BMW X5M v Urus Performante v Cayenne Turbo GT v RSQ8: Power & Weight SHOWDOWN!

It's time for a performance SUV dyno showdown!
We’ve lined up four of the hottest SUVs on sale today, and we’re about to find out just how accurate the manufacturers’ performance figures are in reality!
Let’s take a look at the lineup. First up, it’s the Audi RSQ8, which is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 said to produce 600hp and 800Nm of torque.
Following on is the BMW X5 Competition, with its 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 claimed to offer 625hp and 800Nm of torque.
Our third SUV is the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT. Using a very similar 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 to the Audi, it’s claimed to kick out 640hp and 850Nm.
Finally, we have the Lamborghini Urus Performante. Again using a version of the V8 found in the Audi and Porsche, it’s said to deliver 666hp and 850Nm.
Will any cars outperform their claimed figures? Or even worse, will any underperform?! Stick with Mat for this dyno test to see for yourself!

    • I agree, I think I would be no problem to give the RSQ8 more BHP but it needs to fit into the whole range. But no matter which of those cars, they are all very fast.

    • @@HugoIpek Wasn't the 2.9L V6 an Audi/Porsche collaboration? I remember the 4.0 TFSI being based on, and sharing the design of Audi's 3.0 V6 engines. It is Audi's modular V8/V6 engine family.

  • These Dyno videos are genuinely really interesting. Especially this one where 3 or the 4 cars are rebadged chassis. Just goes to show how much difference a tune makes. Love the real world power per tonne values too. Please keep this series up. I feel like you should do this as a precursor to the drag races ☺️☺️☺️☺️

    • @@ThrottleBody yes I can imagine the intakes and exhaust setups are all slightly different but overall you have the same engine. Same turbos. Just different mapping. Intake & exhaust are only a small factor in these factory tune setups

  • I do enjoy this new Series on Carwow. It's always interesting to see which Brand & Model turns out to have more HP & more/less weight than claimed Same when Matt does the 0-60mph Times in which the German Brands always outperform what they put on Paper. BMW especially, while other Brands often turn out to be slower than they claim Prost & Cheers from the Alps

  • Great video. I like that you covered in the end the fact that peak hp is not everything. It's really the area under the hp curve throughout the power band that matters most in a straight line acceleration. That's why one tune could be better and faster than another tune that has slightly higher peak hp.

    • If you are cruising round town at 1800rpm, or doing 85mph on the motorway in eighth at 2200, having a car which gives peak power at even 4000 isn't going to help you at all. In the real world you are never going to use that.

    • Problem is that always they put in all Lambos on channel the most slowest driver. It should be or Yanni or Mat himself but not the Mark or so on.. Also the should change air filter after all offroad things.. to be honest

  • I was surprised to see that the Lamborghini Urus Performante had more power than the Cayenne Turbo GT, but they both had very similar weight. Porsche must has better traction off the line (launch control) or maybe it's just the fact that Mat was behind the wheel when he drag raced these 2 S.U.V.'s a couple of months ago?

    • It’s always like that. The Porsche is always the least powerful car but 95% of time also the faster car. The car is just generally better engineered and that make the difference I think
