Child Screams For Most of 8-Hour Long Flight

We've all been in the situation of flying with a fussy child or sitting next to one on a plane. Just last week this mom got national attention when she was kicked off a United Airlines flight because her baby was crying. The Vancouver-bound plane carrying Canadian singer Sarah Blackwood and her son hadn't even taken off when the trouble began. Sarah admits little Sebastian was screaming loudly. #InsideEdition

    • That happened quite a few years back on a flight from London to South Africa. The kid was part of a custody battle and was being repatriated to be with his biological parents in SA after being taken to the UK by an "adoptive" parent. He screamed so much because he didn't want to go the Captain refused to take off. I think in the end they agreed on some kind of shared custody.

Although I do not know the situation and neither do you, I think a likely scenario is that this is a single mom trying to raise her child AND work full time. She probably has less time to try and parent if she's gone for 40 hours a week.

  • I have a grown son with autism, & when he was a baby & young one we had situations where we had to fly with him. Whether the mother has had her son diagnosed yet we don’t know, but this type of behavior is classic for most types of autism. She knows her son, just as I know mine, & I bet she anticipated this behavior (anything outside of their normal environment or routine is very scary & upsetting to the child) so I wonder WHY she didn’t do what we did? We anticipated problems & went to our pediatrician. We were going from NY to Seattle & needed him to SLEEP as much as possible. We were advised to put him in his car seat which is familiar & comforting & gave us a prescription for a strong sedative. It went great- both trips. We did have to buy him a seat, but it had to be done. He only cried on takeoff. The rest of it felt like a long car trip & after sleeping many hours he ate & played. I’m shocked the mother didn’t anticipate this. Sounds like she’s in denial. I’m sympathetic but she should have at least bought him a seat & put him in a car seat. As a passenger I would’ve lost my mind!

At one point the yunger brother stopped, but the girls continued, having screamed and cried for literally 3 hours straight. The flight attendent came by more than once trying be polite, but also get the point across to stop screaming. Her father eventually took her to the bathroom, tired and exasperated, and asked her what she wanted. She screamd, "I DON'T KNOW!" The whole plane could hear her tantrum for the flight so far. • Gibb3x x3 yes. I’ve travelled a lot, as my husband is an Aussie and I’m English, so every year I go to visit family from Australia to England. Babies cry, and it’s fine. This isn’t a baby. Surely the parent knew he’d be a nightmare? Some mild sedative would have settled him down for a while and given EVERYONE a break from him. He’s obviously hyperactive, ADHD, or just not disciplined. I’ve had my children fly long haul when they were young, and never would I have allowed this. It’s unfair to others.

I mean a 3 year old will cry if they’re hungry or something like that and it’s ok but a 3 year old shouldn’t go 8 hours screaming and crying like that 8 year old boy now that is unacceptable.
