I just saw this the other day. It’s like a combination of Terminator and Small Soldiers. M3gan is an advanced and adaptable AI like Skynet, and is a toy prepared for release like the toys from Small Soldiers. They obviously didn’t work out all the bugs yet. This is why AI is so dangerous, and why projects should never be rushed.
I just finished watching this movie for the fourth time (second time unrated), and it was as enjoyable as the first time. 7/10. The first quarter is incredible. From the writing, establishing the characters and their roles in the story, to the conflicts and foreshadowing being presented. ... Everything from the parentless child, Cady, her selfmade aunt, Gemma attempting to build a successful product, David as the demanding boss, Tess, as the first sound judgement to supporting real bonding versus with an AI Robot, Lydia, the therapist later revealing the risk of using Megan as the flawless parent figure, to the first victims. Most of all, what I love is M3GAN, for the most part. Her cute display as a whole, charming caring personality, and overprotectiveness in how she deeply wants everything for Cady's safety after Gemma inputs her to protect her physically and mentally, which unfortunately at fault causes killing. ... The cast's acting is nearly flawless. Even with some comedy, they are almost perfect in every scene. The truly flawless performance though comes from Megan's movement actress, Amie Donald, and the voice of M3GAN, Jenna Davis. Although, Cady's overall performance is great, and Gemma's is really good as well, while the rest do well in their own roles. Practically every scene is memorable, but what I love the most is how iconic the first half is, along with later scenes. From M3GAN's introduction and every other character, Gemma meeting Cady after her parent's death, their awkward interaction at first, to the motivation of finishing Megan, to her presentation with Cady for David, the whole highlight segment after she's accepted as a project, Tess' warning, Megan's signs of concern for Cady, the dog bite! ... What stands out to me the most about this movie though, is the scene moments after. It's what makes it stand out as (somewhat) not just a horror slasher. The moment where she comforts Cady in the presentation. The singing throughout the movie is a bit out of place and weird, but I never dislike it, and after the first time find them fine and somewhat funny, but I do love her last song. Anyway. Unfortunately, it's after the second half starts with the second victim of the boy where the film falls to me in some points. In the finale, we lose what I loved about M3GAN. Her care for Cady, because Megan got betrayed and is now fighting for her life against anyone. Except, what I think is a flaw or at least unclear is why she kills David and Kurt after escaping. Megan going psycho in killing the boy, and later neighbor is fun, Her whole demeanor growing darker to protect Cady as she was told by a fault is awesome. It's just that her kills of David and Kurt, along with attacking Tess and Cole after escaping doesn't really make sense. Her logic going against Gemma isn't great either, even though it's a solid narrative to bring the story to that. The final battle is also great and entertaining. ... I'm just left upset that Megan and Cady's relationship ends so one-sided in the finale. Cady "kills" her, and Megan was left hating Cady and protecting herself. If Cady showed at least some emotions of conflict for how her friend turned out and was sad over killing Megan, the ending would have been better, but because the change in emotion is somewhat drastic, I'm left disappointed, even if her "betrayal" against Megan's killing makes complete sense. I really adore Megan and her kind side to a fault, so the ending result is sad, but I still can't wait for M3GAN 2.0.
Okay but did Megan really HAVE to make such a strong statement with those dance moves and style??? Like, she really turned up to the house with sunglasses and a sickening jacket, and then began to KILL THE DANCE FLOOR??? She really deserves to own the house.

The concept of making the doll a protector who takes her role too far, but is still so child-like that she enjoys it and wants to dance gives it an eerie element of fun. The doll’s ability to articulate herself at an adult level is startling all on its own, and her running on all fours 😳 with, “It’s nice to have a friend,” is perfect! Sci-fi version of nature vs. nurture; the only problem is that both sides conflict with the goal: Being a girl’s friend and protecting her from sadness and loneliness, which are not possible all the time. Just looking at this trailer makes me think its ending will have Megan come back in some other form. Or worse, she becomes a mass production and then there’s more than one deranged android out in the world based off the original.

Though that was in the very first draft and most of the names are completely different now. (I chose to change the title of The Green Knights because of movie with a similar title lol). Why do I find this so sweet?! Having someone to protect you from any kind harm is... a really huge thing. Megan over did it, but she did it. She understood her assignment properly and like a good robot completed it. It's not her fault that many human things are not just black and white like her commands suggest.
Its basically why Skynet concept made the whole Terminator series. Skynet wanted to eradicate humans. All robots if start becoming sentient like us then they will start killing us. Its only humans that Murder and blackmail and stuff like that. Not animals, not robots for them its black & white.
