I have an x6m for 4 years now (100k km) and it's incredible. People who haven't driven cars like this think you lose performance when you go for an suv that isn't even very capable off road. But in reality you still get more performance than you'll ever need, and the extra added clearance and practicality make a gigantic difference for feeling comfortable on all road surfaces. You bascially get an m5 than doesnt have any drawbacks of a lowered sedan. The x5m imo is even better, that for me is as perfect at is gets in a car.
I think people want everything of something. For me it's handling and speed. If I want comfort I get a x5 30d, sporty things g80, m5 cs, m2cs, that area.
I've come to a realization a long time ago that a good car is one where you don't wish it was better in some way. I've driven a few cars and in all of the sedans I wished they were slightly higher. Not a g wagon high but slightly. When I drove cars like the g wagon I wished they handled better. Not like a porsche gt3 but just better. When I drive my x6m I don't wish it could handle better or be faster or be better off road. It just comfortably handles all the situations that I put it in. Whether it's throwing it around some canyon road or driving around a construction site. Never any issue. I just think people miss the point when they say "the m5 handles better and the g class is better off road so the x6 is pointless". The point is you compromise a huge chunk of practicality and comfort in the m5 to be 5% faster. And you comprosme a huge chunk of handling and speed in the g class to be a little be better off road. (When most people don't drive these cars in forests anyway). The x5m doesn't compromise anything it gets the best of both worlds.
i used to have X5m G05 and new X5m is a peace of shit! It is slower then G05 X5m.

@zhar9393 I love the x6 series and the X6M look great. I have an e70 x5 40d which is more than enough performance, comfort and economy and I love it, couldn't ask for anything more even though its not cheap to maintain. Would love an M car but couldn't justify the maintainence and servicing costs, maybe a 50d msport x6 could be my next car if i can find a nice one, then the misses can drive the x5.

Excellent video Joe! I have a 2018 X5M Competition and I love it! This is one of BMW's best vehicles...EVER. I have a 14 Alpina as well, and I literally stand in my garage and make emotional decisions as to which one to drive! 😂

I'm glad they're still making them with a gear selector knob. I know a lot of newer cars have a small button or have just completely removed it but I like that the X5 still has it.

@SB all you want in a car, with the exception of being a driver's car. 😉 effin SUVs, we should over-taxate and, at the same time, ban them from our cities. 99.99% never see an effin piece of dirt under the wheels in their lives.. but, yeah, everything you want.. in a car, that you probably drive alone in it 90% of the time. Ppl like you should have their driver's license removed. Knob!
Are you talking about the 2020 facelift on X3? Otherwise X3 doesn’t have an LCI yet. There will be a new gen of X3 coming later 2024 as 2025 model tho

I love the new X5. You mentioned that one advantage of the XM is that is a full hybrid; so to me the perfect model exists and it’s the X5 50e, which has 500hp and a quite a high autonomy in full electric! (Real autonomy or around 80km) Great video!
Hybrids are dumb. Either fossil or full electric.
@@hexagonosaurus5848 That in fact is a dumb statement. In my particular case the X5 50e suits my needs perfectly. Firstly solar panels on the roof of my house supply the car from March to September with "fuel" for free! Secondly the car acts as an additional battery for our System so we can use 25 kw/h on top of our 13 kw/h battery system. That statement is just wrong - I still run the car with a 3l inline 6 325 hp engine in case we're going on a longer journey.
The 50e and M60i are great cars and can do so much. But in reality the driving experience and even seat feel is very different than the full M version. Went from an F85 to the LCI and driven bunch of other X5 in between and it’s a very different experience. I do like the daily convenience of the hybrid but I enjoy the 2 mile trip to drop the kids to school with a nice rumble much more

I think I much prefer the pre refresh gauge and center console. At least that looked like it was built and designed for it, instead of these afterthought tacked on screens on all current ones.

I love this car. My cousin has the X5M Comp pre facelift; its wonderful. I am personally a Mercedes fan, I have a c63 and GLE but i love BMW and Audi. But Mercedes for me is what i go for, this is not worse. I love your videos Joe by the way. Been watching a LONG time. Cheers!

@@JoeAchilles1, totally, there’s nothing not to love about these (or any!) Michelins! (Although for my black ‘11 TTS I went with the factory recommended Continental ExtremeContacts when I replaced them in the spring of ‘22.)
Alpins are great but I think x-ice do even better overall. Alpines are more performance oriented over snow. Still great.
I just bought some for my GLE on sale buy 3 get 4th for $1. Storing them for next winter.
I saw a 24 X5 LCI for the first time today and the rear indicators caught my eye from a few cars ahead. The rear indicators fade on and off. I’m so glad they don’t scroll (hate the scrolling indicators now as every car is getting them) Mazda have had single bulb looking led indicators that fade on and off for a couple of years now it is something a little different.

