  • This movie is actually much better than it looks from the promo. Not just scary happenings and killings but very well played and planned what is the real problem and how to make it scare and imagine what if it would be on yourself. The main character was very logical and knowing the human intelligence level it describes very well how it can be very problematic and how you can be very alone instantly because of everyone's ability to believe and understand only something that they see and have learned. And the woman was in summary pretty smart. Although, I think in this condition, I would ask everybody just to lock me in chains or something and would have stopped to meet everyone completely just in case. But seeing how this spirit's ability to cheat the victim's mind you still can be never sure of did you really made everything completely right or if you just think so. 😀

The tension-marks in her neck were either done by make-up or a little CGI. You can do so much with practical effects with a little ingenuity & imagination.

The horror techniques used including pacing, cinematography, audio mixing, and misleading was all done very well. It is a great study of the standard of a psychological horror movie.

  • The scenes shot upside down in the trailer are referring to the scene at 0:56 that shows the scale of pain patients are in from 1-10. The poster shows an upside down smile on the scale (frown) is the worst kind of pain while a normal smile is no pain. The scenes that are shot upside down are imagery portraying the people who are smiling are actually in the worst kind of pain (according to the poster at 0:56).

  • This movie is a masterpiece. Watched it with my girlfriend and she demanded that we keep at least one light on. I loved it. Despite the omen's actual face looking a little bit cheesy at the end, the film was a couple shades away from perfect. It's brilliant in how franchise-able it is. I honestly can't believe this hasn't been done before. The title is perfect, it could be any cast as this could happen to anyone, and the pure mental gymnastics of the mind filling in the blanks during moments of uncertainty was also perfect. Although I think they should shroud the course's complexion in more ambiguity, this film is an absolute masterpiece and I am patiently waiting for Smile 2.

  • I haven't seen anyone talking about it, so I'll add my opinion about one of the scariest parts of this trailer. The music. It sends chills down my spine, even though its just a repeating pattern of one note sometimes. But the way that note moves as if its getting closer or further away sometimes truly horrifies me. And there's something extremely uncanny about the breathiness and the perfect pitch of the note that makes my skin crawl. Trailer wouldn't have been half as scary without it. Even listening to the soundtrack alone without visual was scary for me.
