You should've mentioned the Cockroach build's secondary effect during flight. It subjects the opponent, usually the human build, to an instant "terrify" status.
There's a problem with that: more aggressive builds will attack the opponent when terrified.
So an immediate terrify effect with a 50% chance of frenzy? @@kamilslup7743

That doesn't always work sometimes human mains spawn with a buff preventing the fear to most players below their weight class

Still can't believe the devs allow silverfish in the game, I never see anyone choose that class
I saw several in my base just this day.
I’m pretty sure a silverfish spawn point is in my bases shower. I noticed a pattern that almost exactly every two weeks a silverfish spawns in my bases shower. I was gonna turn it to an xp farm but they just don’t drop enough xp and nobody ever chooses them so I can’t farm them.
Bro they are all bots I swear
They should be banned simply for not being silver and not being fish
For the longest time I thought they were a myth made by human players
I fostered a wild green Mantis for about 6 months in my screened in porch. I kept it fed well and hand fed it water. One day it caught a wasp and ate the whole thing which ended up poisoning it. I thought my mantis was going to die but I mixed vitamin E into some water and fed it to it while it was sick from the wasp. It took about two weeks of nursing but she recovered. Eventually a male found its way into my port and they mated. She did not eat him but he did die after mating. I released her after they mated and now my back yard is filled with mantises. During summer it is impossible to walk a foot without seeing at least 10 mantises either jump and fly or flee to the under brush. I only cut my backyard 3 times a year and only when I know most insects and other animals will be dormant or visibly out of sight. This is in Annapolis MD
The wasp and hornet also has a very high intimidation factor, allowing them to put intense fear into even some human mains such as myself
But if the human gains enough knowledge, the intimidation is reduced quite a lot
@@pedromartins6810 however for some players such as myself, the intimidation could be too high
I personally think that the intimidation effect can backfire because human mains will find out where the hornet colony is located and wipe them from the lobby with crafted weapons like bug spray

Toads body
It's funny, but I disagree.
One thing to note about Lepidopterans (moths and butterflies) is their scales, which are a larger flattened modification of the small hairlike structures other arthropods have and often completely cover their bodies. The most important perks are: 1. The scales are designed to come off easily, which gives them some resistance to grabs, but provides much better defense against glue based traps, giving them the best matchup against spider webs of any flying insect. However, the much thicker glue droplets on glow-worm and bolas spider strands are able to soak threw the scales, but these traps cannot be formed into webs, and are much less effective unless paired with lures (which moths are unfortunately very susceptible to). 2. The scales on their wings allow them to have the only colored wings among insects, which is crucial for their camouflage and other various types of mimicry (like the eye spots and leaf patterns) as well as the most visible aposematic warnings of any insect. 3. The microscopic structure of the scales even allows them to utilize structural color, which is something worth googling if you don’t know what it is, this allows them to evolve any coloration rather than just being limited to what pigments can do. For example, butterflies can be bright blue, which is not a color of insect pigment that exists (the Blue Morpho Butterfly is a stunning example).
Truly an underappreciated aspect of the build
Lepidopterans do have some lovely aesthetics and character customization. Good for more casual playthroughs.
I admit. The fact it's D tear made my inner moth child a bit salty but I also understand. Heres some more morh defenses Many colorful moths such as Zygaenid and Uraniidae Moths are very colorful to show that they're very toxic and thus are seen as unappetizing to predators. Some Zygaenid moths have cyanide that if a bird eats it. They can also make their own cyanide. The cyanide It can kill the bird I think. These Zygaenid moths are said to be mimics of butterflies with Monarchs being one of them. These warning colors are known as Aposematism This is also seen in a lot of poisonous frogs. Some Tiger Moths and Underwing Moths have drab forewings but colorful hindwings. They hide these colorful hind wings until a predator comes by, showing the wings to startle them so the moth can escape. Frother moths when disturbed will release a liquid behind the eyes and maks a sizzling sound to detear attackers. Some Silkmoths have eyes spots to startle attacker's, some also have tails on the wings to misdirect the attacker as many moths dont mind getting bit on the wings. Its their head and body that's most important Hawkmoths some have these little hooks that when something grabs em. They feed rhag little jab which could cause a reaction for the Hawkmoth to flee. Metalmark moths raise their wings up and act very gittery to scare an attacker as the moth is mimicking the movement of jumping spiders. Many moths also camouflage to remain hidden like the Angel Moth having its head down but wings up to look ike dearj leaves. Infact, some other moths also can mimic death leaves! Window winged leaf moths have transparent areas on the wings to fool others into thinking they're leaves. A moth known as the Buddha Moth stands up sorta to appear intimidating. The Sky pointing moth when rests will raise its abdomen up to appear like a scorpion Butterflies also are like this. With Monarchs being poisonous due to milkweed or Queen Alexandria's Birdwing with the larva eating poisonous plants so that the adult doesn't become a flying buffet Glasswing butterflies are great with stealth to hide in plain sight. Phantom Butterflies have eyespotts to trick predators as well as having transparent wings to hide very well The mourning cloak can chase around a predator in swarms do it has a higher change to survive Some crafty small blue butterflies are taken by ants so they can be cared for and have the scent of a queen. Some of these caterpillars eat ant larvae too. Some carnivorous caterpillars are known to look like twigs and then swipe prey like flies out of the air with its pincer-like forelegs and then start gorging on its catch. Another interesting moth is the Water Veneer Moth. The only amphibious moth that when the adults are underwater they have a bubble around them to keep from getting wet. They can also swim and have hind legs adapted for swimming. Hawkmoths also are very good with getting nectar from hard to reach nectar flowers with even some orchid species depending on one species of Hawkmoth to help pollinate A good handful of butterflies and moths mimic each other to look poisonous even non poisonous lepidopterians do this. Anyway this is just a bunch of fun info on butterflies and moths 🦋
Weirdly enough the only mammal to evolve structural coloration is humans but only in their eyes.

