  • Just a follow on from my comments last night, it was really good seeing the Dogs working and also it was good seeing the Lurchers doing their stuff. When I started working with Terriers on Rats it was around 1955 when I was eight, my Father and his Mates were clearing a Knackers Yard, mainly the building, we’d nothing fancy like “Smokers” we used Ferrets, only trouble was when it got a bit hectic the Terriers couldn’t tell the difference between Rats and Ferrets. From that day I was hooked, as time went on we started to use Lurchers more to mainly “Nail” the runners, when working Farms with buildings close to the fields, or when doing “Muck Heaps”, the best Lurchers we used were Bedlington Whippet, I found that they’d got the speed but being that bit smaller they’d get the “Long Tails” a bit easier. Keep up the good work, I think somewhere back in the day, the then Duke of Beaufort said “A Fox Hunt to Hounds is good but a Rat Hunt with Terriers is marvellous”.

    • I'm not saying that I would want thousands of rats in my home but I do find it repulsive and disgusting how you and others LIKE you demonize this particular creature in general and brutally killing them mercilessly becomes justified in your sick sadistic minds.

      @michaeltammaro482@michaeltammaro4823 жыл бұрын
    • @@michaeltammaro482 what? Where did you get all that from 🤣 Listen,we don’t demonize rodents. We respect them as a part of life,but almost all the time rodents will overpopulate. We cant let that happen,that ruins everything. We put things back in correct order by controlling their population in a humane way. What is this way? Terriers of course! Terriers were bred for this,they were and still aren’t supposed to be small purse pooches. Of course,some dogs may enjoy that which no shame,but most terriers (especially these ones) don’t. They would much rather spend their days and nights helping with pests then sitting on a couch all day. Not only does this help the rodents population but it improves the dogs life drastically as you’re letting them express their genetics in a positive light. Also with your whole take of thinking this is a sadistic and bloody way of controlling them. Watch how they shake after catching a rodent,this instantly breaks their neck which is a quick death. The terriers may continue messing with it which doesn’t hurt it any longer as its dead as a reward or are taken off the rodent. Stop making assumptions and take time to learn if you’re going to share your opinion!

  • I am form Arkansas, U S A and I had a rat terrier when I was a boy. I had other hunting dogs and I would buy dog food in bulk. So one day I was feeding the dogs and about 10 rat's ran out of the dog food bag. This is a issue because I bought the food. So I got the gas can and used about two gallons in about 20 rat holes and I lite one hole and the other holes caught on fire and there were rats running around on fire and she killed 21 rat's. My dad said I could not be trusted with gas and match's anymore.

One would often scare them behind our trashcan until it tried to escape on the other side and the other dog would be waiting in an ambush. Was always fascinating to see. They tought themselves 100%.

  • We had many Irish Terriers. In fact, I could swear I see one in this video! That is the exact name of the breed. "Irish Terrier". They are a brownish- copper color. Very wiry coat. An impressive looking dog. They look very fast. They are bigger than most terrier breeds with the exception of kerry blues, wheatens and airedales. The Irish Terrier is faster than them all, though. They have long legs for their body and they are fast like whippets. All of these terriers I mentioned are good for ratting- soft-coated wheatens, kerry blue, airedales, and irish terriers. But man, the agility and speed of the Irish Terrier is top notch. Bring them out on an agility course and watch them shine. And wow, are they ever hellhounds. They're afraid of nothing, including big snakes! They'll go after rats and squirrels and rabbits and any other rodents. We currently have a wheaten terrier and she is scared of everything. She's even scared off by birds, even though wheatens are supposed to be some of the best farm dogs alive. She's a gentle sweetheart. But the Irish Terriers are the daredevils. They'll get rid of stuff. They never seem to get tired. Relentless. They live a fast and furious life and that's the way they want it to be. I think those Irish Terriers are really awesome. Great family dogs, too. Underrated breed.

  • I have 2 scottie boys and a young cairn girl. The scotties are nothing but business. The cairn is the nose of the outfit. They never hang on to the prey. Its death shake, drop and on to the next. Here in the States I have to look hard for places to let them hunt.
