@@FinnTheTransBrolol that made me giggle
@@FinnTheTransBroAmerican here, I don't think meatloaf is actually that disliked by many who already eat meat. I do think we write a lot of jokes about hating meatloaf thinking about it now but its just a loaf of ground beef and breadcrumbs covered in some kind of sauce. Is it amazing? It can be but usually it's just okay. I think between it being a pretty basic and boring dish to make as well as its name, meatloaf, its easy to make fun of. I think also, it being so easy to make, part of the joke is that it's made way more often than it should so a kid gets sick of it after awhile. TLDR: The hate for meatloaf is probably played up more than it is actually hated here.

The fact he went into the basement after hearing no response other than "yeah, whats up?" He knows the box-guy can mimic voices, at least call someone before going down
Lol horror movie logic is "immah go investigate alone despite convenient alternatives like calling the police when all lights were switched off at my house and my wife was missing"

The acting emotion when Shawn got mad at Ben for leaving the house as Ben was supposed to be watching the box was pretty powerful. Rewatching this its still great, seeing how smart it is. Making them think its slow, that it cant move if EITHER of them are looking at it. To make Ben think its safe to leave her alone with it, its probably way faster than it seems.
I love how it moved so slowly to begin with in order to give them a false sense of security. Then later it becomes evident that it can move faster than you can comprehend
Practically anything can be scary if it pops up on screen suddenly with a loud noise. But that wet head peeking out of the box remained just as disturbing to me no matter how long I stared at it, which is a genuine achievement in horror. My favorite spine-chilling moment was the shot of its eyes just following Ben. Absolutely loved this short film!!
Thats the Difference between "Scary" and "startling". Literally everyone can go "Booo!!" jumping out of a shadow and get a reaction, but you aint scared after that, you are pissed. Someone just terrifiying you by just being there, saying something, saying nothing... thats something you have to earn.
I like how it seemed to be slightly out of focus, adds to the "that's not a man" vibe
@@Raoul9753 yeah, my alarm startles me awake...doesn't mean I'm afraid of it. You might flinch and close your eyes if you drop a plate on the floor...that doesn't mean you feel like you're in danger. People just generally don't like sudden loud noises. Jumpers are just annoying.
That man in the box deserve an Oscar b
Everytime something happens in a movie with a strong sound it literally kills the fear factor to me. It's like the movie is saying, "your suppose to be afraid..now!..aren't you afraid??" “Why is it looking at you like that?” I thought that was one of the scariest lines of dialogue in the film. I put myself in Ben’s position and imagine I would have been absolutely terrified by the fact that it was looking at ME in such a menacing way. Similar to when I meet someone’s pet that for some odd reason doesn’t like me and the owner says something like “that’s weird, she/he usually likes everyone”. It makes me think “what does that animal see or sense that makes it feel this way about me? Is there something wrong with me? What did I do?”
It’s hard to describe, but this fear is one of the worst to me. There is nothing to do to fix it, nothing to explain it, but somehow you are in danger and a single pair of dull black eyes are staring at you. I don’t think i would be able to save myself in this situation if i was Ben. This needs to be a whole movie. This is probably the best short horror story I’ve ever seen. Great job.
Man on a train is way better watch it
nah
Better yet this should be the Box Assassin
@@ins4nutty341 lol man on a train is like Cinderella compared to this I’ve never seen anything like this
It would lose its charm if it was forced to pad out time for a whole movie.
This is the first time in an exceptionally long time that a horror film left me feeling genuinely unsettled hours after watching it. I saw it last night and couldn't get rid of this subtle dread in my chest. This is exactly what a horror is supposed to do. This film was fantastic.
I felt the exact same, regular don't really scare me anymore because of how predictable they've become but this literally made me so scared after watching it.
Wtf I've seen even horror movies than this
idiotic characters didnt bother u huh?