I get why Orthopteras may be mid-tier individually, but if you’re ever lucky enough to spawn during a population boom, you get to reclassify as a “Locust” for the entirety of the event, and you can do some real damage when you and your buddies swarm! Really cramped a couple of Human metas in particular! Don’t get me wrong, you’re all but guaranteed a game-over at the end of the event, but while it lasts, it’s the most fun you can possibly have playing *any* insect build!
Raid bosses are something this game is almost completely devoid of unless you play a usocial insect or a human build, so the rare chance you do get to do it as a build that normally wouldn't get the chance to is absolutely gratifying, better than sex (guaranteed for mantis mains)

Flies are great builds for casual players. Their campaign is rather short but it's a lot fun and they possess some very cool abilities that you can unlock very quickly.
This is the first video I've seen from this channel, and I just have to say, I love the concept of what you are doing here. It's a whole new brand of teaching that can reach the minds of an enormous demographic, who may not have otherwise understood these principles when explained in the conventional way. I have a huge amount of respect for the genuine educators in this world.
I once bisected a grasshopper with the antenna on my car. Completely accidental, but the "no idea where they're going to land" seems really applicable.
It feels so weird how risky this move is when grasshoppers can use it as a quick startup for their flight. Songbirds are high tier because of how quickly they can weave around threats with their nearly instant flight, and yet Grasshoppers fumble when they have the same blueprint but with a powerful, combo breaking kick that on paper would set them apart from both songbirds and houseflies. Guess the silverfish must've gotten to that paper before the grasshopper could turn it in
I will never get tired of hearing yoshi sounds when a lizard eats something. Makes me giggle every time
Thanks to the author for such interesting content, and if you save a video with a health scale, then there is such a thing on my channel kzhead.info/tools/jM3h0WzL-jqwXDy4mE1cSg.html
I watched that grasshopper dodge an ambush strike at 11:07 at 0.25x speed and was shocked how good the grasshoppers frame data is. The camera couldn’t catch any part of the grasshopper’s jump animation. I’m impressed.
Their jump would be like a human jumping straight across a football field
Loved to see Hemipterans getting some respect, they are easily one of the most underrated arthropod classes of the game! The model of wings some of them have, with membranous hindwings and forewings that are hardened at the base and membranous at the tip, also allow them to have greater defense stats without sacrificing too much of their flight maneurability stats (although I do agree beetles absolutely are S tiers).
They may be some F tier insects, but in matchup against human mains they sometimes have so much intimidation that they win a battle, resulting in human mains run away

