  • Brazilian medic here. I saw a patient die due to an anteater attack once. It was Christmas eve on a rural area of São Paulo and this middle age farmer was already drunk. Suddenly, he heard his dogs barking: it was a giant anteater. When he was trying to scare it away, the animal slashed his belly: evisceration, we could see part of his intestine outside his abdomen. He died around two weeks later due to nosocomial infecction.

    @Jormungandr108@Jormungandr1086 ай бұрын

    • @@machinotaurhe died of an infection caught in the hospital, but it must be noted that if your belly was literally sliced open it's probably going to be fairly hard to protect you from infections. It wouldn't be as clean a cut as you'd get in surgery either, so even stitching and bandaging might still leave the possibility of infection until the wound is fully healed.

"Yeah fuck it, its got an anthill poker claw and an ant-glue tongue and its tongue can go halfway through an anthill. Surviving uh... just make its arms strong as hell so it can beat shit with the poker claw and turn its tail into a bush looking thing for camouflage, and give it low metabolism so it can survive on ants and just make it slow and strong so it can only reasonably hunt ants stuck in a hill. For everything else, just make it look like the dumbest, silliest thing you've ever seen. Who gives a shit anyway? These ants are just bullshit, one creature isn't going to hold them all back, is management stupid? When afraid they open their arms and stand looking at the direction of the threat. If they manage to grab a hold of something they plunge their claws into it and don't let it go until some piece rags out... The giant anteater is called Tamanduá-bandeira or something like "Flag Tamanduá", the smaller one you showed is called Tamanduá-Mirim or Tamanduá-de-Colete which would sound like "Vested-Tamanduá" because of the black vest like pattern on its fur. • Still bad for mobility though, and all you get is a damage bonus. For builds that don't need to destroy structures that damage bonus is usually overkill. Besides, most feline builds just use the "retractable claws" perk to get the damage bonus without the mobility debuff (classic cats being OP)

    • @@No.Good.Nickname They are quite opposed to them actually Even if it looks similar with their thick fur and powerful attack, there's a fundamental difference slow ant eater metabolism vs fast honey badger metabolism The metabolism's speed is one of the most important things. It basically calibrate the needs, how many food, sleep, water, time to recover... It can grange from the Hummingbird, with a metabolism 100 times faster than an elephant, that eat 3 time its weight of nectar (basically sugar) per day to keep going, to the koala that eat a bit of poisonous leaves and sleep 18h/d Metabolism change everything just like the Hummingbird, the honey badger spend his whole day eating everything it finds. He sleeps with one eye open and run all the time. He's like a gluttonous C addict. While the ant eater has it chill. Its sleep is so deep that it's a mini hibernation, and he need quite some time after waking up to get moving. It eat less than 2/3 of what a dog eat, very low energy requirement for a mammal.
