Most terriers are good ratters but plummer terriers are psychopaths in vermin control, newest terrier breed for the purpose in the UK. Literally amazing dogs,

You might prefer a garden fork for rocky ground. It gets around rocks better, still have to be careful around dogs. The dog bottom at 3:56 could be set to music. Lol!

Thanks for sharing, brings back memories of me and my staffordshire bull terriers going ratting they loved it and so did we it's a brilliant day out but I suppose it wasn't so good for the rats ..lol..

Cracking pack of terriers doing what they do best and even the lurcher did well... my old whippet cross wasn't a bad rat catcher in her day .. even now she still tries to catch the odd one... Great to watch & to reminisce 👍👍

I have a rat terrier named lucky and when a rat came by me he literally just swopped in and ate the sucker lmao. I was scared for a second because i thought my dog was a psychopath but then I realized that is what rat terriers are born to do

Well done, nice to see terrier’s working in the UK . I have working Jacks from Welsh lines and it’s sad to say that I am constantly asked what type of dog are they 🙄. The rubbish people sell with the title of Jack Russell is a scandal🤨 and has led to the general public with image of pop eyed, queen and legged, prick eared dogs being the true Jack Russell. I pray that the working terrier’s don’t die out in the Uk but sadly they are becoming rare.
Well and alive still in Yorkshire. Lurchers and terriers are still being used what they were bred for in every part of the county. I think they’re still using them in the Scottish highlands to bolt foxes as well.

Hi there, my folks have rats in the chicken feeder so I've shot a few but realised our 1 and a half year old (human years) Lakeland Jack Russell is a good breed for this. Is he too old to train? Means I might get a dog sitter from time to time LOL

It's so wonderful seeing dogs doing jobs that make them so happy. Can I ask, do people in the UK less often use poisons? I'm in the US and a ratting team would be my dream, but it seems like everyone, from small apartment residents to large scale farmers, use anticoagulant poisons that would make it impossible here.

What all kinds of terriers are these?

Irish Terrier. That is the name of the breed. They're super fast like whippets and they're daredevils. They are game for anything. They have a brownish-copper coat. We owned three of them. The Pitbull was originally created with Irish Terrier in it. A mix of bulldog and terrier. Strong and game for any fight. A Pitbull is great for a lot of things, but I am not sure if they are ratters like Irish Terriers are. I think a pitbull is better as a sweet, loyal family dog and also a vicious protector of the family. But who knows, they might be able to rat. If you know differently, please reply.
Pitbulls can probably rat but if you’re from the US then maybe not because you’ve been breeding them more for fighting and size for decades. I’d imagine they could though it just might take some training and it might also be dangerous to teach your pitbull to chase anything small if you live in a residential area lol All the old ratting world records were set by old English Bull Terriers and the pitbull is like a descendant of it so in theory they’d probably be able to.

we have a part rat terroir and part chihuahua and she just loves to hunt squirrels will set for hours waiting on one to come down the tree and sets for hours catching moles and she just weights 8 pounds of fearless hell