Black ops music, RuneScape font, such nostalgia ❤ S tier content for sure 👌🏻
A note on cockroaches: they have a chance to cause a passive debuff on Human players, sometimes procing to an Intimidate or Terrorize debuff. This effect gets a boost when in flight. Some cockroaches end up terrifying stronger Human players because of this. It's not enough to bump them up from C-tier, but it is a very useful perk
Many insects have the same effect on humans.
This is actually a major debuff as this same effect can taunt a human instead, and cockroaches have poor matchup against humans. While they can often times escape, or tank a few hits, a human equipped a boot can use a squish attack to overwhelm a cockroaches impressive defensive stats. And when significantly taunted, humans can become equipped with far more powerful chemical weapons that are more effective against groups of cockroaches. An insect player is far better off being ignored by humans, or by having humans thinking they are kind of neat.
This is true, although some of the Male Sub-Class of the human mains posess natural resistance to the debuff
@@trevon5036 lies nigga I'm scared
@@okene Yes, some of the offspring naturally are more scared due to the way they were farmed, and their genetic makeup at spawn.
I think it is important to note the impact non-social Hymenoptera have. Parasitoid wasps are one of the most important balancing forces on other high tier insects. Many insects that cause problems when they get ported other servers have populations on their native server mainly controlled by a species or two of parasitoid wasps.
Seriously, have you seen the Hawk Wasp player base? Excellent 1v1 stats and strats, and every variant of the Tarantula Hawk Wasp has some of the most devastating venom in the game. And that leaves aside some of the other eusocial insect players.
Also without the role solitary bees play in pollination, just about every larger terrestrial and arial (and some aquatic tbh) builds quite literally wouldn't be playable. Like, recently, a lot of players in the North American servers (I think?) are being taken out by unknown causes, and it's causing so much havoc.
Parasitoid wasps are also the only build in the game to have unlocked the use of symbiotic viruses, though humans have been going down that crafting tree but they're solely using them as defense against bacteria, not in the offensive way that parasitoid wasps use them.
21:39 Only a few beetles have exceptionally high mobility, many of them are the slow, lumbering builds you'd expect. 23:57 Also, I think the acid horn perk is unique to only one or two species of termite. The rest all rely on mandibles.
It's been a while since I've seen any of these videos. I've been here when this page was small. Good to still see it going.
While playing stick bug you might get the “meme” perk. It does nothing to your actual play style or build, but it makes you funny to human mains
Debatably, the meme perk can be extremely useful. Human mains become charmed, which leads them to try to defend the player. House Cat mains were the first to develop this perk. Now, cats have an idle playstyle that makes humans gather XP and key items for them.
It's just an entertainment bonus at the cost of a stealth setback, feels less like an actual utility and more like a genuine easter egg
Bro…….
Though, a human main might get close to you, and since their eyes are located on the head, allowing you to jump onto the human face and bite and totally not grab onto its face and lay eggs in the human main's stomach who are going to burst out of the human's chest and become giant monsters and causing humans to make movies about them. Yeah, totally insane
The Human specific "cuteness" algorithm needs to be considered in all tier lists going forward. Realistically, if you can appear generally "cute" to humans you unlock a mostly consequence free playstyle.
Whoever came up with this idea of describing insects like video game characters deserves a Nobel Prize! Great stuff!
The video "Casually Explained: Evolution" was TierZoo's big inspiration, from what I hear. Except TierZoo cranked the idea up to 15.

It is also worth mentioning that insects faction is more suited for hardcore players who want to experience the most horrific parts but on the other hand have some broken abilities.
Butterflies and moths are squishy and often just food outside of being pollinators. But I can't believe you didn't mention the coolest most niche defence they have. If they get trapped in a spider web they're able to shed their very loose scales, making them be able to just tumble off to survive another day. That has to give them at least some bonus points.
Reverse yoink
I feel like having a good matchup against a specific class of predator isn't particularly important when you have really bad matchups against so many others.
Tbh I feel like he was a little too hard on the evasion/stealth based classes. Like silverfish can shed their sales when grabbed, which can be much more effective than most other evasion abilities like dropped tails or ink.
I mean, he's gone on record before as not being a fan of defensive moves that involve sacrificing a body part.
@@augustrempelewert4377 yeah but I wouldn’t consider silverfish as “sacrificing a body part”. It has thin scales that regrow and have no nerves, blood, or nutrient stores, so it’d be more akin to fur or a reptile molt than anything else.
I can’t believe you didn’t mention one of the bee team’s most intimidating group attacks, piling on their opponents and cooking them alive through the team’s collective body heat.
It's only some bee classes who do the oven ball methods, but yea
Is that the one that's a bug involving the unintended synergy between the huddling and overheating mechanics?
He didn't mention it but he showed it around the 25 minute mark somewere

