  • Awesome inspiration! I watched the other videos but this is something more of what I am looking to do and then will enclose the box with some doors ect. Do you have a total costs so far of the raw materials just really the steel. I can add up the Timbren Axels ect and wheels and tires would vary. I would love to go with hubs that are 5x120 to possibly use the same wheels as I have on my Discovery and tire size eventually. I have ZERO welding experience but I would be willing to try this out and learn. Seems pretty straight forward process to get the rolling chassis.

    @jdpst20@jdpst202 жыл бұрын
    • Thank you! I’m about $1200 in just metal. The prices of steel are currently pretty crazy unfortunately. But yeah man welding is fun and it’s a constant learning process. • @@Adv4x4 yeah I’m not in a hurry to build but just gathering some ideas and inspiration. That costs is with the verticals brackets on too? So essentially thinking $1200-1500$ for steel, $1000-1200 for the 3500HD axels and I could find some second hand TRD tires and rims and prob have a rolling chassis for under 3k. To enclose it I would prob want some sort of lid, and use sturdy sheet metal riveted to frame and really you can get as crazy or stay as simple as you want with doors drawers and whatever accessories

  • maybe an angled welded slider on the front of the rear tow hitch so that if you were crawling over something.....it won't act as a hang point? Will allow the trailer to ride up and over the obstacle.

    @mattfletcher2632@mattfletcher26322 жыл бұрын
    • Not a bad idea! But also don’t think it would be necessary. The departure angle on the trailer is far better then the vehicle that would be towing it 👍🏼 would be a fun feature to add to a custom build if it was for some extreme rock crawling of some sort.

  • Hey man...around 15:55...is there a rule of thumb of how far to thread a hitch receiver onto the frame stock? I'm trying to see if I can get away with 1/3 of the way of the receiver length (in order to not have to order a longer beam). My center 2" beam of my trailer project will have a hitch receiver on each end...threaded onto the ends (and welded). I'm just trying to find out how deep it should be threaded onto the beam so it's stays strong. Example, putting a 18" hitch receiver onto a 2" beam only 4"...would that be pushing it? Is there a general rule of thumb? Thanks man!

    @mattmatthiessen7743@mattmatthiessen77432 жыл бұрын
    • Hey dude! I wouldn’t say there’s a general rule of thumb. But I’m sure an engineer would be able to do some math to determine what would be ideal (not me😂). I just kinda did excess just so it has no chances of being an issue later. If you drill some holes and do some of those anchoring welds like it did as well as weld that whole end I don’t think you will have an issue. But once again I am no engineer! Haha. Look up “fish plating frame” on google. You could also add some plates to it if you are nervous about it’s strength.
