tge tower over to me here working in Cali hoping to recover data and photos I need . My I Mac is now shot . How hard is it to restore or can I access files on another computer off my airport tower ? BTW mine cost 500 dollars . Yours cost 20 …… I hate you so Much 😂😂.
