  • The trick Jocko suggests (write down the 3 most important things you will do the next day) made a HUGE difference for me. I had to recover from health challenges that made it impossible to do my old job. I found a thing I can do freelance and get paid a pretty good wage for (notary public / loan signing agent.) Applying for the notary course was scary, no lie, because it is so different from anything I had ever tried before. I do have a really good feeling about this, though ! Had I not been writing those 3 things to do on a post-it note for about 3 months already, maybe I would not have grasped an opportunity I had only read about in a newspaper article. (I am leaning into discomfort, and the adrenaline which comes with it feels exciting instead of scary, once I reframe the situation!)

Once you have enough money saved, use that money to give yourself breathing room to look for something better. Everyone I work with has debt. I’m able to save 30% of my paychecks. If it’s not money you want. Money will still give you options.

    • I've tried that, and it doesn't work. You think going in a straight, predictable line is perfect because it's safe and boosts your confidence because you know exactly what you're doing. But if you've read Dostoevsky, especially Crime and Punishment, you'll come to understand that humans are wired for danger and excitement, and once our lives become comfortable enough, we will go out and find danger. It's when you're at the most comfortable, that you're the most volatile. Teenagers are the most rebellious - because they're the most protected. We look for trouble, because comfort isn't satisfying. And that has made history: murder, bitterness, betrayal, war, terror - all of that is partly fueled by people who have little self reason or purpose, people who have a little too much time and too little satisfaction. Those people destroy societies and worlds because they're bored. And that to me is more dangerous than actively seeking excitement in life. If you sit there thinking you have enough, danger will come and find you, and sweep you off your feet. And you will be in greater evil. I've studied it, I've experienced it. It's not good - go out and find hard things, and do them, and find satisfaction in healthy ways

IF the truth is on your side.. AoW says: 1) surround 2) divide 3) attack directly.. Sun Tzu giving us insight.

Come, let us slay the spirit of gravity! I learned to walk; since then have I let myself run. I learned to fly; since then I do not need pushing in order to move from a spot. Now I am light, now do I fly; now do I see myself under myself. Now there danceth a God in me.” - Friedrich Nietzsche