Love the game related commentary. 10/10 video
Maybe I am mistaken, but I think the biggest problem with Earwigs is that they are grabbing stuff with a deathgrip… Using a tool that is at the end of the body part that contains most of their vital organs.
I appreciate you taking a breaking from the endless arthropods to give us that clip of the ducklings napping on a log (with cameo by dragonfly) as a palate cleanser.
And the flamingo 🦩
Also some frog and tadpole cameos. (Rip the tadpole player tho, he was still too underleveled and couldn't defended himself against that dragonfly base form player)

@@gilded2342 Don't worry, Dung Defender is on the case

Big missed opportunity not putting Mantis Lords theme on the Mantis segment.
And Dragon Roost Island to the dragonfly
Awesome. I’ve actually made friends with at least one mantis. Having a drink after work with my coworkers and they started freaking out because a tiny (like 1.5 cm) Mantis had landed on my shoulder. Not wanting to have my ear ripped into by scaring it, I provide it the old finger tip and it climbed from there to the edge of the patio furniture. Little weirdo just hung out for at least five minutes just looking at me, tilting its head back and forth like my pug. Never felt so much personality from a bug, definitely felt like “someone”
Considering if she could eat you or not most of the time for sure.

An angel or a demon? Depending on what shoulder it landed on.
Its a fantastic video, but the BlackOps 2 Multiplayer music was and will forever be a nostalgic banger!
I love that you used dung defenders and hornets theme. It is a game about bugs after all.
You forgot to bring up the rare grasshopper "Swarm" event where grasshopper mains gain access to the locust build which allows them to farm xp so efficiently along with other locusts that they can completely strip regions of plant based xp.
locust would be SS tier
Yeah, probably because it isn't exactly a "plus". Swarms inevitably starve themselves out and collapse, or otherwise draw too much attention from the human faction and get chem-bombed into non-existence. The strategy is so rare because it's utterly unsustainable.
@@souffrantdepine3762 for centuries they were a serious threat and have been documented in biblical times as gods wrath
@@Zacjd Still unsustainable.

I've been big into biology and ecology all my life but I find the "gamified" approach adopted on this channel to covering the material extremely compelling and regularly brings a smile to my face even though I'm watching them talk about things I already know. I just hadn't thought about how "broken" an ability was given the current patch level. Well done.
Yeah, this is such a wonderful channel :)

its cause of that phrasing that makes me wonder if 2:28 was a reference to No More Heroes intro
This video, and the fact that there are countless builds out there that specialize in hunting insects, made me realize how unbalanced the insect world is in the greater servers. Most insect mains are only concerned about other insects, yet your playthrough can still be cut short by a player hundreds of times past your weight class, sometimes without you even realizing you've been given a one-way ticket back to the character select screen.
Great work great effort great production quality!!
The spider masquerading as an ant at 26:30 literally did the thing in TV shows where somebody is dead or knocked out but the protagonist has to use them as a disguise or pretend that they are alive. I hope that somebody else saw it
yup! I study entomology and that's indeed what the spider is doing. they are carrying around the ant so that they well smell more like the colony!
All These calamities that are going on around the world is going to lead to a Sunday law which will be the MARK of The BEAST, Those that keep God's seventh day sabbath will be persecuted and prohibited from buying and selling, Jesus is coming soon.