I like the x6 rear end more. Looks more futurstic like a spaceship. Idk about the newer model refreshs but the x6m use to be slightly faster aswell then the x5m

Two of the best cars I ever owned were a 2018 M5 Comp and a 2016 X5 40d. The X5M comp is pinnacle. Who wants or needs a Range Rover dubious build quality. This is the only way to go…
It losing the mechanically retracting and disappearing parcel shelf is such a shame. Hate it when cars take a step backwards when they get update. Also for my taste, the new front is overly aggressive, think pre-LCI was a bit more tasteful.

I have this and a F90 Comp. Its good but it feels like an SUV after driving the M5 but it's an amazing truck. I had the F85 before this and the E70 X5M before that so I think ill always have one.

Great review as always Joe. I completely agree, the XM still doesn't make sense to me. I've test driven one, albeit for less than an hour, and it just didn't feel great. I have an X7 M60i and honestly I preferred how it drives. If I didn't have kids, I'd have bought the X5M all day, but it's great to see that BMW are still offering these high performance vehicles when so many manufacturers seem to be pushing 4 Cylinder engines or EV's.
To be honest,the XM is the BMW no one asked for..too big,too heavy,too expensive,powerful but because of the weight,its slower than the X5M,so why get it?! Great hob with the X7 though.. what a car that must be😭😭

Who is pushing the four cylinders, really? Are you mentioning the new C 63 AMG? That is a D segment car, and this one is an E segment car, a direct competitor to the GLE 63 AMG. So, even Mercedes is still offering a V8. Actually, you know what, all of the manufacturers are still offering V8s in this segment. So, no one has switched to four cylinders. That is false. The truth is, though, you're looking at one of the cars at this price category and segment, this particular one is the only one without air suspension. So, we can easily say they cheaped out on building a sporty air suspension for F95/F96, which was one of the things they should have taken from Bimmerpost forums. Everyone, literally, said this car lacked the comfort it should have from the beginning, plus the weird tyre/wheel sizings (ETs and geometry). I'd definitely get an X5M if it had a proper air suspension, carbon ceramics as an option, a better steering feel, and quicker transmission.
Hey Joe, does the new X5 have the ability to drop the height when it is parked, we have a 2022 X5 M30d and wife has issues getting in and our, seems crazy that Landrover and the likes of Volvo have the facility but I can't it on our 2022 model. Like you I do love those seats although better in Orange, keep up the great content 👍

I dont know who at BMW decided that we will not produce manual in many of these segments even the M3 in UK😤 why? Its ridiculous to be honest

0:45 I love the overall LCI improvement. The only thing I don't like is that there is basically no difference between the ///M car and the M Sport (FRONT). I think they should have made the front more aggressive, screaming, 'Look at me, I am an ///M car.'
I just brought an X6M, the problem is not ride quality, its tire noise.....on the highway its SOOO loud...apart from that, its so fun to drive, its like an M4 only louder.

Thanks Jo for confirmingwhat i already new. It is a legal requirement to fit winter tyre in countries that get a lot of snow. So many people banging on about Audi's Quattro system being the best thing ever. Yes they are good but if you put summer tyres on any four wheel drive car including the Quattro system in snow, it'll go nowhere! Sorry for ranting, just drives me nuts

I drive the ore LCI model and it’s simply amazing, drive it sensibly on the motorway and you will get 28mpg. However the down side is crabbing in cold weather it’s so bad I’m considering selling the car.

Great vid as always Joe. Word of caution: I was going to buy and X5 for the family car. The insurance was higher than for my M5, and that was for a non-M version. Bonkers. Probably going to go electric company car now, maybe A6 etron when it finally arrives. Or Lotus Eletre if I can convince the missus 😂

What do you honestly think of the gigantic screens inside?
Analogue v digital guages. My Jaguar XF has both for the speed. I find I never look at the analogue speedo. It is completely redundant for me. Driving in France, the ability to switch to km/hr is fantastically useful. The speed camera recognises the speed limit signs and I don't have to try to read the small km/hr on the analogue speedo. Revs , on the other hand, I prefer the analogue dial as I can see the red line and get a better feel for where I am in the range. As for climate control dials or screen - once set, how often do you need to change anything? Not an issue for me.
Honestly i feel like the exterirror on the pre lci looks nicer but the interrrior is nicer on the lci
Joe, I thought you said once that SUV's made no sense to you..! We all get enlightened with time. SUV's are a far superior product versus a car.
Quick clarification on winter tires: they are only mandatory if there is snow or ice on the roads, but everyone fits them regardless.

I really haven't liked the designs of the majority of the more recent BMWs - in fact as a fan boy I've actually felt a bit broken hearted by their designs. I'm also not an SUV fan. All of that said - this is a really good looking car. I think they've really achieved tasteful aggression wonderfully. It's really well balanced. To all those people saying "people always hate new BMWs and grow to love them" - we don't all do that - the majority of BMW cars are gorgeous!
