Oh man, he has mastered the art of treading the line. That shower joke was close to the edge, but he pulled it off completely.
Ah hes really has man, I saw him in 2019 live, he did a string of jokes about dead babies and baby funerals that took the roof off.
Him and Jimmy Carr just tell the jokes that people tell each other when they think nobody else is listening. Me and my daughter do it all the time.

That one was rough.
He spoke about things that there is nothing funny about. And he made us all laugh. That, beyond anything, is pure talent.
People are conditioned in these contexts, which is why you often see people laugh when guests are talking about a serious story (see Harrison Ford for ex on late night shows or the infamous Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman).

He doesn't. They try and have tried to cancel him, but he is truly the only respectfully unafraid comedian out there unwilling to bend and remains flippant to cancel culture. Since they continued to fail abysmally trying to censor him, they gave up.
Probably because his intentions are to make people laugh. He's not one of these people that says something outrageous and then when no-one agrees says 'Oooh only joking'.

Ricky Gervais knows exactly how to do a controversial joke but still be absolutely on point, so you can't fault him for it. He is a master at jokes, compared to many other 'controversial' comedians who are just popular for being narcissistic assholes. Ricky Gervais thinks about the target of his joke and knows exactly how to crisscross and layer his jokes doubly so that the brilliance overpowers any controversy.
“I could resist everything except temptation” sounds like a line from one of those overly dramatic perfume adverts.
These days completely uncontroversial, in Victorian times not so much.

Ricky Gervais is obviously very, very talented. He's utterly hilarious and writes some fantastic material but his body language and mannerisms really take it up a notch.
This is strangely worded. The start of it, and the "but" make it sound like you didnt like it. It would have made more sense if you said "but this was not funny". Bro you gotta watch your language.

Robin Williams was comic genius. Gervais doesn't rise to that level. And Williams had more class & decency than to use the death of 40-50 Million people for a joke.

@@shelbynamels973 perhaps Pearl Harbour wasn't mainland, so people still felt safe being thousands of miles away from any front. But we've got bomb creators in fields around us. We've got remnants of old air bases and flight towers. We still have very real reminders of the war. I don't think that's a bad thing personally.

Nobody in the US would use the term 'Jap' or 'Kraut" any more, yet Al Murray even today gets a laugh out of the audience when he talks about 'calling "Fritz in Frankfurt on extension 109". PS. It got me to thinking. Everybody knows, of course, of the USS Arizona memorial, but that's in Hawaii. The only memorial=type thing on the mainland that immediately comes to mind is the internment camp at Manzanar, and what does that tell you!

He is an amazing human being! He makes people laugh in situations where you would like to feel guilty about it, but he takes the guilt off of you in some magic way! That's a one in a billion talent. That's so incredibly powerful, because laughter is such a powerful thing! I love him! If you haven't seen "After Life" you should watch it now!

I LOVE jokes about things that are horrible (nazis, illness, death...) ... Some people think that laughing of horrible things is terrible, but what they dont know is that this kind of laugh is terapeutic, cause some things are too hard to understand so, if you cant understand them and they hurt you a lot, at least you can laugh at them (just for the time of a joke) and it feels great. I thank this kind of humour.

We have to agree that Hollywood is a shady place at best, not as QAnon makes it up to be, but it is a place where people like Cosby, Weinstein, Polansky and many other big shots can blackmail young actors and take advantage of them. The brilliance of Ricky's performance at the Golden Globes is - in my opinion - that he points out the hypocrisy of the famous Hollywood actors that preach about equality and social justice while at the same time keep quiet about sexual abuse they've witnessed, know about or suspect, or openly support people like Roman Polansky. Again, there is no elite cult of pedophiles who drink the blood of children, but there actually is a power structure that allows mostly older men and women to have absolute power over the career of a young actor or actress. And the extent to which that power is and has been abused in the past will never be truly known.

Some comedians just insult people and aren't funny. Some comedians don't insult anyone and aren't funny. Gervais does both and kills it.

He doesn't really insult people directly. He insults ideas and the situations they lead to. The fact that some are offended is explained by this quote from him, "It's like jumping in front of a bullet and saying, you shot me."

Gandhi first came Britain 18 years old in 1888 to study law. He visited 6 times. The last being 1931. Not many people know that.
And also he left out a quote from his hero Churchill about gasing the indians, while having a poke at ghandi for calling them out on their uncivilized ways at the time.