One interesting thing about the Bee players is how they managed to make an alliance alongsize Human players. Some bee players make special guilds that give Humans some of their resources in return for their protection. This might seem like a bad deal at first, but the more you look into it, the more your realize just how powerful this can be. I mean, when you have a hyper intelligent titan as your protector, that's a pretty good deal!
Bonus point if said titan is a sugar addicted psychopath with a disturbing eagerness to wipe out your threats.
It's less of an alliance and more of a truce. Builds like cattle, dogs and such are definitely human allies, and those factions willingly chose to develop together. I'm a raptor main, on my hawk runs it's a 50/50 shot that I'm in a truce with some human. I eat the rodents their farming attracts, they leave me alone except watch, or that one family that actually recorded my aerie and mating questline because they're weird (maybe they got xp for observing our chicks, who knows). But bees? Not only are they staunchly independent, but territories and resources with humans aren't in competition, so sharing the same resources for different xp benefits them like it does my raptors. A human-bee playthrough isn't much different than a bee playthrough, you just lose your honey to a bear or something instead of the human who expects loot for not destroying you smh. The most they get from me is the odd feather ... and pellets when I go owl lol.
Human players enjoy this trade so much, some of them have specialized into finding wayward bee players and guiding them back to a safe trading area. It's so nice to see players cooperate like that!
And if the hyperintelligent titan is not that good at protecting the guild, you can always abandon him and move to another place...
@@JeRefuseDeBienPrononcerBaleine yep very annoying on my hornet playthroughs

Butterflies defenseless? The one childhood memory I have that sticks out most was when a butterfly beat the crap out of several bees and chased them away from me. Yes, it was away from me, not just away; that butterfly just kept landing on me for some reason. That was one strange afternoon.
It probably thought you were food and so it was competing with the bees for you and it won
@@Thompsonarmsandgaming I’ve heard of instances where butterflies will go after the tears (and sweat) of other animals for their salt content. Maybe it was after the salt?
Also have you ever had a moth dig its claws into you? I had a sphinx moth land on my shoulder once and it would not let me go, every time I tried to push it off I felt like its legs were cacti digging into my skin, I had to spend the day with it attached to me
Oh, we've got a Disney princess here.
@@guardianeris You were claimed. You're an honorary moth now.
the hollow knight music on the beetle section of the video was very clever, congratulations!
Not only great video, but also greatest ad transition too
I grew up in an urban environment and insects are what introduced me to outside gameplay.
it's incredible how underrated this class is and how everyone says they're useless, and yet an enormous portion of the players in this game play it.
those who say they're useless are just salty they can't fly *and* have cool armor, also insects are too busy winning the game to answer these critics
And on top of that‚ a huge amounts of the player base‚ the majority in fact‚ wouldn’t even be able to survive without the platers who play as bees‚ given that bees help to create food.
Most are npcs, mobs, kids that want to play the game but couldn’t gather enough exp so they are stuck playing the worst classes, players looking for achievements, role players, casual players, and randomized spawn.
Just like nickleback

I never had any nintendo systems. Im glad tierzoo made me finally find gmthe mario song I've heard once that was kinda similar to kh1 clock tower song. Sad and happy song. The one that plays when they're talking about butterflies. Thank you
Mosquito main here. It may not be the strongest or fastest build out there, but it's GLORIOUS for griefing. If you play it right, you can completely deny the rested bonus to players millions of times your size. Just engage them in "combat" whenever they're about to doze off (go for the ear!). Works even better in a pack and you don't have to coordinate with your teammates, either! If you're in the mood for stealthy shenanigans, pierce their skin to steal resources and leave a debuff that literally causes them to hurt themselves, doing more damage to them than you ever could. Sit on the wall and watch the madness unfold (avoid white wallpaper).
As a Liberty Cap fungus main I can agree as I can hear some of them speaking of plague's and hating on Mosquitos and how they spread diseases.
Also according to WHO not directly, but still mosquitos kill 725,000 people a year.
Jokes on you pal. I speced into the highly sensitive skin trait. The moment you land on me I can feel it. I'm also more patient than you can imagine. You never know if I know if you're there or not. So when you least expect it I'll smash your entire body in with a one hit KO thanks to my size. I also researched the weapon that counters you. Good luck evading 3 separate fly swatters I own in case one breaks.
as a dragonfly main, i support your choice to play mosquitos. More xp for me!
As a dog main, how dare you. 1v1 me like a proper game scrub.
The fact that chsnnels like yours about animals and prehistoric animals still use the "Walking With " clips for footage warms my heart. The whole series is definitely one of the best prehistoric series we ever got. Also phenomenal video as always.
