  • In reality, Nietzsche hated nationalism, the big state, and anti-semites: “Deutschland, Deutschland über alles, that is the end of German philosophy,” he wrote, and “I will have all antisemites shot.” His sister, however, was a Nazi before Nazism, and she took charge of his estate and writings long before his breakdown/death--hence misinterpretations of him like this one.

    • So many people trying to defend Nietzsche but his ethics was despicable. His sister only edited the publication of “Will to Power” he talks about all these ideas in his earlier works such as”Beyond Good and Evil” and “On the Genealogy of Morality” which were both published before his death. In those he blamed the Jews for a radical re-evaluation of morality which he claimed harmed the German people which he saw as naturally superior and even referred to as a “master race”. This stuff should have never been written to begin with and was bad philosophy. Ricky Gervais majored in Philosophy at UCL. He’s not an idiot. This skit is ridiculing Nietzsche for his bad take as much as hitler. People need to stop defending him. Those two works of his are indefensible and influenced not only hitler but also Mussolini who was a huge fan of Nietzsche’s concept of the will to power, which was developed first in these earlier works before his sister ever published a posthumous work of that title.

      @TheCelestialvision@TheCelestialvision3 жыл бұрын
    • @@TheCelestialvision That makes no sense, because those last 2 books were edited by his sister when they were published. She did this during his time in isolation when he went mad, not after his death. Plus those books do not talk about the Jews re-evaluating what morality is which harms the german people. Quite the opposite, where he believes the super-human he calls it - seeks absolute truth by disregarding what society historically deems as important, moral, etc. because he saw morality as nothing more than humanity trying to justify their own selfish desires. He even directly points out that a “super-human” must disregard their race, nationality, and any link to others because it causes bias. Here he sites the austrian rural area where he grew up in and how much he despised it for being nationalistic. Indirectly spitting at Hitler, who was a nationalistic austrian. While I do not subscribe to Nietzche as he is painfully nihilistic, he has insights to the meaning of good and evil and how neither truly exist - rather a state of being where desires are acted upon in different ways that society will determine which paths are bad and which are good just to fuel a “us vs them” hatred against those who do the actions they dont do. The term “super-human” wasnt meant as a term for any race of human, rather a state of humanity anyone can reach by removing all bias from their perspective. In German the term is actually “UberMensch” which directly translates to “over-man” describing a man’s triumph over bias. Not exactly “superman” but thats how his sister and Hitler and Mussolini twisted his definition to fit their narrative. I suggest looking up “Sisyphus 55” and watch his video on Nietzche’s life and his philosophy for a summary. Pretty sure Nietzsche was a bit racist so im not saying he was a perfect human being, but the facts should be laid out straight

      @sandshark2@sandshark23 жыл бұрын
    • @@sandshark2 Nietzsche did not display good (intellectually rigorous) philosophy in his works of ethics, which defended a view of ethical nihilism. That is, the meta ethical view that denies that morality exists as a thing in itself. His argument for this is to go through the etymology of words from different languages and draw conclusions about the fundamental nature of morality from this rather than than from making any logical argument for this position. And he very clearly implies that the Germans were harmed by the Jewish revaluation of values (an argument that itself doesn’t make sense as other ancient religions like Zoroastrianism, considered likely older than Judaism, also practiced things like compassion and concern for others). I’ve read his direct work and it uses a lot of similar notions and wording to the nazis. I’m not saying he himself was a nazi, as he died before they came to power, but his notion that there is no objective morality and all that matters is being strong and being able to exert your power over others, is definitely consistent with their fascist thinking.

      @TheCelestialvision@TheCelestialvision3 жыл бұрын
    • @@TheCelestialvision Ok first comment: I agree with the beginning, as thats essentially how I attempted to explain his philosophy but im not good with words. However I dont know where you got the Jewish hatred from as he only used his Jewish town as an example when describing how he sees the world, same way someone may criticize the israeli government for being Zionists. I also never saw any fascist rhetoric and instead much of what he discussed as a danger to human progression was authoritarians and narcissists due to their avid use of good and evil to justify genocide, death, etc. he was in no way a nazi, nor a fascist (nazism and fascism are very different but I assume you know that)

    • @@pizzaboy3946 We already lost it. Let me put this into perspective. Mark Zuckerberg recently expanded the Community Guidelines on facebook, which essentially banned Holocaust denial, censoring critical analysis of historical events. I saw somebody who was happy with the decision, being a free speech advocate, I was offended. This dude was from Australia and had olive skin similar to an Italian or Greek, though his last name suggested Italian, but he had a funny looking nose. My off the cuff comment to him was "with a nose like that, I'm not surprised on your position on the matter" This dude lived in Australia, a big nose isn't exclusively a stereotypical facial feature for Yews, and whilst I will admit to the intention of the comment, I received a 30-day ban for Harrassment and Bullying. But here's my point. On a daily basis, not only do I say much worse to people on Facebook, but so do a great many others, and this is the first ban I've ever received specifically for harrassment and bullying. I didn't know if the guy was Yew-ish or not, the insult was misappropriated for all I know and in all likelihood it was. Nonetheless, I'm in the digital gulag for 30-days. I don't even hate Yews, like I said, I'm just a free speech advocate. But I will say this. It is a directly observable and self evident truth, that historically, you've only ever had to look to those you cannot criticise, to see who the oppressors and tyrants of the times were.
