Love how it's exposed to the element's. Not many builds can handle this. Good work!✔️✔️✔️
If only I could find a base trailer like that at a reasonable price. All I see in NC are rust buckets with $5000 prices and ads that read "dOnT loWbalL mE! I kNoW wHat I hAvE!"
Cool, quick build. I hope that plywood holds up in the elements!
Very cool project... Love the pull-out kitchen. One comment, though... Trailer axles usually have a slight curve to them (helps with tracking at highway speeds and tire wear). You might notice some uneven wear on the inside of your tires because you've essentially added some negative camber that will be accentuated when you add weight. You can rectify that by flipping the spring perches 180 degrees to keep the curve "up".
Interesting, definitely didn’t know about that! Will have to research that a bit more.
haha "we got it whip'd"... so hip now-a-days 😂 Love the build. You should link those quick connects because nobody can find the right ones. When I first started looking for quick connects couple years back I couldnt find ANYTHING.
Haha I definitely picked that one up from FabRats. Good idea about that quick connects. I'll try to link the ones I found. Thanks for the feedback.
Nice build! I want to build one, but have it enclosed. I like everything else!! The kitchen is sweet and the pressurized water!
Thanks, Dan! Right on. I think this one ought to be enclosed too eventually. Good luck with your build!
Mate! I gotta tellya, I’ve seen some trailer builds and what you have done here is bloody grouse ay. Top job fella. Cheers. 🇦🇺
The Dr. Pepper Westfalia style cup holder.... OMG YES!
Doesn't get much cooler than that! You have skills my man
Thank you, sir!
Wow! I love your overland trailer built.
Thanks, Dan!
Awesome build video man!!!! Has inspired me to start working on my half a$$ camper trailer!
Thank you! Good luck with your build!
Amazing work 👏 😉🏴🇬🇧
Thank you!
Cool build, very sturdy base . Add 270 degree awhing tent by Bush Country or similar which allows for camping activity in the rain during mountain/seashore activity. All the best.
Yeah, a 270º awning would be awesome on this 🙌 I'll look into that one from Bush Country. Thx for the recommendation.
Absolutely sick!!
nice build.
Thank you, Pat!
I love your build and your idea. I love the trailer concept. Now all I need to do is build this get rid of my gas guzzling dodge and get a Tacoma and I'm ready. Seriously I. Am going to be doing tons of camping this next year with Royal Rangers and I need this whole set up lol
Thanks! Yeah, just get the Tacoma and you can go anywhere!
Just great work.
Nice work! Love it it. Very nice build!
“I’ll leave a link below so you DON’T buy it!” 😂😂
Thank you!
Absolutely AMAZING
Thank you!
Awesome build, well done
Thanks!
Nice kitchen build!
Thank you!
Nice build, thanks for video.
Thanks!
Mate, great build but, even better editing to show all the good stuff with out all the phif phaf .
Thanks, and yeah, glad you like this editing style!
Nice build. I do suggest an awning system and maybe another leg brace to avoid that long pull out from sagging later on, but besides that, great design and work man. I have been wanting to build one myself.
Thanks! An awning is a great idea. A 270° would be pretty sweet. And yeah, two kickstands would definitely be better long term.
fantastic job!
Thank you!
Man I want to build a trailer some day. Butt never have the time. Great build. Take care and stay safe.
"this is completely regrettable, cause IT IS GAARRRBAAAGGEEEE" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why dude ?
genial saludos desde Chile!
👋
very cool build. I am doing quite alot of the same kinds of things on my builds.
Thanks Nathan! Are you going to share a build video when you're done?
Nice build. Love the simplicity. Question, where were you driving and camping? Stunning views and topography. Thanks for sharing the build.
Hey thanks! This spot is 15min off of I-80 in Weimar, California.
You need to weld gussets on that frame on the upper corners, or they'll crack. I have a similar build and it happened to me.
Nice build bro... have you had any issues with the way the trailer pulls or wear on the tires since you moved the axle to the bottom of the leaf springs?
I sold the trailer after only a few overlanding trips, but it performed beautifully on and off the road while I had it.
Use garage door rails for sliders, they're heavy-duty and can cut to size
That's a great idea. I'm sure it's much cheaper.
Where’d you find the trailer? I’m totally looking to do something VERY similar. I have an iKamper on top of my Tacoma and wish there were times I could set it up and leave it to go mountain biking, or a store run.
It should be emphasized that water and dust intrusion will incur with this build!
I've seen a few of these open design. I wonder what plans, if any, to protecting your gear from weather? Can you tarp over the bed well enough if you encounter rain?
Trailer looks great and super practical . How does it handle the side rocking when 4wding ? Always wandered how much a high up- heavy tent would impact a square section frame on a small trailer. Did you reinforce the structure or found it not necessary at all ? Well done, enjoy it! Cheers
It rocks a little bit due to the leaf packs. I'll probably want to put some small struts on eventually to dampen it out. I haven't taken it on anything too aggressive yet but I feel confident it's going to do well. The frame is super strong, not sure what the steel wall thickness is, but it's beefy.
good shit. awesome video.
Thanks man!
@taylorpoe This is at Ponderosa in California. I didn't know you can go camping there...
Nice build! Do you find you get a fair bit of dust in the drawers? If so, whats the plan to stop it? Ive been trying to figure something similar for my truck bed but its always filled with dust.
Yeah, the long term plan is to enclose the space.
