Because of this review, I'm very much considering buying a used X5 M 2017-2018 40-60k km, but I'm worried about the ride comfort. Can you ask your friend which tires he is using and how actually comfortable it is, maybe comparing to non M X5 with DDC or similar? Thank you very much for your reply.

I bought the 2016 X5M right around the time this video came out and I think the same as you. yes the new one beat the old one but you would never be able to notice that little bit of difference in performance unless they were next to each other. mine launches pretty hard and if that weren't enough I could just tune it. now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying all that because Im hating on the new one or because I can't afford it lol but you just get a lot more for your money with the F85. with that being said. the new one is gorgeous and one day I'll buy that one too when it 50% off lol
ur joking right? The F95 is miles ahead of an F85. You couldnt tell unless they were next to each other? lol Not even close to being true. Its a night and day difference. The guy didnt put the F95 in full sport mode which makes a huge difference. The F85 is slow compared to the F95. Ive owned both.
The performance of the new x5m is mind boggling.This thing will eat up majority of cars on the road as it is,but imagine a stage 2 car? can't fault the pre gen either tbh.Great vid joe

To me, I've always been a fan of the F15 BMW X5, and most certainly the F85 X5 M. I think it has aged very well, both inside and out. It still looks very modern, and it proves that you don't need the most technological cabin to have a great interior. I think the interior and exterior are modern enough to where it'll age very well. I also think it looks a lot better than the current one tbh. But one thing you can't deny is the power of both with that lethal 4.4L twin turbo V8 engine.

I took my Evolve mapped F85 X5M to the Nurburgring a few years back. Was hilarious fun. 👍
Having had an X5M the same as Chris’s but a 2017 model, and now in an X3M Comp I can tell you those pops and bangs in that X5M he has entertained me every day. On the way home from work I had one piece of road I loved every day. An amazing car snd I regret selling it. Though you need a test between the X3M Comp and the new X5M Comp, the X3M is faster for sure than both my old F10 M5 and the old X5M.
Hi Joe, Loved this video. I am in the same position. I have a g11 -760- 18 plate and looking for an x5. No idea what to go for: 50d, x5m . Is there a huge difference between 2016-18 x8 models? Also a 40d would do if nicely specced and properly tuned up. I ruled out g05 models for now. Your input will be appreciated . Thanks a lot .

great video guys, its better having the two cars to compare with two different people. I would chose the older version also as I drive a 50D, admittedly I love the noise of the older one as it sounds like it should.

Finally the video comparison review I was after. Great video, has helped me in thinking about should I upgrade my F85 to F95 and the answer now is stick with my 2018 F85. There is more theatre in the car. Yes it is slower, but not by much and its more practical and enjoyable to drive. Thank you Joe Achilles. Great video.
actually the code name is f15 and go5, even for the m variants. unless their happens to be a mis read on the code naming

dont let this bias video fool you. The F95 is way faster than the F85. The F95 was not in full sport mode which makes a huge difference. The F95 is a so much better truck its not even close.

Simple remap and would be right there
Well remap the G05 X5M comp and you can get it up to 800-850 hp on that alone. The F85 one taps out at around 700 hp on a remap alone.

Excellent. I wonder what the results would be if they were both mapped. Same hardware but the older one is lighter which may have played a part in the brake test.

I love the comment on the negative of negative camber. Is that a solution for tramlining though? I’ve noticed a lot of tramling with the x5 compared to other SUVs. could it be the tyre size?

X5M Comp is sublime. I recently traded my 4 month old RS6 Vorsprung for a Marina Bay Blue X5M Comp with Ultimate pack. No comparison between the Audi & the BMW. Just adore the X5MC.

You can thank your countries noise law for the quieter exhaust on the new X5M. It wasn't in place a few years ago. Plus the old X5M exhaust is no doubt worn out a bit. Also Joe, since you're older, you were a bit slow on applying the brakes for the braking test. But it was a great video and there is nothing wrong with the older F85. You do realize that the F85 has piped in intake and exhaust noise also. Many F85 reviews said that even with the rear air suspension, the vehicle rides to firm.

Love this video absolutely brilliant. You need Mat Watson to do a guest spot on it next that would be the one.
If there was a whole new engine or a revolutionary new design I would maybe get it, but there isn’t, so you are basically getting a similar car and engine at 1/3 or even 1/4 of the price. It’s one of the best USED performance SUV’s available considering it’s performance and value for money. It’s also a bit of a wolf in sheep’s clothing considering it does 0-60 in the same time as a same model year M3/M4 due to the x-drive vs RWD. I’ve had the exact same opinion comparing to the new X5M and this video just convinced me to keep mine and rather extend the warranty and tune the engine up, all at a fraction of the new price. Thanks guys.

my current dream car is a 2018 BMW X5M Comp, there's just something about the "wagon" style look that the new X5 no longer has. It's also sooooooo much cheaper and literally just as fast and powerful. The 2018 X5M might be the best X5 out there.

On a drive-by, the new X5M just sounds so much angrier/meaner than the old X5M. Good comparison. Though Joe, you were a bit asleep off the line a few times, but it didn't really matter since the new X5M has a lot more power. Sounds like Joe was also being nice to his friend by not saying anything bad about his F85.

The X5M and X5M comp have the same exact size wheels, exhaust etc. Difference is a competition mode which gives 17hp more due to a timing tune when in that mode. Oh, and 9k more to have the comp package. I passed and have the X5M and it moves quickly, very quickly.
wrong, wrong wrong. The comp has 21's up front and 22's in the rear. All high gloss black elements, black chrome tailpipes, M sport seats, Merino leather and seat belts with M stripes. You just couldnt afford the comp package, I understand.
