    • The dogs absolutely love it mate, makes a lot of sense why pet shops sell so many squeeky toys. There's a guy from your country who has a good channel hunting rats with his dogs, he uses mink aswell to get them out of small gaps, its a really good channel if you've never seen it mate.

  • The dogs look very happy to work. I wish my hound dog could do this, I think this is what she dreams of at night! Just one question: when not working, are these dogs regular companion pets? I noticed they were in cages for transport....but am I right to assume they don't live in those cages otherwise?

  • What kind of special treatment so these dogs get to protect them from infections and such.. What a way for your and your favorite mates to make a few bob eh? My grand father started a hatchery back in the 30's (in the US). We always used barn cats and brown snakes ( my granddad paid a quarter a piece for the brown snakes we found and brought to the ranch) to keep the rats down.. then when us kids came down we used to get the old 22 rifles out of the gun case and we could go out and shoot the rats.. We also had a ton of field mice we left to the cats and the snakes.. Boy those were the days.. By the time I was 10 I could shoot the eye our of a rat at 40 yards.. It was a great way to teach kids gun safety and the ability to shoot.. When done we had to put them back as we found them. Which meant tearing them down cleaning and oiling them.. Heck today at 70 I don't even think I could see a rat at 40 yards.. But it sure came in handy in 1969 when I joined the corps.. they found a very good/bad use for a lad that could shoot like me.. But that is a different story and one that I would just as soon died away forever.. Carry on fellas. Thanks for the share..

Hiding at the same place as the chickens potensial getting their diseases in the food? Cheers from a agronomist in Norway

  • @Mr Johnsons working terriers - Do you have to teach a Jack Russell pup to rat, or will natural instinct make him a ratter?

    @Tadpoleriver@Tadpoleriver2 жыл бұрын
    • It’s natural to them. Some are obviously better at it than others but even the most domesticated JRT can’t have its instinct taken away. It’s what the breed was bred for so it’s ingrained in them. My JRT goes for rabbits, squirrels, rats, etc, anything small and squeaky they want to shake. People have used them to hunt foxes and drag them out of their holes and I’ve even seen people in the states using them for things like Boar hunting. They’re a very impressive breed and extremely game, tough dogs especially for their size. Test their prey instinct as puppies with a squeaky toy. If they go right for it you’ll probably have a good ratting dog.

    • I think most hunting dogs can do this but terriers are the best. My hunting dog shook the living fuck out of a baby rat but isn't proficient at catching adult rats because they are small. He is large. Terriers can squeeze into small spaces.