Nice build. what is that quick connect "flange" (for lack of better word) that goes through the side of the drawer? link?
Thanks! The propane female is this one: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y3HTK8W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 The water port quick connect is this one: www.amazon.com/RecPro-Exterior-Hook-Up-Connector-Optional/dp/B084JSF2Y4/ref=sr_1_3?crid=28MHZSMUT03RO&keywords=water+input+quick+connect+rv&qid=1653671971&sprefix=water+input+quick+connect+rv%2Caps%2C76&sr=8-3
Nice job 👍 How does it tow, is it too top heavy with the rtt up so high? Is wind drag an issue?
Towed great for me. I never took it above 65mph though. Not top heavy on the trail - the base is way way heavier than the tent.
How did you plumb your sink? Do you have any pictures?
Hey Taylor, awesome build! Question - how many inches are those sliders you used for the pull-out drawer with the sink (shown at 10:59)? I'm guessing about 16 but would be good to know the actual number, thanks!
I sold the trailer and can't check for you otherwise I would. I know the collapsable sink was 14"; so I imagine they were 16" sliders. Seems right.
@@taylorpoe thanks! Sounds right.
Nice job....... Do you have a link to the propane tank holder? Thanks.....Dave ~
It was this one www.amazon.com/Power-Tank-BKT-2285-SS-Propane-Diameter/dp/B082VMPT9L/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=5+gallon+propane+tank+mount&qid=1651528390&sprefix=5+gallon+prop%2Caps%2C78&sr=8-3 Looks like it's currently unavailable though.
oh and thanks!
nice looking trailer was it just a general duty or special made?
It was custom made. Kinda an interesting build - it's core frame is a 1950s Ford Truck.
Nice build. What was the weight of the trailer after everything was attached?
I wish I knew... never weighed it.
Lookin good! Also, AvE fan?
Thanks! Yeah, he’s my hero.
Where did you source the pre-finished plywood. That is an ideal thing I am missing.
Look up your local lumber yards hardwood dealers. Won't be able to find this better stuff at the big box stores - they won't have it.
Do you have any issues with dirt/dust messing up the refrigerator being in the open?
It did get quite dusty on the trail. DIdn't have any issues with it operationally. My eventual plan was to enclose the trailer for that exact reason, but I didn't get that far before I sold it.
I’m in the process of doing this with a 5x10. I want to flip the axle to under the leaf springs also. Any tips or tricks?
Nice, yeah, you should go for it. No issues on our end - it was pretty straightforward and we got a nice little increase in clearance.
@@taylorpoe looks like you just unbolted the axle from the leafs and slid the axle out to one side the flipped the u-bolt clamps and bolted back up?
Yeah, exactly. Just took all the ubolts off the axle which frees the axle. Took the axle out and put it underneath, using the same u-bolts to secure it from the bottom.
@@taylorpoe awesome thank you!
Nice. You've probably already figured this but your gas burner needs some wind shields.
Hey man. Curious where you got those long slides from.
Hey Scott, this is the set I bought: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08DKCBX18/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@@taylorpoe you're the friggin man. Just drew up blueprints this morning.
@@AttackKnob Rad, let me know how it goes!
Excuse my ignorance, but can that grade of plywood get wet?
This is pre-finished plywood and water resistant, but I definitely didn't take the trailer out when weather was bad. I also stored it indoors.
Is that knife big enough!
Bear cleaver - perfect for quartering cherry tomatoes 😂
Hi I really like your pullout kitchen. Do you build to sell? I don’t have any tools. Thanks
Thanks! Yeah, I sold this one and have built a few other setups.
Do you have the link for the sink?
Here's the faucet I used: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08XLPSS4V/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 And the collapsable sink: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DKDVXXS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@@taylorpoe Thank you!
What trailer did you start with?
It was all custom fabricated (not by me) from scratch other than the bed which is a 1950s Ford Truck.
So how can you cook when its windy?
Backup microwave and generator.
What kind of trailer did you begin with?
I bought from a guy who custom-made it from various parts. The actual bed is a 1950s Ford Truck.
What size is that trailer and where you buy it?
It's a random-parts custom made trailer. The bed is an old Ford Truck from the 50s.
What pocket hole jig is this?
I don't think Kreg sells that one anymore. This is the modern equivalent: www.amazon.com/KREG-KPHJ720PRO-Kreg720-Pocket-Jig-PRO/dp/B08BQC8TGZ/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=kreg+pocket+hole+jig&qid=1677192612&sprefix=kreg+po%2Caps%2C114&sr=8-6
@@taylorpoe thanks
Where can i sorce this original trailer?
Unfortunately it’s not on the market. It was custom made. It’s actually the bed of a 1950s Ford Truck.
Just curious, what was the total cost of a project like this? I’ve been considering doing this myself.
Hard to say because I owned a lot of the components before starting this project, and some of the components were fairly old, esp. tent, battery, roadshower. If everything was brand new, it would have been about 5K.
What kind of trailer is that?
I bought it from a guy who custom made it.
hi. medidas
I guess you dont cook when it rains :P
....click....
That massive cantilever means that kitchen unit will wobble about like a ship on a choppy sea. Anyone touches the trailer anywhere and the kettle on the burner will probably spill its contents. Imagine someone turning over in bed at the same time as someone else is cooking breakfast. It'd be chaos. These things look trick", but that is seriously impractical.