I want to see a full version of this, maybe it could be continued like its a curse spreading from person to person
8:13 - that was such a moment in hindsight. It completely fooled them. "Well, that could have been worse." What a perfect way to lull them into a false sense of "I guess we can handle this!" to separate them. The amount of times Ben actually looked away in the beginning but it stayed - JUST to wait out until they could attack them one by one. When the guy screamed that it was lying to them, the nonchalance of the beginning felt 10x more sinister.
your observation is exceptional, when he let them look at each other for almost 2 seconds he just gently took out his fingers to make them believe that he was slow, the moment they did their test I said to myself that the "thing" in the box could perhaps move much faster and with each blink of an eye, until the "it was you" on the phone made me understand the extent of the lie, only the guy's look was effective.
Also at that moment, the Thing told them exactly what was going on. "Just Ben. Don't let him leave the house."
Yeah i’m late but theory here, Racheal definitely was taken within the box. The people that were on the stairs are all victims that looked away from the box. Racheal looked like she was on the stairs during the last part. Once you’re in the box it’s like it traps and converts you into one of them. I absolutely love this
Great analysis. I have more questions like... What really transpired between the two guys that made Shawn say, that's water beneath the bridge. Was Shawn dating her first? or was there a bad brawl??. Like I'm left wondering, The way Shawn intentionally told the guy to open the box before reading the letter. He wanted him to DIE.
@@myivyfindstore that’s what i’m saying! I feel as if they were friends but both had feelings for the same girl maybe shawn before the other dude but it was fair game. It’s obvious they both deeply cared for her
@@myivyfindstore maybe he just wanted him to suffer not die, he told him not to go back to the house
How about the foreshadowing when Rachel says, "You're getting me all wet."
@@myivyfindstore how did Shawn know anything about what's in the box without opening it though? And if he did open it then how did he survive and reseal it?
This is genuinely very good.
I LOVED IT! The tension was so well done!
can we talk about the shitty ad placement? like imagine building suspense only to have COLGATE 2 in 1 blaring in your face.
I didnt have any ad
Mine was menstrual pads ads just when the shadows on the stairs about to came up like WHYYY
I got an ad for IKEA just before the end
Too fucking funny
Felt compelled to add that I got an ad for "Made for Love" which looks amazeballs!!!!!
I have to say Ben is rather good looking but if my husband would ask me to keep an eye on a box with a creepy head sticking out of it I'm leaving
EXACTLY LMFAO - Like you cute but you aint THAT cute bro
Same I’ll be like nah lol the first one who saw it have to stay and I’ll fine help bye
I found that odd too....and the wife agreed.
well said hahahaha. hats off for Rachel for being that brave lol
But her dumb ass is the one that want two stay he told her to leave
I like how they have a sneak of what the plot is all about when they were cooking.
Amazing job! Well done, suspence till the very last second!
The thing I hate about scary short films is that they end on a cliffhanger.
And they never make a part 2
Even though i very much agree with you, i think that if the story would be clear the horror gets taken away. In most films it's the unknown that scares us
Not really a cliffhanger, is it? No light means he CAN'T look. If he can't look, he can't stop them. It's over.
@@Bluesit32 The cliffhanger aspect is in the unanswered question of what happens when the monster gets him. Does he die? Does he go mad? Does he get dragged down into Hell? Or something else altogether?
@@jeffdorman1 no answer is scarier
Am I the only one who watches short horror films because 9 times out of 10 they’re better than their longer movie counterparts?!?
Yeah I think the issue with horror movies is that the run time is too long and can be drawn out, and they try to focus more on story telling when in reality, not everything needs to be explained or to make sense, its the fear of the unknown thats most common afterall.
its because concepts are cool and scary with you to fill in the gaps with imagination, but a lot of concepts make for bad movies
Horror is ephemeral.
me too
I think it's more the mysteriousness and tension of not knowing the whole plot or a setting to it compared to a longer film where you need a plot and a setting
the moment when they covered him from all sides was genius
That was brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!
This is the real horror movie that i'm talking about. No jumpscare. No overused of background music. Please make the story longer . this is what i want to watch in a big screen.
If they make it longer it wouldn't be called "shorts"
Bro the shower scene was a jumpscare
I got jump scared because I was looking at the comments when the head popped up and 💩myself
I think this is the perfect length for it. Remember how they made a movie out of 'Lights Off', and it just wasnt as good. What we *could* have in cinemas is an anthology of such shorts. That would be brilliant (imagine, the lights come on at the end of the movie, and you're the only one sitting in the theatre)
They tried that with lights out. The short was 100% better than the abortion of a film they made
