Machining & Welding Road Milling Machine Hydraulic Cylinder barrel | TIG & MIG

2024 ж. 15 Мам.
786 265 Рет қаралды

In this video we are machining and welding a new barrel for a road milling machine (road profiler) hydraulic lift cylinder. The original cylinder barrel is damaged and has scratching the whole length inside so this will be a re-barrel machining and welding job. We start by machining the flanges off the barrel and machining the new cylinder barrel for weld prep. Then we fit and TIG weld the end flange onto the new barrel before MIG welding and then counter boring the weld back to spec. The 2nd flange is fitted and MIG welded with metal cored wire to complete. We are using our TM-26120G lathe, ProArc PT-201 welding positioner, WIA weldmatic 500i welder.

  • I worked for a number of years for a big excavation company, as a mechanic. They always outsourced cylinder rebuilds, until i said that i could do it. I built a big machine kinda like a lathe, but it was for breaking loose the piston nut off the rod. When the rod or barrel were junk, they had to just purchase new, they didn't want to tool up to let me build the entire units, mainly cause they didn't want to be forced to paying me a higher wage, morons spent way more buying new rods and barrels, and could have saved or made money in the long run, cause there wasn't anybody in the state that would build them. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink. Nice work as always, would love to work with you. Take care and Cheers!!!
